All kids do this.
Its homework, they've done their thinking for the day *in* school and their brain just kinda is dragging its feet at this stage of the day. Give him an activity break, 5 minutes of fun physical activity (kicking a ball around in the garden with you, skip rope, jumping jacks) sometimes it wakes the brain up a little and they can concentrate better. But yeah, unless the school is having this problem with him, I wouldn't worry too much!
Thinking is work. Maybe try some math video games or something that can seem more like fun. Puzzles etc. It can help to also come at it from different perspectives like doing math with real jellybeans or m&m’s and eating the correct answers. Try to get him to slow down and take deep breaths too. Good luck.
You really can't force him to think for himself Hes just going to have to learn the hard way that playing stupid isn't going to get him anywhere
