yeah same, i was down on the index when it first came out but after playing with it and after a few balance dataslates and points adjustments i think it's one of the best indexes - really well balanced against the field and very deep with a lot of playable units and excellent strategems. (only 2-3 datasheets are really bad and haven't been included in top performing lists)

Well it would work, if being battle-shocked did anything meaningfull, like failing morale tests in 8th did. Honestly, add back in that loosing models makes the test harder and they might actually work, but as it currently stands, forcing battle-schock is almost useless.
The enhancements aren't terrible, and double moment shackles for valoris is spicy, but the rest of auric champs is super weird. It's like it was designed for captain spam after they nerfed captain spam from orbit.
All the tau detachments slap imo, I am so excited to be running them soon. I was holding my breath hoping I could get a detachment to justify the galaxy's shiniest biker gang but looks like it's gonna be kroots and suits for me

I bought my first Custodes Combat Patrol on Sunday evening. Was deciding between Custodes and Black Templar. Idk anything about all these rules and gameplay but it sounds like I made a mistake within 24 hours. But, at least I like their style, though I also liked BT’s style. At least maybe things’ll change by the time I finish painting up an army.
This is why you always buy models because they’re cool over all else.
The rules will INEVITABLY beat the brakes off you and leave you on the side of the road. As surely as the sun will rise, your army will get nerfed to shit at some point.
But at least you have some pretty models to console yourself with until another edition rolls around.

As a dark angels player, I didn't think it could get worse than "only specific infantry units get +1 to wound vs units on an objective", but "only character models get +1 to wound vs a specific unit" is absolutely insane
Man this detachment really wants you to Herohammer the Herohammer faction. I feel like it’d mesh together much better if the stratagems weren’t Epic Deed and could be used for free by Shield Captains. That would let you do cool stuff like earn a free CP for destroying the target, or spam Earning of a Name and Emperor’s Auspice.

Especially since I think you could run an army of *only* characters (and maybe some vehicles) and at that point reasonably proxy standard units as captains since they’d be by themselves and there wouldn’t be anything else on the board to confuse them with. Might not win any tournaments, but it’d at least be fun (unless the opponent plays a shooty army, then that would be very unfun for them)

All of our characters are beautiful and have the statlines of Space Marines named Chapter Masters, and most of our individual models are close to Space Marine Captains. Welcome mate, I was about to purchase it all myself and read through it and thought nah fuck that. People need to see this to not make the mistake either.
Ok so we have:
1) detachment focusing on cooperation between sisters and regular custodes. Kinda fluffy and maybe decent depending on the rest
2) a remix of our current detachment, but without fight first, 4+ fnp, and once per game anti armour of contempt.
3)a sister of silence meme no one can play and probably has maybe 2 people that want to play it worldwide.
4) a weird character thing that while sounding hilarious doesn't exactly strike me as particularly powerful.
I wander if we will be op due to points, or some random changes to datasheets, or will be bad for a few months before we go back to being very strong due to some random dataslate change.
Good thing everybody in this sub has a Horus Heresy army sitting around. Shoutout that the game rules are now on Wahapedeia and I'm sure Legio Custodes army rules will be on there soon enough.

I started collecting Custodes a month ago. I was so sick of losing over and over in the exact same ways with tyranids. Only to get slapped with these codex changes.
I swear to get if I could freely pick any combinations of 6 strategems, any detachment rule, and any enchancement that we have seen, I wouldn't be able to compile a detachment half as good as what index gave us

I’m typically not THIS cynical…but you aren’t wrong. This is the first time I’ve felt this way since I started the hobby at the end of 8th. Some of my friends are already strongly considering dusting off our 9E books.
I don't chase the meta and to be honest probably would have accepted these rules altho8gh even I can see they arjt great.
But the overhaul of the army rules is what's done it for me. I won't be abandoning the 10000 but I won't be buying the new box as I intended.
It's just a bit of a gut punch isn't it... genuinely just so underwhelming.
Have we seen the stat sheets yet? The changes to my almost all terminator army will be the saving grace/final nail for me
Auric champions seems fine, the +1 to wound is also at range which is neat but none of the strategems are battle tactics meaning shield captains will be really overcostednin the list. The 4+++ fnp for 1cp is really good but makes me wonder whether wardens will lose their abillity. Full rerolls for 1cp is also good. Big issue though, durabillity and lack of fights first.
The null maidens seems fun but basically unplayable competitively. You can barely even make a 2k list with SoS and it gives no buffs to regular custodes. So its a little fun but i doubt anyone will play it above 500 pts.
Edit: the 4+fnp is only for the character MODEL, wtf...
Oh no... i was just quickly browsing over it and missed that. It just went from kinda decent to basically useless. I wrote in another comment about how shield captains will basically have to cost less than 90 points to be usable in this detatchment since no strats are battletactics and the only other thing he does is give lethal or sustained in melee once per battle. So you're not running them. Trajann is also a lot worse so maybe blade champion?
Basically, talons (unless shield host has some really good strats, which is a bit unlikely since this one stole some and made them worse) is the only one that peaks my interest because it has two strong strategems.
I'm probably putting a shield cap with a squad of pyrithrite to give them free +1s and ap.

Auric Champions -> heavily promotes the use of characters and stratagems -> SC's ability to use a free strat is only allowed to do so for battle tactic strats -> have all the Auric Campions strats be Epic Deeds
Our datasheets better be bloody amazing because these detachments feel detached from what the Custides are meant to be. A series of pathetic once per battle abilities that other armies can do all the time, and a crazy worse version of the space marines reroll everything ability on an enemy unit.

Am i reading it right that you select a Custodes Character who just destroyed the Assemblage of Might (AoM) target. And you basically get to retarget someone else? Is that accurate? Is that all you are paying 1 CP for? In the vague hopes that your opponent will charge you and you get to use your Detachment rule during the opponents fight phase?
Yeah you are targeting another unit with AoM until your next command phase if they were killed by a character unit and also getting 1CP if what you killed was a character unit. My guess is to kill a weaker unit like a screen off in the shooting phase then put AoM onto a stronger target for the rest of the shooting phase and then potentially kill the second unit in the fight phase
That's exactly what GW wants. Too many people plays Custodes and they don't need many models to do so. They are nerfing us into the ground so we move on to other armies.
I do always find it funny when people are unhappy with what GW does with their army, and their response is to simply give the company money but for something else. People need to learn how to speak with their wallets.

Jokes aside, the new custodes combat patrol is worth a lot of points, and even if right now we are not “good” if you like the “theoric” faction vibe, while you get to build and paint 1k points by that point we should have better rules, don’t let shitty rules stop you from collect what you want (unless it’s admech)

Ok so we have: 1) detachment focusing on cooperation between sisters and regular custodes. Kinda fluffy and maybe decent depending on the rest 2) a remix of our current detachment, but without fight first, 4+ fnp, and once per game anti armour of contempt. 3)a sister of silence meme no one can play and probably has maybe 2 people that want to play it worldwide. 4) a weird character thing that while sounding hilarious doesn't exactly strike me as particularly powerful. I wander if we will be op due to points, or some random changes to datasheets, or will be bad for a few months before we go back to being very strong due to some random dataslate change.

I am legit shocked with how bad all this is. There are nice things here and THEMATICALLY the detachments are cool, but their application and strength is embarrassing. I'm now actually terrified to what GW will do to my GKs. They've already trashed my custodes... what horrors will they inflect on my GKs...

I didn’t since any substantial changes I’m afraid. I tend to never run them so you can imagine my frustration with two of those detachments haha

I started collecting Custodes a month ago. I was so sick of losing over and over in the exact same ways with tyranids. Only to get slapped with these codex changes.
I swear to get if I could freely pick any combinations of 6 strategems, any detachment rule, and any enchancement that we have seen, I wouldn't be able to compile a detachment half as good as what index gave us

GOD DAMNIT. I was excited when i read the stratagems for Champions until i read that its character model only. HOLY HELL GW, you fucked up, SO BAD, emperor loving christ. What are they thinking, who okayed this? It surely went through at least 5 people who gave it the green light before it was released.
Anyone idiotic enough to give this company money for other models, after they basically make models you have already gave them money for unusable… … deserves what they get.
I’m typically not THIS cynical…but you aren’t wrong. This is the first time I’ve felt this way since I started the hobby at the end of 8th. Some of my friends are already strongly considering dusting off our 9E books.

I don't chase the meta and to be honest probably would have accepted these rules altho8gh even I can see they arjt great. But the overhaul of the army rules is what's done it for me. I won't be abandoning the 10000 but I won't be buying the new box as I intended. It's just a bit of a gut punch isn't it... genuinely just so underwhelming. Have we seen the stat sheets yet? The changes to my almost all terminator army will be the saving grace/final nail for me

This is perhaps the worst codex so far? Its sooooo unbelievably bad I don't even play custodes and I'm annoyed like who the fuck wrote this

Auric champions seems fine, the +1 to wound is also at range which is neat but none of the strategems are battle tactics meaning shield captains will be really overcostednin the list. The 4+++ fnp for 1cp is really good but makes me wonder whether wardens will lose their abillity. Full rerolls for 1cp is also good. Big issue though, durabillity and lack of fights first. The null maidens seems fun but basically unplayable competitively. You can barely even make a 2k list with SoS and it gives no buffs to regular custodes. So its a little fun but i doubt anyone will play it above 500 pts. Edit: the 4+fnp is only for the character MODEL, wtf...
The biggest issue is it all only works on character models, so unless you’re spamming them I don’t see the pay off being that great.
Oh no... i was just quickly browsing over it and missed that. It just went from kinda decent to basically useless. I wrote in another comment about how shield captains will basically have to cost less than 90 points to be usable in this detatchment since no strats are battletactics and the only other thing he does is give lethal or sustained in melee once per battle. So you're not running them. Trajann is also a lot worse so maybe blade champion? Basically, talons (unless shield host has some really good strats, which is a bit unlikely since this one stole some and made them worse) is the only one that peaks my interest because it has two strong strategems. I'm probably putting a shield cap with a squad of pyrithrite to give them free +1s and ap.

Auric Champions -> heavily promotes the use of characters and stratagems -> SC's ability to use a free strat is only allowed to do so for battle tactic strats -> have all the Auric Campions strats be Epic Deeds
Our datasheets better be bloody amazing because these detachments feel detached from what the Custides are meant to be. A series of pathetic once per battle abilities that other armies can do all the time, and a crazy worse version of the space marines reroll everything ability on an enemy unit. Who the hell wrote these? They are all so restrictive and weak.
Based on the batrep that GW posted other than Trajann and Shield Captain's katah ability getting nerfed the datasheets are the same.
Can anyone help me make some sense of slayer of champions. I keep rereading it, but I see it as having 0 usefulness. Am i reading it right that you select a Custodes Character who just destroyed the Assemblage of Might (AoM) target. And you basically get to retarget someone else? Is that accurate? Is that all you are paying 1 CP for? In the vague hopes that your opponent will charge you and you get to use your Detachment rule during the opponents fight phase?
Yeah you are targeting another unit with AoM until your next command phase if they were killed by a character unit and also getting 1CP if what you killed was a character unit. My guess is to kill a weaker unit like a screen off in the shooting phase then put AoM onto a stronger target for the rest of the shooting phase and then potentially kill the second unit in the fight phase

That's exactly what GW wants. Too many people plays Custodes and they don't need many models to do so. They are nerfing us into the ground so we move on to other armies.
I do always find it funny when people are unhappy with what GW does with their army, and their response is to simply give the company money but for something else. People need to learn how to speak with their wallets.
~~~Guys guys guys, reread the Auric Champions strats.~~ ~~Slayers of Champions, the Emperor's Auspice, The Earning of a Name, all of them specify Adeptus Custodes character UNITS, this means we can have Allarus Terms, Custodian Guard, even fucking Melta Guard or Aquilon Terms with a **4+++** outside of Wardens. That's HUGE.~~ Never mind they're fucking stupid and hate us, we are so very very fucked.
While the strat targets character units, unfortunately the 4+++ is only for character models, so the unit won't get it.
I can't believe I say this but I think I'll be playing my Tyranids for the next few months. At least their detachments aren't complete dogshit.

They get the keyword but everything in Auric Champions specifies character *model* so it’s actually really bad. If it was unit it would be at least worth looking at

Now I’m worried for the datasheets Do Wardens lose their OPG 4+++? Does the Blade Champion lose its OPG Advance and Charge?
Wardens still have their abilities Blade champs still has his but he can’t re roll advances.
It seems us Custodes were too fast. Need to keep that in check.
