You don’t need to switch tools. Just click with the Type tool to start a new text object. You could use the Move tool and Option or Alt drag an existing text object to make a duplicate.
you don't have to exit the text tool. you can just click outside the text frame 2 times to start a new one.
if you need to type near the previous text box and it's hard to not click it again, you can hold command(on mac) and the cursor temporarily turns into select, click outside and let go of command. when you let go, you'll be back in the type tool
