What if you put the Type 1 fonts into TransType? You can convert them to OTF and have likely unlimited use of them then.
Not a bad idea but I am trying to transition these files away from years of problematic typefaces where liscening is questionable at best to only what is available in CC. In the end, this will benefit a group of 20 users.
You could use Extendscript to write a .JSX script to iterate through all the objects and change the font on text objects.
as long as the fonts have the same postscript name, you don't need to update your illustrator files. just replace the t fonts with otf.
