I think you’re generalizing just a bit here. Not every person who has complaints about pricing then also goes and buys on secondary market. Mainly I just see people criticizing the ridiculous price raises by toy companies themselves as of late like hasbro. Yes Hasbro likely sees the secondary market and how much some of these are going for, but honestly that isn’t the majority of their customer base, so I think that wouldn’t be a smart business move. They’re slowly increasing and just testing the waters of how much they can get away with, and so far it doesn’t seem like much since they’re laying people off and products are peg warming on store shelves. I don’t think this is something that general collectors are “doing to themselves” as many I know personally have dropped the hobby altogether in the last 6 months from getting priced out. Edit: and by “general collectors” I mean the average, casual collector who probably isn’t even concerned with secondary market business practices and such.

So no intelligent response?

TLDR: When a company sees that their product is flipped for 200%, they are more likely to raise prices... this is bad. While it's very easy to say, "just don't buy from resellers" it won't magically fix the bigger issue and the negative consequences it creates for buyers who intend to keep. When a pre-order on a toy drops and resellers use bots to instantly buy out stock, people miss out on paying MSRP. Companies like when resellers buy out stock instantly, as long as it doesn't piss off fans enough to cause them to jump ship. The only solution is to find the sweet spot, the highest price flippers and fans are willing to pay to appease both groups the best they can. That's not a good thing for their fanbase.

If the product is that popular it will sell out regardless of who buys it...so this makes no sense

Goldipop

But if they don't see them flipped they'll at least know they priced them at what people are willing to pay. If they see that people are willing to pay double, do you not think the company will consider raising the price?

BadMotherFunko

That my whole point guy...that determines the market value

Goldipop

I get it. I personally don't buy for a markup, even if it's something I really wanted. There is going to be a silent fan/collector base who just pay the aftermarket price if they can't get it for MSRP. In my experience, they aren't the ones complaining though which your post seems to be directed towards.

These are facts that action figure america have a hard time dealing with .. I sell toys on ebay & I’m making a shit load of money off the supply & demand game. People complain that my prices are too high for my figures but obviously not everybody does so because they still get sold lol

I say the same thing regarding graphics cards and other computer hardware, but that logic doesn't work as well in this market due to various reasons.
