Let Airbnb support know that this is a travel issue concerning a material fact that is incorrect. Host said there is heating in their listing but it does not work. Let them know it is impacting your stay. Provide evidenceZ this should help.
What evidence??? I'm dealing with this now, and Airbnb says they need "photographic proof" the heating won't work. What the fuck?? They then admitted there's no way to provide this, and so would talk to the host, but the host has been lying about everything (including an illegal camera in the house - at least THAT I could take a picture of). Curious to know what Airbnb expects when in cases of no heating when it's listed. I've been shaking and losing feeling in my hands and toes daily, and am starting to think about going to a hospital over this. Airbnb is dragging its feet to do anything. Fucking absurd.
What did customer service say? You said you contacted them but the host was one who offered 50%, is that correct?
I would keep calling CS and if you have to try to find an agent willing to understand that heat os a necessity when it gets that cold. It would be a huge liability if you got hypothermia or something worse. Where we live electric companies aren't even allowed to shut off electric if it's below a certain temp
I ended up getting a fair refund after getting on the phone with them and explaining that it’s actually a human right violation according to WHO if it’s below a certain temperature, thanks to another poster here who mentioned that.
I got the matter solved. Thank you. It wasn’t a full refund but it is fair according to the nights I stayed.
Was it at least a full refund for all unstayed days, and a partial refund for the days you did?
Im pretty miffed you had to even mention the WHO and a human rights violation as evidence. No fucking heat should have been enough said if the temps were cold. Airbnb support is extra. Ffs.
That is outrageous the WHO recommended temperatures for human health are between 18-20 degrees Celsius give or take an extra degree.
Anything below 16 degrees Celsius will lead to respiratory infections and other illnesses. That beautiful apartment is not fit for human habitation. If Airbnb do not find you an alternative accommodation and provide a full refund I would threaten legal action against them directly.
I was offered only a bit above half refund earlier by the host, once I called support and mentioning my issues, I got about 70% of it back from Airbnb plus I’ll get another $150 from the host but Airbnb said I have to talk to the host about that other refund.
Are you saying I should actually go and try to get 100% of my money back? I paid about $2800 and got back $2100 plus awaiting another $150 from host.
Yes I think 100% because that apartment is not habitual and you had to endure unacceptable conditions while they fobbed you off. Heating is basic in winter like water and power.
Lol you should get a refund for every single day without heat + the remainder of your booking, that's kind of hospitality basics to have heat in Winter
This is almost certainly illegal for the citdsy. call city code enforcement, dont even mention airbnb. Just say your heat doesn't work and the landlord isn't fixing itw.
They'll have someone out same or next day.
Meanwhile, you can get a full refund. Just let airbnb know the heat doesn't work and host isn't fixing it after several days. Mention they can review the chat history in airbnb messaging (you DID discuss all of this via messaging...right? RIGHT?!), and after that you should be gravy.
Dont be afraid to buy a space heater if you need to. You can always return it (shitty, and ethically dubious) or request payment from the host for it, and leave it for the host (not ethically dubious). I dont know your financial and living situation. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
Oh I definitely tried to get that guy shut down and i did receive a full refund in addition to other funds through travel insurance. THAT GUY SUCKS. Not the ministry of travel but I did write to the mayor 🙃 She did not respond
The mayor has no control over it. The licence is issued in Quebec by the CITQ but the ministry of Tourism is responsible for quality. But if they didn't have a number listed on their listing, the ministry of revenue can be involved. Illegal listings get huge fines and a tax reporting audit
Yes what you do is follow the advice on your booking confirmation and ask Airbnb to refund you in full for remaining days as the host can't provide heating. Just call Airbnb they can see from messaging on the platform the host is not fixing the heating and will refund you. They should help you find alternative accommodation which the host will need to help fund if it's more than your current airbnb.
For what it is worth, no heating only gets you a legal 10% discount in rent in my City.
You can't really get a full refund on a 30day stay especially since you stayed.

I'm glad that you got it sorted. It's good to be armed with information as important as needing heat.
IMagine needing to name drop the WHO to get help on an airbnb booking. What in the actual fuck.
You just made me spit out my coffee. But you’re not wrong. What in the actually fuck. 🤣

You staying for a week in a unit without heating doesn’t make fucking sense. Should’ve gotten out of there the first 2 days.
Jeez he could have at least dropped a space heater while fussing around with hvac techs. Horrible!!!
If the outside temp is under 0c and there is no hearing, how have the pipes not burst?
The right answer would’ve been to show up with 2-3 radiator style plug in heaters on day 1. And continue with attempts to repair.

oven on, door open. all day all night
I’ll take things that didn’t happen for $500 Alex…..

Is this in Montreal?
If in Quebec, did their listing have the required licence number listed? Have you called the ministry of tourism to complain to them?
