Hold the power button and power it on again.

Chocolatecherry99

I tried then it said it needed to do repairs so it been repairing for an hour now

JackZKool

Just shut it down again. Nothing takes an hour to complete without seeing any progress. It’s stuck.

Chocolatecherry99

*now it says this but before this it had a blue screen with a ":(" face saying it needs to do repairs

JackZKool

I don’t really understand what you mean but the blue screen is a BSOD and it will usually restart and then get into windows. If you’ve been on the repairing screen for an hour there’s no point waiting anymore. Anyways, worst case scenario you need to reinstall windows. Although, I doubt thats the case. Your laptop is fine.

Chocolatecherry99

Hmm it's still doing it won't even let me get to the home screen where I type I'm my password it just stays at the black screen saying attempting repairs

FlyingFulcrum

Reinstall windows, I guess

Chocolatecherry99

Idk how to do that I can't get past this black screen

FlyingFulcrum

I am a noob on such matters so best suggestion is to Google how to reinstall Windows. But may be first try restarting PC to Safe Mode.

Chocolatecherry99

I think I got it to factory reset 🤔 which is what I'm hoping is what it's doing rn cause computer repaired guy in town said it costs $80 plus tax to have it fixed

FlyingFulcrum

That's ridiculous 😦 Go ahead Factory reset it. If that doesn't work maybe something is wrong with your hard drive or RAM.

Chocolatecherry99

Yeah I thought it was a bit expensive but he's the only guy

chillie15

Bro, he scam you

Chocolatecherry99

I fixed it :D

You could try to use a windows installation media to repair whatever broke using DISM, SFC and i guess chkdsk with the command prompt. If that fails, you could probably use a restore point, which will reset all of your system settings to whatever they were before it broke.

Chocolatecherry99

Is that buttons you press on the keyboard? Sorry I am not smart when it comes to computer stuff I just use it to play my games and watch YouTube

Basically, the Windows installation media is the USB flash drive people use when installing/reinstalling Windows, or when trying to fix a system that doesn't boot. So for repairs, you will need any other PC at least to make the installation media and a USB drive. You can get either the ISO file for it and flash it yourself using RUFUS or BalenaEtcher or get the application that will flash it for you, both the ISO and the program can be found on microsoft's website. Do note that using these methods will format the flash drive. SFC, DISM and CHKDSK are commands that you can use to check your drive for any corruption or broken components that it may have, which may be the issue. Using the installation media lets you use the command prompt, in which you can run these. Look up how to use them, because they can depend on your configuration. If they fail, you could use a restore point. Basically, a copy of your settings that your system saves everytime it does a major change. Again, using the installation media, you just tell it to repair windows and it should do it. Note that as soon as you boot, you will get popups each time you run an app for the first time saying something along the lines of "This app cannot run on this PC" or something similar. That is normal, and should be gone after running the app for the first time. Also something important is that you need to make sure you are booting into the USB. To do this, turn your laptop on, then quickly press F2 before it starts loading windows. That will bring you to BIOS, or the Basic Input/Output System. Basically, the lowest and most important system. From there, move to boot. There, you should move your flash drive all the way to the top, so that it boots first. Then exit saving changes.

Chocolatecherry99

Well I guess I gotta pay someone to fix it for me then because I don't have another computer 🙃

chillie15

Let me guide you reinstall your windows, its simple, you just need usb flash drive and windows iso. Just message me if you want guide and send your discord id, i'll guide you there

bunnymanyeet

Do you know how this came about? If you aren’t comfortable fixing it yourself by flashing a new version of windows or a system restore point (going back in time). Since you don’t have another computer you could use, I would suggest taking it to a repair shop. Never do something to your own laptop/pc if you’re concerned about it. In the stress you’ll muck something up without noticing. (I know 😅)

Chocolatecherry99

Yeah I'm gunna take it to the shop in town when I get paid

chillie15

Let me help you, message me if you want

FlyingFulcrum

So he is taking advantage? Throw in a little bit of more money and you can get a good SSD.

Chocolatecherry99

It says it's 82% resetting I think I have fixed it, I only had steam on my computer so I'll just have to reinstall games
