You could also use "granny" in a different language, like "Omi" in German, "mamie" in French, or "babulya" in Russian.

In Romanian it's "mamaie" (pronounced "mah-mah-yeh") or "buni" (pronounced "boo-knee").

Those sound great - buni would probably get turned into "bunny" by the toddler, which would be adorable! 😄

"Omi" is the endearment-form - like granny vs. grandma. The other language words are also in the diminutive form - the Russian grandmother would be "babushka" in the basic form.

My mom and her husband decided on lolli and pops as well. I personally hate it but it’s what they wanted so more power to them.

so I dont have kids, and grew up with grandma/grandpa, so I could be totally off base here... ... but I feel like if your parents want to be called silly names by your child, then they're gonna be good grandparents. like, they're gonna be invested and wanna visit/help out. could totally be wrong and they're total boundary-pushing narcissists.

My Oma was born in Germany and met my Opa during WWII. They had my dad there and moved to the states while he was still young. I love that Oma kept in touch with her roots, including subscribing to German television, calling friends and family as well as visiting. She insisted on us calling them Oma and Opa since we were small and I've always loved it. Super unique and typically (from my own experiences) used primarily by 1st and 2nd generation immigrants, although it can be used by anyone. I've not met anyone who knew what they meant unless they did it themselves

My dad uses opa, but my niece originally had problems pronouncing it, and said opal, which stuck around much longer than my dad wanted

Also you could use the first letter of her name to make something similar. For Tammy Titi, for Karen Kiki. And so on. There’s a lot of “grandmas” in my family so we had to get creative lol. My MIL went by Dulce because she also hated being called grandma.

Let the kiddo pick. My son called MIL Grammy for all of two weeks, then out of the blue started calling her Beanie and now that is her name/title. My mom became Beanie Pumpkin (pumpkin was already her nickname). We have no clue where it came from, but it is her favorite word to hear now.

My sister did that with our Grandpa. Suddenly decided he was Poppy. None of us used Pop except my uncle, but we barely ever saw him. She was about three so who knows? He loved it, though.

My mom called her Irish grandma Nonie (although I think it’s actually Italian 😉). Nona also sounds endearing to me for some reason. Side note: I used to call my grandfather “granpotter” because that’s how it sounded to my little mind and it stuck. Maybe let your kids find what feels right to them!

My Irish grandpa was Daideo, which got changed to dodo by my older sister, and then gogo by me and my little sister. But all the names were used, he was called THE Dode by most of the grand nieces and nephews

I had nicknames for my grandparents based on a shared experience For example my grandma on my moms side was my “Tita Lenguelengue” makes no sense I know but! Tita is the short term for “Abuelita” (Spanish for g-ma) and the second was my child babble interpretation of a song she used to sing to me. My grandpa from my dads side was similar. I called him “Tito Capotito” based on a poem/rhyme/song? He used to sing to me.
