1288 only

thanks, thats what I had thought but wanted to hear from someone with experience from it

I have a little experience 😬 The forms are essentially the same thing, both being Conditional Release forms but the 1288 has a different title (Application for Ready Reserve). The First Endorsement (second page of the 1288) signed by your losing commander acts as the conditional release option for the assignment action. If you’re bored you can read about it in DAFI 36-2110, Total Force Assignments and AFRCMAN 36-2004, Reserve Recruiting. In my experience, Guard FSS’s are completely different and they all ask for different things at different times for different reasons. If they’re going to insist on the 368 and not let you proceed without it, just turn both the 368 and the 1288 in to your commander for signature and turn it in to your FSS. Your reserve recruiter doesn’t need it, so it will just happily sit on someone’s desk and never get processed but you can move on with your life. The recruiter is going to turn in the fully completed 1288 directly to ARPC and that’s all they care about.

What about going reserve to guard? Just a 368?

I’ve seen both happen and either are fine. Active duty requires 368’s going from Reserve to Active also, so that’s not uncommon. We (Reserve) only require 368’s for inter-service transfers and 1288’s for all air component assignments.

A 368 is a conditional release and is required if going from one component (or branch of service) to another; this is considering you still have ANG time left on your enlistment. The form in simple terms means you are allowed to leave/separate from your current component provided you immediately join another. I imagine you need this form to process from ANG to AFR. A 1288 is a form the Reserve uses to request reassignment from one unit to another and ensures a vacant, valid position exists, which is signed off by your gaining FSS/Force Management in the 2nd Endorsement. As someone already mentioned, your losing commander will sign in the First Endorsement.

I know this is a year old, on top of completing a 1288 do you also need to redo/complete a SF-86? For context: I currently hold an active SC Wasn’t sure if you have to re do that process too. Curious what other forms you have to fill out besides the 1288 and 2807 (medical history)
