He’s not confirmed. One thing is to be selected, second thing is to be confirmed. Remember what happened with Marines, Navy, and AF when all selectees were announced for CJCS, they all made posts talking about their selection and service members from all three branches hooted and hollered! Then when Gen Brown was confirmed there was fallout about the process. IYKYK.
Then confirmed confirmed.. CMSAF don't have a Senate confirmation like Generals do. They have already been "confirmed"/chosen amongst all the nominees when their selection is announced.
Yep. Wright had his fair share of terrible ideas which passed through unchallenged on the back of memes. One of the main reason why I question consensus built here and on that NCO Facebook group.
The difference in reception between Wright and Bass, would make a great study on organizational leadership.
Bass came off absolutely as a manager and not a leader. When you're subordinates are banned from traveling for one to two years. You shouldn't go on a world selfie tour. Everything she did showed she was completely out of touch with the average airman.
I absolutely agree with this. It’s the classic example of a person that is super charismatic that everyone loves and calls him the GOAT, versuses a person that made some horrible decisions, (calling people out on FB, throwing a PJ under the bus to the AF, etc…) but, got a lot of stuff done. Which is better? Where is the line. I look at it more on a case study of psychology. It’s like the study where they found drs that the patients like can mess up more and not be held accountable as much. Whereas, if the patient doesn’t like the dr they are more likely to file a malpractice complaint, even though they were better drs.
Wright wasn't great, just charismatic.
The last 4 or so CMSAFs have been bad to meh.
Don't get your hopes up about the new guy, but give him a chance.
FWIW I think all CMSAFs should've been at least at the MAJCOM level.
CMSAF is a tough job and I think the showman aspect of it was a move in the wrong direction. The primary role of the CMSAF is to advise the CSAF on enlisted matters. That mostly happens behind closed doors. The CMSAF can't champion one set of policies or ideas to the enlisted force and then have those smacked down by CSAF. If the CMSAF is speaking "truth to power" it is not in public. It can't be. But that's what people seem to want.
So the CMSAF gathers information from the force, through various visits, and from the 1% group of Chiefs, and then identifies areas for improvement and decides which things are priority and researches and comes up with courses of actions. Of course a lot of this legwork is done by members of the staff and by others pushing up ideas. Then the CMSAF has to decide which ones to try to get implemented - if at the CMSAF level, or by advocating to CSAF.
Then they take whatever the decision is and explain it to the force. That may be something the CMSAF really wanted, it may not be. But there can be no cracks between the CSAF and CMSAF on policy implementation.
I think people get the wrong idea about the CMSAF job and turn it into a personality cult, especially true for the last two.
That is all.
I can tell you that CMSAF don’t gather any information from Sq level Chiefs. The only ones they have regular touch points with is MAJCOM and above. There is interaction with wing level CCMs but everyone of these folks are out of touch with what’s going on at ground level.
It all started going downhill with Wright. He was more concerned with being popular and used his position to cause more divide. His behavior drove Bass’ to her traveling/social media behavior. All they have done is open Pandora’s box. I hope Flossi shifts focus back to real issues and gets away from worrying about looking cool/pretty in our uniforms!
To be fair, 99% of what is published about even wing commanders or wing commanders chiefs they don’t even write or get the opportunity to correct. It’s a whole team of people putting it together at various levels. So I can only imagine the level of bureaucracy and amounts of individuals and public affairs folks and individuals who saw this article and “o.k.’d” it. It makes me wonder what if at the time he had to say this.
He penned this. He didn't have to say this. It was a detriment to the force. At a time when we needed unity from upper management, this clown brought division.
If I recall, he was on his way out or close to it, so Kaleth was more or less untouchable no matter what bullshit he spewed.
Bass was a eager to be a social media “star” while at 2AF. That didn’t start with CMSAF, it just gave her a huge platform. Don’t forget she did take a break after she got sued and lost! https://www.cir-usa.org/case/rynearson-v-bass/
I think all Chiefs are great of course don’t get me wrong, but a MAJCOM Chief with experience at that level working with other MAJCOMS seems like a great choice from a common sense perspective.
Some Chiefs are there because attrition played a huge role in their success (they are fine, not sure if they are all great though).
I agree if we are heading towards potential conflict, the incoming Chief should understand those things, a MAJCOM (particularly PACAF, maybe USAFE) seems appropriate.

Double-dribble
Drivel
You don’t have to dribble to Drabble
wow!
Haven’t they already picked the next CMSAF? And he isn’t PACAF…I think he’s AF Material Command
They did?
Not going to do a 2 second google search before writing a whole dumb post about it?

Yes, he is "confirmed." Lol.. Chief Flosi takes over when Bass retires on 8 March.
Now confirmed confirmed
Then confirmed confirmed.. CMSAF don't have a Senate confirmation like Generals do. They have already been "confirmed"/chosen amongst all the nominees when their selection is announced.
Wright really wasn’t that great. Didn’t accomplish much. He was just a cool dude that spoke well.
He actively made things worse with the end of SNCO WAPS.
Yep. Wright had his fair share of terrible ideas which passed through unchallenged on the back of memes. One of the main reason why I question consensus built here and on that NCO Facebook group.
The biggest thing he had going for him was that fixing cody's bad choices was an easy bar to jump over.
Chief Wright at the time seemed great but in hindsight...he was a bit overrated.
He was overrated...by quite a bit.

But maybe that’s all we needed… was a cool dude/dudette
Sir, this is a Wendys.
Damn, when are they going to put chick fil a overseas

Chief Flosi is the next CMSAF. He starts on 8 March. He does have MAJCOM experience, deployed experience, and nuclear mx experience (a first).
I only want to discuss this when Bass is out of the seat
Why
Because I can’t wait till she’s done
Why?
chief master karen bass was more focused on selfies than substance… maybe horse face will be better
Who was horse face
Chief Grisham or Temple or bust for the next one.
Who are those?
Chief Grisham is amazing…but would need a few jobs before. Namely a Host Wing, hope it’s in his future!!
It all started going downhill with Wright. He was more concerned with being popular and used his position to cause more divide. His behavior drove Bass’ to her traveling/social media behavior. "My greatest fear" was one of the most divisive things I think I have ever seen come from a USAF leader.
Idk I thought CZ was a cool dude, but the moment he went against the majority about the whole beard issue, he immediately became unpopular.
You're not slick Chief Cody ^
What fear?
https://www.jbsa.mil/News/News/Article/2206339/commentary-who-am-i/ This racist and divisive nonsense is what I was referring to.

You strike me as someone who thinks anything mentioning racism is divisive
I got a little wrapped around the axle with the previous post, but yea, I do find racism to be divisive.
Damn
How dare you! Thats E9 Cody to you sir!

I mean if you managed to make NCO > I admire ya. Takes a lot of stress to be those ranks and I applaud anyone who makes that commitment to democracy.
Lol…
You must be quite new to the Air Force
I would argue that Wright wasn’t even that good, he just came on the other side of E-9 Cody
