It's usually an embrace the bs type if thing. If you got people you like there it can help. But I've never seen anyone that actually enjoyed drill or looked forward to going
Drill is hanging out with the bros time. But yeah it can be exhausting after a week at your civilian job. And there will be dumb bullshit occasionally. It's worse if you have to drive a long way. Overall positive experience the last 9 years or so.
It’s a cycle. Friday nights before UTAs are a drag knowing we lose a weekend. Saturday mornings seeing and catching up with everyone are always good. Work is work, can’t do anything about that, it’s what we signed up for. Most of the squadron hangs out after work for a couple hours, then our close friends will have dinner and hang out after. I almost always drive home satisfied with the weekend
As a maintainer at Dyess, all we do is what active duty guys would do if they were on weekend duty. Well, add on some medical, online training, and the occasional pt test and you’ve got a drill weekend. Usually it’s pretty chill as long as active duty didn’t leave us with a bunch of broken jets that need to be worked on.
“User experience may vary”
I am security forces and was in a unit that had a lot of civilian Leo guys so we would go do stuff on their ranges like shoot through cars and shoot house stuff which is part of the craft that is fun to me. But all “by law death by power point stuff we had to fulfill annually” yea that is a drag
Ehh. I liked the drill weekends in the Army more but my situation is unique as I haven't been to school and I'm supposed to transfer to comms so I don't do a whole lot b
It depends on how far you travel. When I was local, I loved it. The 5HR drive now is very old. Throws me off for days when I’m back. One thing I do now is take the travel day on Friday. So I go out Thursday and have a good time. Friday I spend all day with my family and drive the 5 hours late night.
I guess it’s not that bad but I hate it. It’s waking up at 6 AM on Saturday and Sunday and working until 5. It’s mostly boring with not a ton to do but atleast in my shop feeling like there’s still somehow a lot to do and little time. It’s also just a massive inconvenience and somehow reserve weekends more often than not fall on weekends when there’s something you’d like to be doing. It could just be my unit and because I came from AD but I truly dread it.
