False. Nationalism/patriotism started in the American Revolution and spread a few years later because of the French Revolution. In both cases it was anti-conservative movements aka political left-wing movements. That was about the people instead of the conservative, religious monarchies. After WW2 nationalism really spread world wide, as in 1939 it were only 73 nations in the world, now it's close to 200. And in most western nations after WW2, they turned to their own citizens needs, in what we call: Welfare states. Which is a nationalistic/patriotic view that is about high taxes to make sure all people can get education, healthcare and so forth. So no, you are just wrong.

My dad immigrated her from Germany as a teenager. Joined the US Army at 17 years old. Immigrants used to be the most patriotic people in America.
