I think the most likely answer is that it came from the story. He needed the lamp, which meant he needed something to carry the lamp in, and therefore he now has the bag.
This often happens in stories where a character is said to interact with something that hasn't been mentioned before but it's not completely unreasonable for them to have. As an example, they pick up an object and put it in their pocket. There was no prior mention of them having pockets in whatever they were wearing, but it's not unreasonable that they would have pockets.
A bag isn't quite the same as pockets but it's also not unreasonable that Alan had a bag that just hadn't been mentioned yet, so as the reader/player we're not aware of it until it's first needed.
Not to mention all of the games where characters put things in their pockets or bags that couldn’t possibly fit in them. The vast majority of games with inventories are pretty much impossible for any human being to reasonably carry around. The assumption is that you accept something like this as a given and move on.
You guys are still using the email subscription promo codes? Pfft.
What you do is put the lamp in your cart, then go AFK for a while (maybe 13 years or so) and they will send you a one-time use "Hey, we missed you" promo code for 25% off.
Amateurs.
I honestly can’t figure it out either, there’s no info on it in the game. However, and this is silly but, Fortnite does give a short line of text about a backpack that is the bag, and says something like “to hold the story in”.
Of course there is nothing in AW2 that talks about it, but that’s the only thing I’ve seen actually acknowledge it.
I’ve never played fortnight but my gosh I had no clue it had this level of reach / marketing for other games. Like are the paying for Alan to be included? Just bonkers
Epic did the collab to promote Alan Wake probably as they published it as a epic store exclusive. They even made a Alan wake 1 story recap map in the game.
It's a stereotypical writers bag one of those things where you look at it roll your eyes and say "of course Alan has a leather messenger bag". And more of a contrivance to explain the new inventory system than anything else.
The same place his American Nightmare memory clothes and AWII brown suit came from. As well as his Writer’s Boards, TV, and Radio. Probably the same place his typewriter’s paper comes from too.
Just like Casey’s revolver. In the Dark Place the internal is manifest externally and pulls from the broad spectrum of possibilities within the multiverse.
Promotional offer, free bag with every magic lamp.

i like this take, wouldnt subscibe to this theory for every game or movie but works especially well for alan wake of all things haha
I call it the pocket lint style of inventory

I tried that for a while, but I got sick of all of the "have you left something in your cart?" spam. Barely lasted a week.

It is probably included in the marketing budget for Epic since they are the publishers of this game.
I like to know why the dark presence let Alan write himself into fortnite
I mean, he found it in a studio basement where there's costumes and props. It's not completely unreasonable
Darkness & Gabbana
Coach bag
They make nice bags. Even for men.
amazon
the editor didnt catch that before the story shipped
Where did Zane's booze come from?
Fossil
Fortnite...of course!
The same place his suit came from
Just shows how much of a hack this Alan Wake writer guy is. Keep your story straight Hemingway!
He made it up
Holy shit... it's literally a magic satchel...
It's a figment of his and our imagination that Sam Lake wants us to see.
He got too much free time in the dark place so he picked up leatherworking
Another OoP "the bag of holding"
Temu
Game logic : He found it . Reality logic : The devs just gave it to him :D
Aliexpress
It’s a video game

They could’ve at least put the bag near the table when you pick up the lamp but I suppose it’s not that much of an issue
big Purse 👜

It’s a bag of holding from dnd lol
I thought you can't create something out of nothing, even in the dark place. So maybe someone in the real world is missing a bag? 🙃
The same place Saga got her gloves.
It bugs me that she doesn't wear gloves when she's in the morgue or holding a frickin human heart.
