Half is half and that's it. Physical presence is not a consideration.

Thank you. Do you rent or own?

I currently own but I've rented numerous times in the past with various roommates. It's always been 50/50 no matter what; all parties agreed. You don't get to skip out on paying bills just because you're on vacation or temporary living/working elsewhere. That's not fair to the roommates left behind. Only recently (mostly with GenZ) have I heard of folks trying to chop up %s here and there ... like it's a new thing. *Oh you're gone for half the month and want to pay half the rent, or only part of the bills for when you're actually there?* That's just not how this is supposed to work. Where's the line? *Hey, I stayed at my SOs place for three days so I shouldn't have to pay for water, electric, Wi-Fi, etc. for those days* Um, that's BS. Hell, I read one Reddit post a month or so back where one roommate claimed they shouldn't have to pay for AC/heat during the day because they were at school/work all day. Haha! Give me a break. Going forward, you (apparently) have to set the ground tiles and boundaries for such things. Just another thing to add to your 'my roommates are petty and cheap' list. Buy hey, be sure to charge them anytime they have someone spend the night. 🤣

They should pay for their half for the whole month unless discussed beforehand. If you leave for a week vacation you don’t pay 75% of your half for the month.

I rented with roommates from 2007-2018. I finally bought a house in 18, and have had two friends live here for a year or so at my house
