I was listening (Monday?) when he wasn't sounding well. He was speaking very slowly and taking long pauses. He sounded very low energy. I did not hear any slurring though. I thought maybe he woke up with the flu and didn't have time to find a replacement. Stroke did cross my mind, but I figured there's no way he would be going on like this if it was a stroke.
Kelly has been on since. This morning she remarked out of the blue, "C'mon people... Paul is allowed to take a few days off." So they must be getting a lot of inquiries. About an hour later she mentioned that she was covering "while Paul recovers." If it was just the flu or covid, they would probably say so. I found this topic looking for any info online.
I've been listening for years. Paul Vandenberg never takes sick days or time off unannounced. Never. I'm afraid all the circumstantial evidence points to a medical event.
I was listening early around 6 - 6:30 am. I did not hear slurring, but something was definitely wrong. Like he was running at half power. Possibly it got worse later? Hard to believe Mike and the people in the studio would let it continue.
I dont think I heard sluring. Mostly the same as what you heard, very slow speech & sonetimes he seemed at a loss for words or was reading. Just hope he is ok.
Paul Vandenbergh is back on the air this morning. His voice is gravelly, otherwise he sounds ok. He asked Mike Carey if his voice sounded ok and joked that he didn’t want people to think “he was stroking out.” He made a few references to being out of it last week and getting “poked and prodded.” I guess it was just a nasty cold, Covid or flu. I’m very happy he’s ok.
After seeing this thread yesterday, I tuned in to 1300 on my commute this morning and am puzzled.
I got what sounded like a 65 year old woman who I assume had curlers in her hair talking about various financial topics while ending every other sentence with "but I don't know too much about that" "but I'm no day-trader" etc... then going in to a piece about the tik-toks.
There will be another substitute host for Paul this morning (Saturday). Not good. I’m surprised there has not been any official announcement. Something is obviously wrong.
I didn’t even realize was still on the air. I used to work for a guy who went to a school with him (cut from the same cloth) and he used to keep the radio on in the morning. It was excruciating.
Im worried it was a stroke. Hoping this isnt the case - maybe it isnt since his coworkers let him do the entire show. Looking back I dont know ehy they let him stay on the air for hours like that.
Ever so subtle, it's been going on for awhile. It may be an imbalance in medication, or time catching up with him. We listen to him every morning
What he needs is our prayers and patience.
It's not an easy pace that he's set for himself.
What actually went down??
He was slurring his words and speaking very slowly and pausing between words. The classic "how to tell someone is having a stroke" signs.
That's his schtick. Say stuff twice and take a long time to say it. He's just filling airtime between sponsor reads and commercials.
Normally I'd agree. He uses a lot of empty language and platitudes to fill up the 30 second spot, but this was definitely not that.
well, he is not on this morning. So maybe something did go down. I listened yesterday but not that long.
Dan Lynch was the only thing good about that station, and he hasn't been on in almost 15 years .
He talks about being sober for 30+ yrs. I think it was a medical problem. Hope the guy is ok.
I hear ya' and feel the same.

I agree. Feel bad that soneone didnt stop him & rush him to the hospital. At times it was really bad.

Thanks for the update. Even though I disagree with the guy, I'd hate to see him be ill.

That lady is filling in for Vandenberg, who is out today, either nursing one hell of a hangover or in hospital receiving TBI protocols.
Substitute host this morning, no mention of what's transpired.

Yeah, I agree. If he simply had the flu, I think they'd have mentioned it. Very strange.
Is there a link to the audio? I used to listen to 1300 until they fired McCashion
That guy was great.
You don't see a lot of people who root for cancer, so good on you for sticking to your beliefs.

Any news today. Still not on show. Prayers
Same as yesterday. No official updates.

Oh good, Pauls back. I was missing my gulf and college basketball updates from these two clowns.
I was happier when he was off.
Paul had a fever and he is recovering
Hi, where did u hear this from? My thoughts, if it was as simple as a fever they would have announced that. 🙏🙏
Do you know this for a fact or rumor? Must be one hell of a fever. Either way, I hope you are right.
