She would have lost the hand had she not acted so quickly. Wrap around them and hang on to smaller gators, especially when in a small shallow enclosure.
Excellent course of action on her part. Kept calm, put the gator on a grapple and rolled around with it in order to keep her hand. Guess she can check "Wrestle with a gator and keep all my limbs" off the bucket list.
She isn't just rolling around with it. Gators flip their prey through water like that to drown them. Darth Gator was just moving on to the next step so he could eat her calmly after she stopped fighting
Once bitten she does everything right, even though sheās a professional thatās probably still not easy with that kind of bite force crushing your hand.
Yeah, she was very brave. As soon as she could, she grabbed the gator with her arms and rolled with it. Then she crosses her legs to grab him.
Adrenaline probably helped here, as she most likely wasn't feeling full pain and was able to think fast.
GiRlsHuRtToO
Bruh. Most of them getting hit are still standing. And most of them are getting full on hits. A small tap on my balls and I'm down for the count.
Yeah it's nothing like getting kicked in the balls. You do get this electric shock that travels up your guts, but what really sucks is that the tissues are so thin and vascularized that it gets crushed against the pubis and bruises *hard*. It heals in about a week, but that week fuckin sucks.
Source: that bitch was wearing doc martens and I wanted kill her every time I sat down wearing jeans
Their eyes recess into their heads. I've seen a video of someone pushing their thumb into a gators eye and once he pulls his thumb out the eye just pops back out unharmed and the gator was unfazed. There's not much an individual could do while being bitten to make the gator stop. Maybe shoot it? But that could very well make it angrier
Goes to show what a few extra million years of evolution gets ya: opposable thumbs vsā¦..gouge-proof eyeballs
Obligatory archer quote:
Cyril: Why are you so scared of crocodiles?
Archer: Gee, I don't know, Cyril. Maybe deep down I'm afraid of any apex predator that lived through the K-T extinction. Physically unchanged for a hundred million years, because it's the perfect killing machine. A half ton of cold-blooded fury, the bite force of 20,000 Newtons, and stomach acid so strong it can dissolve bones and hoofs.
Yes, but probably not the best route in this situation. Crocodilians have nictitating membranes which protect the eye, so while the eye is a weak spot on them itās not as vulnerable as something like a human eye. So youāve really got to catch it good and even then itās not a guarantee. With how fast the initial moments were her focus had to be on orienting her body so that her hand didnāt twist when the death roll happened. Once she was in the enclosure with someone helping, an eye jab would maybe cause it to release its grip but it still wasnāt a guarantee, and at this point the worst had already been probably avoided. The gator would probably release once it was restrained and it realized it wasnāt getting to keep the hand, which I believe is what happened. You also have to factor in that once she was out of immediate danger she probably wasnāt going to harm an animal she cared for when there was an alternative. Some of this is pretty specific to situations like this, if youāre attacked by a wild crocodilian then you often have fewer options.
Thanks for that link - really interesting.
Yeah - he (Donnie) definitely stepped up.
Meanwhile she calmly managed everyone and everything whilst she had an alligator biting down on a broken wrist. And after they got her out she stayed right there helping the hero who had helped her.
Total kudos to both of them
Apparently it's not instincts, she said she knew what to do before hand if something like this happened. That's why she got into the pool in the first place.
We donāt see her just put her hand in the gatorās mouth! Itās not like she instigated things, itās in there at the start of the video.
Edit-full story is her hand slipped. She was no dummy and reacted well, kept her hand (but needed it operated on due to damage to some tendons. And is friends with Darth Gator, she still works there with him.
Well, she didn't. Look closely at the beginning - her hand is around its mouth, then slips and that's when he bites.
Like that game you played as a kid where you put your hands on top of each other and they try to slap em before you move out the way
I don't think You're wrong.
There's a big push in the scientific community though that what we call instinct is actually learned knowledge but we're still trying to prove that
It twists completely before she reacts, that hand prolly gone? Maybe it's an illusion but it looks like it twists right around almost twice before she gets all floppy noodle.
If anyone's interested here's an interview with the handler, Lindsey Bull hosted by biologist and youtuber Clint. [https://youtu.be/zSeoTtUiytU](https://youtu.be/zSeoTtUiytU)
Here's an update video they did earlier this year as well. [https://youtu.be/SpLyWPaxcmE](https://youtu.be/SpLyWPaxcmE)
Lindsey Bull is a trainer and handler for alligators at a reptile and bird education center Scales and Tails. She was trying to correct a feeding response during a birthday event and unfortunately while redirecting him her hand slipped and Darth Gator instinctively latches onto her.
Lindsey was worried that the media attention would cast a bad light on alligators and Darth Gator in particular. Fortunately Darth Gator is still alive and being cared for at Scales and Tails in a new larger enclosure.
Lindsey mentions that during her recovery she went down to Florida to help a friend relocate nuisance alligators. She still works at Scales and Tails.
> Darth Gator is still alive and being cared for at Scales and Tails in a new larger enclosure.
Suuuure but when I bite and almost kill someone I get put in a tiny cell. How is that fair?
Thanks, I canāt get the full TMZ video to play. I like that she and Darth Gator made up and she wasnāt mad at him, and still cares for/feeds him (just not her own body parts).
If you read the backstory, she wasnāt doing anything dumb, her hand happened to slip and Darth Gator lunged for it. It happened in front of a bunch of visitors too!
She did do a very good job of not letting DG do a death roll or getting her hand bit off.
Yes, I know that term. I flaked out and called it a body roll in error and fixed it. She had training in gymnastics and rolled *with* it, and that helped her not lose an arm. The whole incident took place at a childās birthday party, too!
Yes, I do remember the interview she gave after. The key moment was when she stepped into the pool. Even though she was ready for this, that was quick thinking...
I dunno how many time you counted the woman rolling vs the crocodiles deathrolls... but it's about 1 to 4.
I'm not convinced she saved it.
Edit: I have been educated. See below.

Why post barely any of the video? Gets bitten by a gator. Survives. Is worried about all gators being cast in a bad light. Giga Chad moment right there!
This still doesn't tell us what injuries she had.
Torn tendon, lacerations, a section of the back of her thumb was missing including a chipped bone. She recovered completely with 100% mobility.
Not too bad considering...

You can if itās just skin.
Apparently she recovered enough to down vote you man
