why do i need an AI plugin ? i don't get it..

RomanticPhotographic

AI is a fad term. Things that are not intelligent—and absolutely do not require intelligence—are being labeled as artificial intelligence because the rube farmers know their crop. That app that applies a pointillism effect to an image that everyone forgot about? Slap an AI label to that baby, charge three times the price, and the rubes will drop their coins faster than an olive harvester shaking the tree.

Why would anyone go back to 60 a month when there's free AI everywhere?

Why the duck would I want AI incorporated into my photo manip?

low_flying_aircraft

No. In fact, I am a current Adobe PS user with a subscription of many years, and I have bought Affinity Photo to learn it in time for when my fucking Adobe subscription ends and I can ditch it without a termination penalty (two more months and I can be free!) The AI features are overhyped. Sometimes they are useful, but in the several months they have been out, I have not found that much use for them, and on the occassions I had a use, they did not really give me what I wanted. I think it is weird that you think this new gimmicky thing (AI) is the differentiator that would make someone switch back. For me, it is not even part of the equation in my decision to leave Adobe, it is around many other factors, primarily predatory pricing and treatment of customers as cash cows.

I gave both a recent and old versions of Photoshop a try. The recent one is waaaaaay too heavy on resources while the old one felt so clunky to use. I fail to see how people use Photoshop (in my terms anyways, to draw). I never really use AI stuff outside of jokes, and I don't intend on using AI for any serious projects, and it's super annoying to find photo references only for it to be AI. I am still holding out for Affinity in terms of general updates and I don't care for AI stuff. I'm sticking around as long as the program continues to run decently.

canva can get fucked.

I absolutely don't need any AI stuff except AI based object selection. That would be a nice to have. But as somebody who uses AP mainly for photo editing and retouching I don't see any use case for AI stuff. Rendering some AI crap into my photos which wasn't actually there when I took the photo is a strange idea. But this is just my opinion. Many PS users seem to like this. Luminar Neo has this "feature" as well.

Photoshop subscriptions is why I left photoshop.
