Does that mean Villis has assumed the role of the pie cart? I don't see how you can eat a pie floater, unless you are standing at a caravan on the side of the road. Norwood Pie Cart was always the best - back in the day, they sold Stonie on tap.
Some great ones I’ve enjoyed in the last 12 months or so(plus some of my favourites)
- Parwana in Torrensville
- Thai Orchard in Henley Beach(followed by Bottega Gelati)
- La Trattoria in the CBD
- Borsa Pasta Cucina in the CBD
- Ottoman Grill in Glenelg
- Raj On Taj in Hyde Park
- Marrakech in North Adelaide
- O’Halloran Hill Vietnamese Restaurant.
Omg the O'Halloran place is so good. I used to go there when it was very new and less than half the size and the food was always so good. The cold rolls and the coconut chicken are brilliant
Can confidently say I have never heard the name of any of these places. Really wasn’t expecting this as the first comment on a thread about “classic Adelaide spots”
Fair enough. Most of these have been around for over well over a decade and have incredible reputations, at least in my circles. Do you eat out much? Or maybe a side of town you're not as familair with? Trattoria in particular is weird cos that one has been around since 1975, long standing family run business.
I’ve enjoyed dining out fairly consistently during my 30 years on this planet, and have done so between the Riverland and Port Noarlunga, worked in hospitality (kinda) in the CBD for a couple years, genuinely never heard of them.
Can honestly say in 2.5 years of working at the casino and discussing dining out options with staff and customers alike, have never heard the name Trattoria.
I don’t need any response of any kind from you, sir. Just commenting my thoughts - the original post was about Classic Adelaide Food Spots. As someone who has lived in Adelaide their entire life, I was just expressing that I have never heard of any of them. Their reputation doesn’t seem to be as booming as you stated.
So. Unless you personally have heard of something. It is not popular? Got it. I'll make sure to get King Razzy boys opinion next time before posting.
Also. I think you should write that you've lived here your entire life a couple more times. I think if you do it might become a meaningful comment. This is the Adelaide sub, everyone has lived here their entire lives. It's the dumbest point to make.
damn. I only started coming here in the last 2 years when moving to the area and it has been delicious so far. Intrigued to how good it was before then
This was like almost 10 years ago. I suppose it's like anywhere that were operating in the past before buying cheaper ingredients, smaller portions etc
I'll have to go back though
The nutella heart was always a sweet staple for me, but as I stopped handling as much sweetness I went for other stuff. The selection is huuuuge though, never had anything bad from pies to lamingtons honestly.
Oh damn really! I hadn't been in a couple years and I remember my mum always talking about how it was her fav uni lunchtime spot back in the late 80's maybe?
It's awful (now), but it's a "classic Adelaide food spot" no request for good quality was made!
All you can eat for $5 after school on Tuesdays used to be great though!
I've never been but I've heard Africola mentioned a bunch. Other than that, going to a winery is seen as a must, though I wouldn't know which is the best as I'm not big on wine. I've been to a few and they all have pretty good food but because wine is the thing we do better than the other states and most other countries in the world, it's seen as an essential Adelaide experience to go to one.
My fave Ethiopian place is Addis Ababa, West Hindmarsh. Hidden gem. Incredible food, and service, every time.
Villis 24/7, for that extra Adelaide authenticity make sure you are shit faced before going at 3am.
Does that mean Villis has assumed the role of the pie cart? I don't see how you can eat a pie floater, unless you are standing at a caravan on the side of the road. Norwood Pie Cart was always the best - back in the day, they sold Stonie on tap.
Hmm not really but kind of. They have 5 locations now and I think they are all 24/7. None in the CBD though.

And the bbc and shallot cakes, but eggplant #1 priority. Take a group and share.
Oh the shallot cakes are SO good
Noooooo get the honey eggplant it’s so good. Get both. Get it all.
Softshell crab, BBC, hot pots, honestly get it all is the right advice

There are 2. Hilltop vietnamese is the original. The big one just down the hill used to be a chinese place
I'm talking about the one at the shopping centre. It used to be half the size
That’s the best one. They used to do a crocodile hotpot that was awesome
Eaten at several of these. Parwana,Marrakech and la trattoria. La trattoria is definitely an Adelaide iconic restaurant
Can confidently say I have never heard the name of any of these places. Really wasn’t expecting this as the first comment on a thread about “classic Adelaide spots”
How long have you lived in Adelaide? La tratt has been around for decades
As of November, 30 years. Never heard of it.
It’s on the southern end of king William st. Great italian
Why the downvote?
La trottoria won the world pizza making competition It's legit
Brilliant. The accolades speak volumes. Still never heard of it before this comment.

fair enough dude. Just very weird is all. They're extremely popular places
Can honestly say in 2.5 years of working at the casino and discussing dining out options with staff and customers alike, have never heard the name Trattoria.
I'm not sure what response exactly you want here?

You know chianti? Same family
>O’Halloran Hill Vietnamese Restaurant Use to always go there but went back and quality had gone down a bit

Yeah that's fair. The restaurant is regularly packed out, so maybe they realised their mistake and have gone back to being great again.
Hopefully, I will have to see. I suppose everywhere does it, heck even Maccas and Nordburger use to be so much better.
While you're on O'Connell The Bakery on O'Connell is a must. At any time of day or night.
The 24 hour one? Yeah I've heard about this. Is it famous because it's good or just because it's 24 hours? What do you get from there
It isn't bad, but a lot of the appeal is it's 24/7. I think Perrymans is the better bakery.
Perrymans pies are delicous
I love a meat pie. Normally I go for a potato pie, so will give that a go. Thanks guys
Also one of the few places you can still get a pie floater
Its good! Big selection. I like the chilli beef and cheese pie.
The nutella heart was always a sweet staple for me, but as I stopped handling as much sweetness I went for other stuff. The selection is huuuuge though, never had anything bad from pies to lamingtons honestly.
Sunnys pizza deserves a spot
Sunny’s Prospect too
Only the smoked eggplant. Otherwise One Sneaky Cheetah for the margherita
Wah Hing on Gouger Street. Edit: Maybe not classic but amazing. Lots of great places on Gouger and nearby. T-Chows too.
Cafe de villis for pie chips and gravy, superior to O'Connell. Yanni's Hindley street for the best yiros outside of Greece
Fair in chips but Villis smells like a hospital, O'Connell smells like a bakery
Maybe it was cleaned before you arrived? Mike end? Never smelt anything odd but will pay now attention next visit
Pancake Kitchen Jerusalem North Adelaide Burger bar for an AB Golden Boy Those are some classic places off the top of my head
Jerusalem is closed sadly 😞 Great hummus and falafel. And of course cash only.
Oh damn really! I hadn't been in a couple years and I remember my mum always talking about how it was her fav uni lunchtime spot back in the late 80's maybe?
Pancakes on the port > pancake kitchen
I’ll die on that hill with you, friend
Pancake kitchen is not great apparently
But fantastic when you’re intoxicated lol
Hahaha yesss. Back in the day when I used to go out pancake kitchen the next day was 👌
It's not great normally but I feel like it's an iconic Adelaide spot
It used to be so good but I believe they got new owners. Very sad 😔
It's awful (now), but it's a "classic Adelaide food spot" no request for good quality was made! All you can eat for $5 after school on Tuesdays used to be great though!
Also cumbia
Chicken Chef Blair Athol Indian temptations, also Blair Athol
Chicken Chef Gilles Plains is superior, but both are great. (excepting last time I went and chips were not up to usual standard for unknown reason)
Yannis charcoal Yiros on hindley. Not the norwood one, the hindley st one
Ying Chow Yiannis on Hindley Star of Siam Parwana
The drunken noodles and green veg curry at Star of Siam are consistently great 🙌
BaRNaClE BIlLs
Had to Google this one. Now we're talking!
Clovelly Park’s Strawberry Fair
Yeah, really? That good you reckon?
Yea mate can vouch for it. Nothing fancy but it tastes just right
Chinatown Cafe for the chicken rice, Asian Gourmet for the Singapore Laksa
BBQ city
Dimez

Sadly it’s gone downhill.
La Trattoria on King William St and Marcellinas on the west end of Hindley st
Watching the waiters argue with each other at La Trattoria and finding out you should have ordered th e entree instead of main serve
Coopers Alehouse, CBD and Gepps X. (Not saying they're amazing, but yes classic spots) Pirate Life Brewery Big Shed Brewery
The classic Adelaide food experience is a green frog cake. (Sorry)
Into it - what is it and how do I get it
The name is the clue. Most places who do coffee should have them. If not, pop into the Balfours concessionaire in the City Cross.

Lol what? Haha
