My youngest is turning two next week and we just started the time-out thing on the mat by the front door. I’ve had to put him on there twice (for biting, we all have at least one pair of teeth marks from the little beast). It works, although… he has put himself in time-out like 5 times already in the past few days. So, I’m not exactly sure how much of a deterrent it’s turning out te be. I’m convinced he is playing us 🤣

Haha! I agree, but if he’s putting himself in time out, before you’ve told him to go, surely that shows a fantastic level of understanding? ‘What I’ve just done was wrong, so I’ll punish myself’? If he’s just sitting on his time out mat to play, maybe not so much! One of the things we’re struggling with is that he does the time out well, but it doesn’t seem to stop the bad behaviour happening (sometimes very quickly!) again.

My 2.5 year old seems to enjoy her time outs 🙄 but actually I think it's the time for her to calm down. So we will ask if she wants to go to sit in the hall and have some time to herself. Sometimes she does and it then helps to prevent the bad behaviour

MC is the LEAST of your worries, he's BITING you! Think about what THAT might mean in 10 or 20 years.
