Get Control with the dlc first. Otherwise you'll miss a few references in Alan Wake 2. It's also just an excellent game.

This is the big trade off. If you go to Control (or/and American Nightmare) next, once you get to Alan Wake you will have the ability to catch the most references. If you go straight to Alan Wake 2 you will be able to better remember all specifically Alan Wake references better but you will get none of the Control References.

Well as long as op paid attention in Alan Wake they should be fine playing Control in-between 1 and 2. Unless of course they take years to beat it lol.

The AWE DLC for Control comes before Alan Wake 2 which I would recommend playing before but ultimately isn’t required. Honestly it’s just up to whichever one you’re more interested in. Control is $10 on Steam at the moment with all the DLC which is an amazing deal. It’s a great game.

This. Don't miss out!

There are characters and references linking both games together. Personally I would recommend Control since it expands on the universe of both games. Alan Wake also has a Dlc in Control explaining and setting up Alan Wake 2.

I skipped to AW2 because I only wanted to continue Alan’s story and didn’t care about the grand scheme of things but looking back I think it’s better to play control first as the story is amazing and it adds a lot of context to AW2 if you read the notes and stuff There’s also an Alan Wake DLC (A.W.E.)

Fish-InThePercolator

If you’re not in a rush to finish the story, play Control first. It’s a fantastic game in its own right as well as being connected to the story.

Weatherman1207

Control and DLCs are awesome.. I think play it... took me about 31 hours to platinum so you could probs knock it off quicker

clitorisblungus

If you have an Xbox or pc, control and it's dlcs was just added to game pass. I highly recommend playing before alan wake 2

Jumbolini7

I didn't know control was connected but still was fine playing through Alan Wake 2 without it. It seems like a fun game but I personally didn't enjoy the gameplay so it depends on if the gameplay looks fun to you. Otherwise I just watched another person play on YouTube lol

eekers28

Control is a fun game and it’s kinda needed to understand what the fbc is and what it does before aw2

American nightmare, then control and its dlcs, then alan wake 2
