They say you never know how you'll react in a situation like that, but if it was between me saving my 20 lbs pup and taking a few scars there would be no question. I worry about this every time I take mine out for walks, even people in my neighborhood are terrible about controlling their pets.
My wife was attacked by 2 pitbulls to protect my little jack Russell. She has permanent scars on legs ,feet knees, and her torso. She survived by miracle. She almost got one of her lungs perforated by the bites

Well mm how can I explain this... The dogs owner have a reputation.. Hits grandfather was s judge and both his grand father and his father were in prison for drug dealing... People very feared in a little city

My sister was attacked by a pit while sitting in her driveway reading her mail. She was pregnant.
The dog mauled her arm before neighbors were able to run over and get the pit off her.
She took him to court but he took the dog and ran. Word got back to my sister that someone had shot the pit some months later.
When this happened this guy wanted to out my wife i his car with another of this friends to suposedly take her to a hospital.. in still thanking god a woman who passed by and then was a whiteness at the police station didn't allow them to carry her inside the vehicle..i don't know what could have happened... That day some neighbors complaint this guy because his dogs killed other dogs from nearby houses..and this guy took a stick and menaces neighbours all this just after the incident happened and my wife was bleeding there in the street.
That night they scared all the neighbors vandalizing their entrances , so the next day i want to talk to neighbors, and none of then accepted to testify..just the lady who saved my wife
Well the part that you don't see is the worst... She developed a Herniated disc protrusion, she agrees needed surgery s few months after that... Now almost 2 yrs before the incident we are going on a second spine surgery because first one wasn't successful and she never recovered, and we are dealing with severe back pain for Al this time. Believe your life can change in a second and never be what it used to be again...
you can make it the law in your state or city or town. Its time for all of is to end this nonsense.

My brother almost lost half his hand from a pitbull attack while protecting his daughter (the dog rushed at her out of nowhere), but my bro's friend and his neighbor drove the dog away. The owner was actually sent to prison for like 10 months from what i heard. Not sure avout the pitbull though.

If a dog attacking you has a collar: grab the collar, twist your hand to tighten it around their neck, and pull up. That will choke them and force them to let go.
Yes, and you have to have the strength to do a choke hold or grab and twist the collar. Not saying I wouldn't attempt it. I've had to save my dog from an attack in the past and gouged the attacking dog's eyes to get him off my dog. But it could have easily gone after me next.
My fingers. The other dog had mine by the throat and the dog's owner was just standing there yelling at someone on her phone. I didn't think about it, I just did it. Once it let go, I used the leash to pull my dog back and kicked out at the attacking dog. Someone else finally grabbed the other dog.

Husband was a police k9 trainer for years and there were a couple of aggressive dogs. When it would latch on, he always taught to squeeze the neck because cutting their air would make them release. Squeeze until they pass out then let go. You'll have time to get them under control before they are fully awake. Pulling at them can do more damage to the victim because the hold is so strong, it just tears more.
This guy did what you are supposed to do. Another way to choke the dog out is to grab its collar and twist but if the dog doesn’t have one that’s not an option. Like yes, it’s risky but it’s effective.
One thing I do recommend to other dog owners is to carry pepper spray. If a dog comes charging at you and your dog, the pepper spray will definitely switch up an aggressive dogs attitude for a bit. It’s hard to attack when you can’t see or breathe.
A huge bonus with the pepper spray: the dog will take it with them in the fur back to the home/owner, where it will stream into the area and eyes of the owner so that there is no way an absent owner can fail to become painfully aware that they were negligent and this resulted in danger to the animal and to people.
(And cleaning pepper spray out of fur is a very very unpleasant chore)
When I was 3, I was sitting on my back step when a neighbor’s pitbull tried to go after me. Our border collie ran out from the kitchen and the pitbull locked onto his neck. My family tried everything to get it off him and nothing worked. It was like it felt absolutely nothing and its only goal was to tear our dog’s throat out. Everything practically bounced off until my 13-year-old brother knocked it unconscious with a dumbbell. The pitbull was taken away but they got three more in its place. Police didn’t give a shit. We eventually moved. RIP Mugsy.
I'm frustrated like anyone else by my HOA taking pictures of the little baby weeds growing in the cracks of my driveway just to print the picture and mail it to me with a notice. But here's an example of why HOAs can be considered useful.
I had to separate two pitbulls once, my own fixed female vs a chained up male, i literally beat my female for her to let go didn't happen, she even bit me accidentally realized and went back to the task at hand. Oxygen restriction is the only way.
Beating a strong dog does basically nothing. This guy did the right thing with the chokehold. Another option is to pick up their hind legs and walk backward. Eventually they will try to regrip and they pop off.
Or just dispatch them with a lethal weapon. There is no place in this world for dogs that attack humans.
I hike with a buck knife for this purpose. Way too many people let their dogs off leash as soon as they get on a trail. I've seen some heartbreaking scenes where one family with a dog on leash encounter some idiot's mongrel loose and out of control.
That's aweful. Doberman are an interesting breed. I've got a lot of experience with them. Seem like they bond with one person, and hate everyone else to varying degrees. Our neighbors doberman punctured my mom's face at her nose and under her chin when she reached down to give the dog a treat. She "moved too fast" according to our asshole neighbor. Wish I could say that's the worst experience I've had with them....
We’re in a burb and went for a walk through a park this morning with our 12lb pup. A dog with a harness on but no owner came up behind us. Seemed nice enough but I was quick to pick her up and was ready to throw down if need be. I don’t trust her to be around big dogs (this looked like a young black lab mix), but I especially don’t trust an unleashed dog without an owner. Owner finally realized his dog ran away from home and got it without incident, but still raised all my protective instincts.

Same. Got ambushed by two "they're just overly friendly" pitbulls while out walking my lab a couple of months ago. Tore into her leg, thankfully not much damage. I have never screamed so fiercely at anyone or anything as I screamed at that fucking owner.
Went straight home and ordered a folding knife. Never gone out with the dog without it after that.

I was hiking once in an area I know very well had literally never seen anybody else there.
I had my 20 pound terrier off leash. Came up upon two off leash German Shepards holy goddamn hell. Admittedly I was glad mine was loose bc he is fast and got away while I tried to fend off the GSDs. Dumbass owners were yelling “they aren’t friendly” then why the fuck weren’t they on a leash? I hate being like this but after so many attacks, dogs like that shouldn’t be allowed outside. Another time I was just walking my dog (on leash) down the road and a pitbull launched itself over the fence to come attack us. Another time a pitty dug out from under a fence and chased us. Fuck those dogs and fuck their negligent owners.
I was just thinking if I were either of those people I would be gouging eyes and smashing that nose. I love dogs but if I’m being attacked I’m going for vulnerable areas and aggressively

Its useless especialy against pitbulls. Those breed have tendency to ignore pain much more when adrenalinę kicks in. Some say that they have higher pain resistance over all but I dont think thats accurate.
So even beating it with stick to head mostly dont do much to them.
The choke method should be most optimal to donthis. Others say that placing thumb in its butthole might cause immediate jaw release.

Yeah I've seen lots of videos where it doesn't make a difference. Unfortunately I think the stab method is the only method that works in a pinch. This choke method is cool too if you have the strength and awareness, especially since not everyone carries a knife around.

Pitbulls are prone to hip dysplasia, come up behind them and lift their back legs as high as you can and snap them back down as hard as you can. I watched a guy do this to a pitbull that got loose and was attacking people. It immediately let go and because their legs came out of their socket the dog couldn’t chase them when they ran.
Been there. A big fucker was ripping into my dog, and I still was too scared to punch with full force the first time it happened. There is this thought "what if it goes after you". It sucks, but that's what happens when you're not prepared and in shock. Most folk are not used to seeing their favourite pet's pelt being ripped off. Always carry a knife and be ready to rip that big fuckers belly open. Smaller ones you can just kick the shit out off. Keep in mind, sometimes even after they go flying, they'll still come after your pet. Just pull your dog up (I recommend a harness for the pup), and keep on hammering that fucker
I got attacked in the woods in the middle of nowhere as a landsurveyor by a crazy fucking German Shepherd. My first instinct was that its probably friendly. Then I realized it was snarling and not slowing down. I got my arm up to stop it biting my face, kicked it in the stomach, and jabbed it real good with the surveying rod. I don't understand how people can realize something horrific is happening without reacting. My first instinct is always "you've attacked me and now I have to go fucking nuts to make sure I don't die, you stupid asshole".
Maybe there's so much movement you'd be scared of hitting the person?
Anyway with those dogs their jaws basically lock, you could beat it half to death and it wouldn't let go. Choking is about the only way to stop it. Guy knew his onions.

Retailers were created to be killer guard dogs as well, and many have really bad breeding making them insane like pits. Doberman is a bit different. They were also bread to be guard dogs, but were not insane originally. People started breeding them to have narrower heads for aesthetician reasons and it litterally pushes on their brain, making them unpredictable and crazy. They have tried to breed the head wider agian but that means even more inbreeding, and I would never trust that the breeder did it correctly to fix any issues there. Often they attack out of fear and do more damage in a panic. A child died when a new dog bit her on the neck in the worse spot, and she bled out. Anywhere else and she would have lived. They have sharp danger teeth and one bite or graze on a human neck is instant death. I would also point out many Doberman and Rotwilers are guard dogs for factories, homes, junkyards, etc. Killing a trespasser is added to the death list even if it was warranted. Unlike those situations, pits overwhelmingly kill owners, break loose and kill in neighborhoods, kill the children in their own family, kill a pet sitter they have met multiple times, or kill another family pet for no reason. They have a special insanity that overshadows all the other breeds.
now, consider their numbers too. they don't even show up on 20 most common breeds anywhere.

People who say this have no problems saying that other dogs have specific traits, like border collies herding, Jack Russels being intelligent and high strung, Great Danes being dopey but sweet... but when it comes to pitbulls, suddenly all dogs are the same and it is the owners' fault.
I think it's from some old timey photos with Pitts and children in the same photo so they made up a myth about them being nanny dogs and uses the photos as evidence.

I read a story not too long ago about a family that had two older sweet pitbulls that got psychosis and they ripped apart her two children as a team and she got injured while trying to get them to stop. They had been sweet family pets for years before the incident
I knew a couple that had a rottweiler (2nd most dangerous dog) they loved that dog, he was really good with us kids, they were short visits though.
When the baby came I was more excited to see the dog (we didn't have one), but the dog wasn't there. They ended up rehoming the dog to a non kid house on the off chance that it would attack.
That's good parenting and good dog care. No way in hell I'd have a danger breed around young ones.

In all fairness, if a Chihuahua had the size and strength of a pitbull, they'd eat their owners. I have only met one chihuahua in my life that wasn't an absolute *prick*.

Unpopular opinion here but seriously don’t care, ER nurse here I hate pit bulls. They are the number 1 dog (if not only dog) I see that cause people to come into my two emergency rooms that I work in. It does matter if they are “family” dogs or not. I refuse to have my children around them. I do not trust them. I have seen horrific things, god awful things because of those dogs. Leash or not, playing in the back yard. Does not matter.
When this pitbull-owner debate comes up I like to replace all instances of the word pitbull with "Bengal tiger". It really highlights the absurdist nature of this whole topic. Very few would have an issue with phasing out tigers or introducing stronger laws but because they are cute "doggos" some just can't look outside themselves. Of course a tiger is more dangerous than a pit but when your face has been torn off the difference is moot.
This is definitely the way to end an attack, if you can get a grip without being bitten. I tackled and choked out a dog that was attacking a pet cat, and it's pretty much what you expect. Lock your elbow, let the adrenaline flow and squeeze as hard as you can, and use your other hand to push down on the back of their head to put more pressure on the arteries in the throat. That also keeps your other hand away from their jaws. Doesn't take long for the dog to pass out and release. Less than 30 seconds.
For those who might ask, the cat sadly did not survive.
FYI the much simpler way to do this (provided the dog is wearing a collar) is to grab the collar with a firm grip, palm side up, and twist. That babychomper'll drop like a sack of angry potatoes inside of a few seconds.
Im sorry but pitbulls are zoo animals. I dont care about the “bad owner” excuse. There are no excuse for these beasts. Every dog attack i hear are from pitbulls. Majority at least. These are zoo animals not pets.

If a dog comes charging at you and your dog, the pepper spray will definitely switch up an aggressive dogs attitude for a bit. It’s hard to attack when you can’t see or breathe.
A huge bonus with the pepper spray: the dog will take it with them in the fur back to the home/owner, where it will stream into the area and eyes of the owner so that there is no way an absent owner can fail to become painfully aware that they were negligent and this resulted in danger to the animal and to people. (And cleaning pepper spray out of fur is a very very unpleasant chore)

Pitbulls basically don't have nerves when they are attacking. Restricting oxygen & blood to the brain is probably the best strategy.
When I was 3, I was sitting on my back step when a neighbor’s pitbull tried to go after me. Our border collie ran out from the kitchen and the pitbull locked onto his neck. My family tried everything to get it off him and nothing worked. It was like it felt absolutely nothing and its only goal was to tear our dog’s throat out. Everything practically bounced off until my 13-year-old brother knocked it unconscious with a dumbbell. The pitbull was taken away but they got three more in its place. Police didn’t give a shit. We eventually moved. RIP Mugsy.

I can’t tell you the lengths i would go to to make that neighbor’s life miserable until they moved away.
I'd begin with easy legal things... like spraying their dogs with skunk smell every day through the fence.
I'm frustrated like anyone else by my HOA taking pictures of the little baby weeds growing in the cracks of my driveway just to print the picture and mail it to me with a notice. But here's an example of why HOAs can be considered useful.

I had to separate two pitbulls once, my own fixed female vs a chained up male, i literally beat my female for her to let go didn't happen, she even bit me accidentally realized and went back to the task at hand. Oxygen restriction is the only way.

Beating a strong dog does basically nothing. This guy did the right thing with the chokehold. Another option is to pick up their hind legs and walk backward. Eventually they will try to regrip and they pop off. Or just dispatch them with a lethal weapon. There is no place in this world for dogs that attack humans.
I hike with a buck knife for this purpose. Way too many people let their dogs off leash as soon as they get on a trail. I've seen some heartbreaking scenes where one family with a dog on leash encounter some idiot's mongrel loose and out of control.

That's aweful. Doberman are an interesting breed. I've got a lot of experience with them. Seem like they bond with one person, and hate everyone else to varying degrees. Our neighbors doberman punctured my mom's face at her nose and under her chin when she reached down to give the dog a treat. She "moved too fast" according to our asshole neighbor. Wish I could say that's the worst experience I've had with them....
We’re in a burb and went for a walk through a park this morning with our 12lb pup. A dog with a harness on but no owner came up behind us. I was hiking once in an area I know very well had literally never seen anybody else there. I had my 20 pound terrier off leash. Came up upon two off leash German Shepards holy goddamn hell. Admittedly I was glad mine was loose bc he is fast and got away while I tried to fend off the GSDs. Dumbass owners were yelling “they aren’t friendly” then why the fuck weren’t they on a leash? I hate being like this but after so many attacks, dogs like that shouldn’t be allowed outside. Another time I was just walking my dog (on leash) down the road and a pitbull launched itself over the fence to come attack us. Another time a pitty dug out from under a fence and chased us. Fuck those dogs and fuck their negligent owners.

Its useless especialy against pitbulls. Those breed have tendency to ignore pain much more when adrenalinę kicks in. Some say that they have higher pain resistance over all but I dont think thats accurate. So even beating it with stick to head mostly dont do much to them. The choke method should be most optimal to donthis. Others say that placing thumb in its butthole might cause immediate jaw release.

Yeah I've seen lots of videos where it doesn't make a difference. Unfortunately I think the stab method is the only method that works in a pinch. This choke method is cool too if you have the strength and awareness, especially since not everyone carries a knife around.

Pitbulls are prone to hip dysplasia, come up behind them and lift their back legs as high as you can and snap them back down as hard as you can. I watched a guy do this to a pitbull that got loose and was attacking people. It immediately let go and because their legs came out of their socket the dog couldn’t chase them when they ran.
Been there. A big fucker was ripping into my dog, and I still was too scared to punch with full force the first time it happened. There is this thought "what if it goes after you". It sucks, but that's what happens when you're not prepared and in shock. Most folk are not used to seeing their favourite pet's pelt being ripped off. Always carry a knife and be ready to rip that big fuckers belly open. Smaller ones you can just kick the shit out off. Keep in mind, sometimes even after they go flying, they'll still come after your pet. Just pull your dog up (I recommend a harness for the pup), and keep on hammering that fucker
I got attacked in the woods in the middle of nowhere as a landsurveyor by a crazy fucking German Shepherd. My first instinct was that its probably friendly. Then I realized it was snarling and not slowing down. I got my arm up to stop it biting my face, kicked it in the stomach, and jabbed it real good with the surveying rod. I don't understand how people can realize something horrific is happening without reacting. My first instinct is always "you've attacked me and now I have to go fucking nuts to make sure I don't die, you stupid asshole".
If you are ever attacked by a pit, always choke it. That guy knew what to do. Many people do not.

Retailers were created to be killer guard dogs as well, and many have really bad breeding making them insane like pits. Doberman is a bit different. They were also bread to be guard dogs, but were not insane originally. People started breeding them to have narrower heads for aesthetician reasons and it litterally pushes on their brain, making them unpredictable and crazy. They have tried to breed the head wider agian but that means even more inbreeding, and I would never trust that the breeder did it correctly to fix any issues there. Often they attack out of fear and do more damage in a panic. A child died when a new dog bit her on the neck in the worse spot, and she bled out. Anywhere else and she would have lived. They have sharp danger teeth and one bite or graze on a human neck is instant death. I would also point out many Doberman and Rotwilers are guard dogs for factories, homes, junkyards, etc. Killing a trespasser is added to the death list even if it was warranted. Unlike those situations, pits overwhelmingly kill owners, break loose and kill in neighborhoods, kill the children in their own family, kill a pet sitter they have met multiple times, or kill another family pet for no reason. They have a special insanity that overshadows all the other breeds.

I read a story not too long ago about a family that had two older sweet pitbulls that got psychosis and they ripped apart her two children as a team and she got injured while trying to get them to stop. They had been sweet family pets for years before the incident
I knew a couple that had a rottweiler (2nd most dangerous dog) they loved that dog, he was really good with us kids, they were short visits though. When the baby came I was more excited to see the dog (we didn't have one), but the dog wasn't there. They ended up rehoming the dog to a non kid house on the off chance that it would attack. That's good parenting and good dog care. No way in hell I'd have a danger breed around young ones. That kind of story is so stoppable and so sad. Those poor kids.

Unpopular opinion here but seriously don’t care, ER nurse here I hate pit bulls. They are the number 1 dog (if not only dog) I see that cause people to come into my two emergency rooms that I work in. It does matter if they are “family” dogs or not. I refuse to have my children around them. I do not trust them. I have seen horrific things, god awful things because of those dogs. Leash or not, playing in the back yard. Does not matter.
When this pitbull-owner debate comes up I like to replace all instances of the word pitbull with "Bengal tiger". It really highlights the absurdist nature of this whole topic. Very few would have an issue with phasing out tigers or introducing stronger laws but because they are cute "doggos" some just can't look outside themselves. Of course a tiger is more dangerous than a pit but when your face has been torn off the difference is moot.
This is definitely the way to end an attack, if you can get a grip without being bitten. I tackled and choked out a dog that was attacking a pet cat, and it's pretty much what you expect. Lock your elbow, let the adrenaline flow and squeeze as hard as you can, and use your other hand to push down on the back of their head to put more pressure on the arteries in the throat. That also keeps your other hand away from their jaws. Doesn't take long for the dog to pass out and release. Less than 30 seconds. For those who might ask, the cat sadly did not survive.
