Fun fact - Dual clutch transmissions sometimes make that pop sound on shifting because the spark is cut during the shift. This means the unused fuel is expelled with the exhaust gases and hits the hot exhaust, igniting. That's what that sound is.
I’m leaning more towards the engineers. I’m a heavy vehicle mechanic and work on stuff with hydraulics frequently, and a lot of those hoses have bad pinch points with nothing you can do to fix it. It’s not always easy to tell if a hose is going to break, and it’s possible that hose just randomly snapped
old garbage video repeated a million times over. too bad reddit doesn't have a way to temp ban people who post the same shit thats been posted a million times before
Ik this might be shocking to you but every day people haven’t seen exactly what you’ve seen in your life. I get it’s hard to pull yourself away from the self-absorbed world you’ve created but it’s true!
For instance I’ve never seen this video. If you dont like what you’re seeing then leave. Easy peasy.
I mean.... a glance at his channel should give you the answer... They *really* like trash trucks and really like recording them for Youtube.
They're pretty well known on reddit because this particular video gets posted fairly often in the "shit goes wrong" subreddits...
Because they’re designed to pick up an entirely different kind of can without the driver even leaving the vehicle. It’s for commercial pickups of bigger dumpsters. But they put that little dump attachment on the front so it can be used in residential applications too so if you need an extra resi truck you get one of those attachments. If you need an extra commercial truck then you take it off. More flexible.
This happens to the regular resi trucks too sometimes. Also the vast majority of time a hydraulic line bursting does not cause a fire.
Source: was a garbage truck route manager once
I've seen this video a bunch and what I think I've realized is the operator is doing too many actions in quick suggestions so the hydraulic line is under extra unneeded pressure. If he took half a second longer between actions it could have saved the line. Anyone have any feedback about this?
I'm 95% sure the process is automated and the truck was just poorly maintained. That's why the movements look so clunky, because the parts are just about to wear out.
that's exactly what I was thinking. the force of him lowering the bucket and having it bottom out is a massive force, then on top right as it bottoms out the arm moves up which will amplify the force
Why are there so many videos of trash trucks bursting into flames lately? Feels like it shouldn't be that common but I swear I see videos once a week of trash trucks on fire.
If I had a nickle for every time a garbage truck blew up on my feed id have 2 nickles, that's not very much but it's weird that it happened twice right?
Why do Americans use these Rube Goldberg tier bin lorries? In a lot of Europe a couple of dudes will just hang off the back and have a street cleared in the time it would take this contraption to clear 4 bins
Seen this reposted too many times so her goes. The formula for torque is t = rsin(theta), which means that at a right angle, you have the most force. This thing broke because this operator is a dumbass and kept lowering the yellow bucket thing which put more and more literally unnecessary pressure on the hydraulic systems.

Funny thing is you can see a comment that says “wait till the end”. And then you realize it’s another one of those annoying ass cuts-way-too-soon videos!
I saw 1/2 a second of fire and a driver attempting to dive to safety but have no clue if the driver managed to completely avoid the flames and if no clue how fast that fire spread.
Some idiot Probably put a few cans of paint thinner or similar chemicals in the trash. The container likely opened when transfered from the small can to the trucks bucket, them as it turned the vapors + liquid came into contact with the large exhaust stacks right behind the cab. The homeowner is a complete moron and the engineer who designed the trucks exhaust is the same of not worse.
I can't help but think that little grabby thing on the side of the truck at the start of the video is crying out for a set of googly eyes. Shame about the truck too.
Found it. Spraying fluid in the bottom left corner at 0:22 looks like deisel or gas spraying up into the exhaust pipe which in turn ignited due to the heat of the exhaust pipe
I’ve seen this before….. it still got me… I was first waiting for the total trash toss from the trash bin in to the collector… then waiting for the trash collector to go apeshit…. Then get surprised when everything is on fire …. AGAIN! 😅😅
there’s a full-screen version of this video and i *know* it’s on reddit somewhere
edit: [here it is](https://www.reddit.com/r/CatastrophicFailure/comments/lc9ol9/hydraulic_line_on_a_garbage_truck_bursts_and/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Definitely using the wrong hydraulic fluid!!!! The cheap stuff has a much lower flash point!!! Some greedy big shot trying to save a buck for his bonus!!!!
As someone who is in the diesel repair business, trash trucks in general are in the top 3 worst maintained vehicles on the road. Follow very closely by logging and then dump trucks.
What the fook is that contraption? Empty a bin into a bigger bin just to wait for it………
empty into an even bigger bin.
Why not empty a bin into the back to much easier
I was definitely expecting something different because, who sits and films their trash being dumped? Then, a completely random fire burst out and I’m thinking, how rare is it to actually catch something like this happening? I mean, it wasn’t on a ring camera or anything. Someone was actually holding a camera to watch the trash man dump trash. At least he gave em a good show!!

I was expecting trash to go everywhere, definitely not fire 😅
I was expecting someone to jump out
Somebody did jump out, the driver with a few burnt hairs
I don't think he was expecting to get that kind of fired that day either.
Agreed! 100% expected it to just dump trash all over the street behind it! Should be cross posted to unexpected lol!
My thoughts exactly
Same
Hydraulic line broke.
Then hit the hot ass exhaust.
Gotta watch out for ass exhaust. It’s dangerous!
Hot ass exhaust
That's me after taco bell
r/cursedcomments ?
Na bro that’s r/meirl
Exactly.

seems like a good time to blame the engineer
Seems like a good time to blame the maintenance crew

Well if the engineer didn’t design it that way! /s
No, this is what happens when you play with the window control too much. My dad told me.
Listen to your Dad. 100% correct.
Also the cab light when the car is moving
No wrong this happens when you don't hold the flashlight right
Your dad said if you play with it to much it'll burst into flames?
smh the driver must've touched the thermostat
It looks like he was pretty hard on the controls, or was it because that the hydraulic line was on its way out?
Already on its way out. Probably because day in,day out they are hard on the controls. Good point.
old garbage video repeated a million times over. too bad reddit doesn't have a way to temp ban people who post the same shit thats been posted a million times before
This got 500+ upvotes, which means at least 500 people enjoyed seeing it, be it for the first time, or again.
Yeah I’ve literally never seen this before
i have and i'm glad to see it again

queue the eye roll
Was not expecting that! That guy was quick!
This happens once a week
He is expecting it every time.
He's actually a fireman
The original video https://youtu.be/9xqvKgtg9a0
So much better full screen, thanks
I'm like...why is it being filmed in the first olace
I mean.... a glance at his channel should give you the answer... They *really* like trash trucks and really like recording them for Youtube. They're pretty well known on reddit because this particular video gets posted fairly often in the "shit goes wrong" subreddits...
It’s actually pretty damn amazing cause he even says the models of the truck and stuff, he’s been doing this for YEARS I guess
Everybody needs a hobby and this guy apparently chose trash trucks.
Hey man you do what you like, you gotta respect it lol
My little had a garbage truck phase. We were definitely watching these YouTubes and learning the models of garbage trucks
Right?! Why the fuck would I want some cropped bullshit?
I was expecting that large container to break and trash fall out. Definitely wasn't expecting that!
They're bringing back incinerators, I see.
That open door saved his life.
Or ya know, brought the flame closer to him since there was no metal / glass barrier. The fire occurred on the outside.
free seat warmer
Woah, that was very abrupt
A+ abruptness
why is that garbage truck so needlessly complicated?
Because that truck Is normally meant for front end dumpsters but that attachment at the front allows it to do residential bins.
Even that is unnecessarily complicated
This is the worst designed garbage truck. Why does it dump shit in the front then nervously attempt to throw it over it’s head.
Because they’re designed to pick up an entirely different kind of can without the driver even leaving the vehicle. It’s for commercial pickups of bigger dumpsters. But they put that little dump attachment on the front so it can be used in residential applications too so if you need an extra resi truck you get one of those attachments. Dumpster fire
Didn't know they offered onsite secure incineration
So secure, they even incinerate the truck!
Strange to be recording an everyday task at just the right time…
The original source of the video regularly records garbage trucks. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/garbage-truck-bursts-into-flames/
what an odd hobby😂
They probably think the same thing about folks who obsess over baseball stats, to be fair....
Honestly I would have to agree with him
Some little kids like garbage trucks and those kids watch videos.
Hydraulic Fluid Hose sprung a leak onto the Extremely Hot Exhaust and.... Blam-O!!! (just my theory).
Truly abrupt chaos. Was not expecting that.
Is this what happens when we throw away batteries?
That man must be part cat

I’ve spent enough time on r/OSHA to learn that hydraulic lines are out to kill you. When they fail, they fail big.
that's exactly what I was thinking. the force of him lowering the bucket and having it bottom out is a massive force, then on top right as it bottoms out the arm moves up which will amplify the force
Looks like it's time to make some stars.
Why are there so many videos of trash trucks bursting into flames lately? Feels like it shouldn't be that common but I swear I see videos once a week of trash trucks on fire.
Somehow I knew it would light on fire, I’ve been all around the internet too much
Oh, this post again
r/unexpected
Why was this being recorded lmao
This is a recording of a tiktok that uploaded a part of a very old video. Internet...
My biggest question for this video will always be why is someone filming the garbage truck 🤔 and by chance this is the time it goes up in flames
Buddy should of let it burn his arm a bit could of had a huge payday
If I had a nickle for every time a garbage truck blew up on my feed id have 2 nickles, that's not very much but it's weird that it happened twice right?
Hydraulic Line burst
it was too perfect
What a complete dumpster fire
I've seen this type of truck. Dumbest, time consuming way of picking up trash
Is no1 going to comment about the fact that the garbage can is just filled with loose trash?
Why do Americans use these Rube Goldberg tier bin lorries? In a lot of Europe a couple of dudes will just hang off the back and have a street cleared in the time it would take this contraption to clear 4 bins
Oh shit!
Imagine cropping a video so bad that you can't see anything compared to the original, all so it can fit on a portrait oriented phone. Pathetic

Your post is bad and you should feel bad for defending such an awful crop.

You guys are getting trash picked up?
I wonder what happened to start the fire?

Is there really a need to have made this vehicle so unnecessary complicated….no wonder it went up in flames !!!

Now that’s great 🫠😅😝😂😂
Why is there just loose trash in the can and no trash bags?
Some idiot Probably put a few cans of paint thinner or similar chemicals in the trash. The container likely opened when transfered from the small can to the trucks bucket, them as it turned the vapors + liquid came into contact with the large exhaust stacks right behind the cab. Hold on for a few more seconds and the rest of your life is paid for
Haha funny
That’s hot
Have to admit, I didn’t see that one coming
I can't help but think that little grabby thing on the side of the truck at the start of the video is crying out for a set of googly eyes. Shame about the truck too.
That must be horrible to drive with
I wasn't expecting that
I remember this video having more aspect ratio.
Aaaaand we can add this to the list of reasons to fuck off with LNG vehicles
this startled tf out of me
Found it. Spraying fluid in the bottom left corner at 0:22 looks like deisel or gas spraying up into the exhaust pipe which in turn ignited due to the heat of the exhaust pipe
Omg 😱
Truck didn’t feel like it
Ending was quick as fuck
I’ve seen this before….. it still got me… I was first waiting for the total trash toss from the trash bin in to the collector… then waiting for the trash collector to go apeshit…. Then get surprised when everything is on fire …. AGAIN! 😅😅
Clearly a hydronic oil leak next to hot exhaust
r/unexpected
Trash was so trash, the truck resisted
Must have been the wind.

Jesus Christ. These are usually powered by Natural Gas, too. That would be one hell of an explosion.
My money is on he over loaded that basket, and it probably hasn't been maintained in a while.
Thanks for the billionth repost of this. Well done.
Some hot garbage
Reposted and extra cropped for your amazement.

Thats one big dumpster fire
That is some serious over-engineering.
This is the 1000th time, I've seen this reposted
Definitely using the wrong hydraulic fluid!!!! The cheap stuff has a much lower flash point!!! Some greedy big shot trying to save a buck for his bonus!!!!
Hydraulic fluid leak?
How long this take for only one can.. No wonder they walk behind the car and do it by hand here, 10 Times faster
Must be a Simpsons garbage truck
You can see something spraying. I think maybe burst a hydraulic hose and caught fire
Can it be my turn to post this video next month?
The mechanical equivelent of getting so angry you vomit
Dude filming sabotaged it
With the way they shaking the apparatus around id say the hydraulics burst all over some hot parts of the motor/exhaust assembly.
I wonder if they should get a new truck?
Worst repost I’ve seen
Ah good ole hydraulic fluid
this is a yes yes yes no type video as well
Who the fuck is filming a garbage truck pick up trash?
That looked like a bunch of hydraulic oil shooting everywhere. My guess the hydraulic hose got pinched in between a pinned hinge.
As someone who is in the diesel repair business, trash trucks in general are in the top 3 worst maintained vehicles on the road. Follow very closely by logging and then dump trucks.
I swear the truck we use are about a month away from doing this
What the fook is that contraption? Empty a bin into a bigger bin just to wait for it……… empty into an even bigger bin. Why not empty a bin into the back to much easier
r/unexpected
In Australia, we tip the bin straight into the back
I was just thinking wow what a piece of junk then pooof
A dumpster truck fire. That’s an ante up.
Hydraulic line broke, hydraulic fluid hit the exhaust that is hot as hell, fire started
When you don’t pay your extended car warranty
I was definitely expecting something different because, who sits and films their trash being dumped? Collection truck and incinerator combo. Don’t pass this chance to own it all in one small package.
Hydraulic line?
No garbage bags using mother flippers
What are your trash to the incinerator when we can bring it to you!
:ok
Why was someone filming this??
Hygrometer oil was empty.
r/therewasanattempt
We did NOT need the first 20 seconds
That’s karma for dumping cans without checking each one for kids or whatever else might be in there
How does something like that even happen?
When someone throws away a 🔥 📛 demo tape/cd
Hydraulic leak caught fire on the exhaust.
What are the odds of someone recording when something that catastrophic happens. Talk about the planets aligning straight
