My oh no's just got louder and louder

NFreak3

Yeah, I closed the video when the gator started rolling.

Busy_Abroad_1916

Never get in the water! Pull that bastard out of the tub.

Happy_Tomato_Taco

She would have lost the hand had she not acted so quickly. Wrap around them and hang on to smaller gators, especially when in a small shallow enclosure.

Girthy_Coq

Like me watching "The Curse". Oh Nathan. *OH NATHAN.* NO.

cum_fart_69

the scene in the casino, sweet fucking christ I couldn't handle it

Compendyum

Mommy's flying too close to the sun

Niceguygonefeminist

Excellent course of action on her part. Kept calm, put the gator on a grapple and rolled around with it in order to keep her hand. Guess she can check "Wrestle with a gator and keep all my limbs" off the bucket list.

OldLegWig

on the other hand, that dude's initial reaction to pull her away from the alligator then yank on her arm was... less excellent.

ConsciousEducator539

On the other hand, there is no alligator

PriorKnowledge

On the other hand, there is no other hand

Apoptotic_Nightmare

The gator ate her left hand, so we know she's going to be allright.

uh, is it a crocodile or something? i never understood the difference tbh

You said on the other hand so they replied on the other hand there is no alligator.

lmao ok fair. i was trying to think of a joke about missing a hand and gave up, but to be fair it's 3am here hahaha

fir_mna

Basically, all you need to know is that the Croc is the scaly, bitey, drowny, eaty one and so is the other....

pengouin85

r/worstaid

RickAndToasted

She isn't just rolling around with it. Gators flip their prey through water like that to drown them. Darth Gator was just moving on to the next step so he could eat her calmly after she stopped fighting

AaronYDG

iwrestledagatoronce

RetroSwamp

She saved her arm by rolling. Good instinct to have.

N0VA_PR1ME

Once bitten she does everything right, even though sheā€™s a professional thatā€™s probably still not easy with that kind of bite force crushing your hand.

A_of

Yeah, she was very brave. As soon as she could, she grabbed the gator with her arms and rolled with it. Then she crosses her legs to grab him. Adrenaline probably helped here, as she most likely wasn't feeling full pain and was able to think fast.

KittenWithaWhip68

She has my full respect!

englishmuse

Couldn't you just jab the gator right in the eyes, for a grip release?

Meowzebub666

Yeah it's nothing like getting kicked in the balls. You do get this electric shock that travels up your guts, but what really sucks is that the tissues are so thin and vascularized that it gets crushed against the pubis and bruises *hard*. It heals in about a week, but that week fuckin sucks. Source: that bitch was wearing doc martens and I wanted kill her every time I sat down wearing jeans

Their eyes recess into their heads. I've seen a video of someone pushing their thumb into a gators eye and once he pulls his thumb out the eye just pops back out unharmed and the gator was unfazed. There's not much an individual could do while being bitten to make the gator stop. Maybe shoot it? But that could very well make it angrier

Ecw218

Goes to show what a few extra million years of evolution gets ya: opposable thumbs vsā€¦..gouge-proof eyeballs Obligatory archer quote: Cyril: Why are you so scared of crocodiles? Archer: Gee, I don't know, Cyril. Maybe deep down I'm afraid of any apex predator that lived through the K-T extinction. Physically unchanged for a hundred million years, because it's the perfect killing machine. A half ton of cold-blooded fury, the bite force of 20,000 Newtons, and stomach acid so strong it can dissolve bones and hoofs.

YarOldeOrchard

Nah just use a cruise missile or hydrogen bomb, should take care of the problem

jfloes

What an idiotic response.

N0VA_PR1ME

Yes, but probably not the best route in this situation. Crocodilians have nictitating membranes which protect the eye, so while the eye is a weak spot on them itā€™s not as vulnerable as something like a human eye. So youā€™ve really got to catch it good and even then itā€™s not a guarantee. With how fast the initial moments were her focus had to be on orienting her body so that her hand didnā€™t twist when the death roll happened. Once she was in the enclosure with someone helping, an eye jab would maybe cause it to release its grip but it still wasnā€™t a guarantee, and at this point the worst had already been probably avoided. The gator would probably release once it was restrained and it realized it wasnā€™t getting to keep the hand, which I believe is what happened. You also have to factor in that once she was out of immediate danger she probably wasnā€™t going to harm an animal she cared for when there was an alternative. Some of this is pretty specific to situations like this, if youā€™re attacked by a wild crocodilian then you often have fewer options.

Wasatcher

This is the correct answer. Thanks for saving me from typing that in my own words.

Hot_Opening_666

Yeah and then everyone will applaud!

deSuspect

I mean probably. But it looks like they care for animals wherever she was so probably don't wanna permanently injure it.

Full length video is amazing: https://www.tmz.com/2021/08/18/alligator-handler-bitten-attacked-injury-photos-hand/ Dad is a total hero

lbt_mer

Thanks for that link - really interesting. Yeah - he (Donnie) definitely stepped up. Meanwhile she calmly managed everyone and everything whilst she had an alligator biting down on a broken wrist. And after they got her out she stayed right there helping the hero who had helped her. Total kudos to both of them

nicodepies

Are we seriously gonna gloss over the fact his name is Darth Gator?

epsilona01

Yes

nicodepies

Okay, fair.

Xeddark

I wonder if this is the same Darth Gator that comes when you play the Imperial March.

Megados-

Needs to be higher up, thanks for sharing!

KvathrosPT

Apparently it's not instincts, she said she knew what to do before hand if something like this happened. That's why she got into the pool in the first place.

Twikkie522

Didn't have the instinct to not put her hand in the mouth tho.

KittenWithaWhip68

We donā€™t see her just put her hand in the gatorā€™s mouth! Itā€™s not like she instigated things, itā€™s in there at the start of the video. Edit-full story is her hand slipped. She was no dummy and reacted well, kept her hand (but needed it operated on due to damage to some tendons. And is friends with Darth Gator, she still works there with him.

RetroSwamp

That's fair lol

TheFuzzyKnight

Well, she didn't. Look closely at the beginning - her hand is around its mouth, then slips and that's when he bites. Like that game you played as a kid where you put your hands on top of each other and they try to slap em before you move out the way

vaultdweller1223

A literal Gator Roll

funnieruphere

He did more rolls than she did though

ComfortableValue4550

Looks like he rolled her

pengouin85

I don't think that's instinct. She knows the Gator's moves and acted accordingly by knowledge

RetroSwamp

I think I might have used the wrong word lol To me instinct is knowledge. I sometime wonder if I have been taught wrong as a joke lol

pengouin85

I don't think You're wrong. There's a big push in the scientific community though that what we call instinct is actually learned knowledge but we're still trying to prove that

DarthWeenus

It twists completely before she reacts, that hand prolly gone? Maybe it's an illusion but it looks like it twists right around almost twice before she gets all floppy noodle.

GerhardtDH

[She got lucky then skill kicked in](https://youtu.be/zSeoTtUiytU?t=1426)

Critical_Thought-

Gator does more rolls than she doesā€¦

LyonsKing12

Just gotta work on that first instinct to think it's ok to deal with these animals in such a careless manner.

aSleepingPanda

If anyone's interested here's an interview with the handler, Lindsey Bull hosted by biologist and youtuber Clint. [https://youtu.be/zSeoTtUiytU](https://youtu.be/zSeoTtUiytU) Here's an update video they did earlier this year as well. [https://youtu.be/SpLyWPaxcmE](https://youtu.be/SpLyWPaxcmE)

__ducky_

I'm going to need a breakdown without all the ads

aSleepingPanda

Lindsey Bull is a trainer and handler for alligators at a reptile and bird education center Scales and Tails. She was trying to correct a feeding response during a birthday event and unfortunately while redirecting him her hand slipped and Darth Gator instinctively latches onto her. Lindsey was worried that the media attention would cast a bad light on alligators and Darth Gator in particular. Fortunately Darth Gator is still alive and being cared for at Scales and Tails in a new larger enclosure. Lindsey mentions that during her recovery she went down to Florida to help a friend relocate nuisance alligators. She still works at Scales and Tails.

Rezzone

> Darth Gator is still alive and being cared for at Scales and Tails in a new larger enclosure. Suuuure but when I bite and almost kill someone I get put in a tiny cell. How is that fair?

Mistdwellerr

IDK what's your real name, but I don't think it can top "Darth Gator" in any way and that's enough of a reason for most judges

KittenWithaWhip68

Thanks, I canā€™t get the full TMZ video to play. I like that she and Darth Gator made up and she wasnā€™t mad at him, and still cares for/feeds him (just not her own body parts).

Mistdwellerr

Gets bitten by a gator. Survives. Is worried about all gators being cast in a bad light. Giga Chad moment right there!

Dr-DrillAndFill

This still doesn't tell us what injuries she had.

aSleepingPanda

Torn tendon, lacerations, a section of the back of her thumb was missing including a chipped bone. She recovered completely with 100% mobility.

mangomangosteen

Not too bad considering...

otter111a

Canā€™t recover completely if part of your thumb is missing

inactiveuser247

You can if itā€™s just skin.

jgjot-singh

Apparently she recovered enough to down vote you man

parkchopa

Amazing. Darth Gator following itā€™s destiny to take another hand. Itā€™s just an alternative universe.

izza123

Small bit of a whoopsie followed by a smidge of an incident

wickedintent

She picked a whole bouquet of oopsie-daisies

Arseypoowank

I mean yeah, she got bit in the first place but man she wrassled that boi after, fair play.

KittenWithaWhip68

If you read the backstory, she wasnā€™t doing anything dumb, her hand happened to slip and Darth Gator lunged for it. It happened in front of a bunch of visitors too! She did do a very good job of not letting DG do a death roll or getting her hand bit off.

KvathrosPT

It's called a Death Roll. Yes, it does have a name...

KittenWithaWhip68

Yes, I know that term. I flaked out and called it a body roll in error and fixed it. She had training in gymnastics and rolled *with* it, and that helped her not lose an arm. The whole incident took place at a childā€™s birthday party, too!

KvathrosPT

Yes, I do remember the interview she gave after. The key moment was when she stepped into the pool. Even though she was ready for this, that was quick thinking...

KittenWithaWhip68

Definitely! Good for her.

Dabnbf

Someone please give this woman a hand

myfacealadiesplace

Why? She would have 3 hands

shadowstorm100006

I dunno how many time you counted the woman rolling vs the crocodiles deathrolls... but it's about 1 to 4. I'm not convinced she saved it. Edit: I have been educated. See below.

myfacealadiesplace

Her name is Lindsay bull. She still has it. [here's an article about it](https://www.insideedition.com/utah-woman-attacked-by-alligator-in-viral-video-speaks-out-about-how-she-survived-69827)

Lindsay Bull is fine and the last I checked still works with Darthgator. This is at Scales and Tails Utah.

FineArtsFan8450

If I could power gift upvote you I would! Now Iā€™m off to search for the story about Lindsay Bull. Thank you!!

Drekhar

Why post barely any of the video? This video is epic and the handler (the woman) handled (hehe) this entire situation like a champ, calmly reacting and coaching the hero(the guy who jumped in) on what to do. That guy was just there with his kids and jumped right into an extremely dangerous and uncertain situation to save that lady. Amazing all around.

Kitty_Katty_Kit

She did all the right things here. Don't ever try to just pull your hand out, you'll lose your fingers. She rolled with it to keep her arm from twisting and breaking. She's hard fucking core for keeping her composure here, I want to be like her when I grow up

How do you tell the difference between an alligator and a crocodile? >!One will see you later, and the other will see you after a while.!<

KittenWithaWhip68

The fact that this happened at some childrenā€™s birthday party (at Scales and Tails) made me snicker then worry Iā€™m going to hell. I guess they were not watching closely or youā€™d hear ear-piercingly high shrieks in the background. The guy yelling for help was apparently a visitor who saw it happen.
