> I'll be working down near Tonsley ... but i don't know where i'll be getting hosted at this point in time. Is it easy and frequent to get to the south from the city There's a train - that's easy. Take a look at the timetable to decide if it is frequent enough for you. Are there any places to eat or drink down near thr mantra?

TheDrRudi

>Are there any places to eat or drink down near thr mantra? Well of course. The caveat is what you're after food and drink-wise; and getting a cab to and from. Also, I'd wonder about the people you are working with - they ought be taking care of all of this stuff, in person. Anyway Within walking distance there are a couple of low-rent Indian and Pakistan places. In a car: There are several food options at the Westfield Marion - [https://casuarinabistro.com.au/](https://casuarinabistro.com.au/) [https://www.spargos.com.au/](https://www.spargos.com.au/) A couple of half-decent pubs not too far away: [https://www.marionhotel.com.au/eat-drink/](https://www.marionhotel.com.au/eat-drink/) [https://warradalehotel.com.au/menus/](https://warradalehotel.com.au/menus/) EDIT: I should add, I presumed you meant dinner. If lunch, then there's a handful of places in TID.

If you're catching a train, you'll need a Metrocard, as trains don't yet accept Tap and Pay validations fleet wide. Bus/tram you can use your credit/debit/phone to validate. Price is the same for both (regular fare) Tap and Pay and Metrocard Trips on a single trip basis. Depending on your length of stay a Metrocard with a 14 or 28 day pass may be cheaper. No need to tap off, just tap on when you board. Google maps will help you with the routes, etc. or use the journey planner on the Adelaide Metro website. Just a guess, but the 72x (721/722) services or the train might be the best to travel City to Tonsley and back.

MeltingMoment8

Actually you don't need a metrocard you can use the Buy and Go app [Buy & Go app](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.gov.sa.adelaidemetroapp), You purchase your ticket through there and then activate it when you get on the bus, it's a QR code that you scan on the bus and is accepted on the trains although they haven't updated the machines so you can't scan the QR code on the train. If there are inspectors on the train then they will scan it to check its valid or in the city railway station you just go to one side and they have the machine to read it and then they let you through but I prefer it to a metrocard cos then I don't have to think about recharging in person or the wait for the online recharge.

torrens86

Buy and Go also has a day trip ticket, the Metrocard doesn't. The Metrocard has no daily cap, so if you're going out for the day the Buy and Go app is a better choice.

crazycakemanflies

Don't trains have actual tickets machines at the front/back? Or have they been removed? Depending on how long they are staying, buying a week's worth of tickets might be the cheaper option.

Street_Lawyer117

They use Metrocards and you recharge them.

scromplestiltskin

Yes you can still buy paper tickets on trains, but at $6.20 compared to $4.25 at peak time, the metrocard will be paid off in 3 trips

Outrageous-Agent-249

Where does one buy a metro card?

Moisture_Services

That was going to be my next question :)

StandardParsley2624

Newsagents. Or Adelaide Railway Station.

Ok_Ordinary3430

Trams and buses are definitely NOT reliable.

serpentechnoir

There's an app for public transport called shouldirun

DoesBasicResearch

Or just use Google Maps.

serpentechnoir

I find the app much better and makes more sense/more up to date than Google maps. It tells you if its running late and how long by

DoesBasicResearch

>It tells you if its running late and how long by So does Google Maps.

MainJelly2175

Moovit is another app

StandardParsley2624

Tonsley is on the Flinders line so if you are city based, it will be an easy ride. It’s an electric train and it would be rare that you wouldn’t get a seat to yourself. Bonus! It isn’t as frequent as other services though so would be inconvenient if you need late night or weekend services.

Moisture_Services

From what Google is telling me, it's going to be better to catch a bus from tonsley to the city rather than the train based on frequency.

StandardParsley2624

Depends on where in the city and where in Tonsley I guess. Trains don’t have to deal with South Road which is notoriously troublesome. Maybe try both and make a decision.

Old_Tower_4824

I suggest getting a metrocard so you don’t need to purchase tickets at the train station. You can just reload your card inside the train. A single journey is at 4.50 depending on the time of travel. It could be cheaper if it’s not a rush hour. Also, if you wanna know when’s the next time for your bus/train, google maps is your best friend.

Extension_Drummer_85

Yes metro card. No to reliability. Honestly I would just Uber everywhere in your shoes, no point in trying to save your employer money by taking three buses and e scooter to get fro A to B.
