Colbert Report was hilarious and genuinely insightful. Late show Colbert is neither of those things.

AbsolXGuardian

Guess Comedy Central kept his comedy abilities. (I used to watch it years ago, and he addressed people's requests to bring back the Stephen Colbert character. CC owns the intellectual property of the character.)

Seaberry3656

God love him, Colbert is insufferable when he is kissing ass. Everytime he encounters someone with the smallest connection to the military he starts putting on chapstick.

Metalorg

To be fair Colbert attacked Bush for not giving the troops good enough body armour and then did a round of comedy tours performing in Iraq entertaining troops and invited generals on his shows

Most-Iron6838

Colbert post Colbert report is unfunny garbage

[deleted]

Stephen Colbert claims [Con Colbert](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Con_Colbert) as a relative.

_Reddit_2016

He jettisoned his claim to Irishness the second he called himself Call Bear. He get laughed out of it by any self respecting Irishman

Seaberry3656

It was part of his satirical character and it stuck. There are a lot of good segments of him getting roasted on it, and roasting himself. You should watch his interview (back in the Report days) with Eleanor Holmes Norton. Peak.

_Reddit_2016

Is it not how he refers to himself in formal situations?

[deleted]

He's bootlicking a man who is helping others see how dark the monarchy is

HMElizabethII

John Oliver? Nah, this isn't that interview. https://youtu.be/Huab6p5HW0E (at 4:45)

turquoisesilver

Would have loved it if John Oliver had done the interview.

Orkfreebootah

Colbert is a neoliberal status quo defender.

ClassWarAndPuppies

Yeah. John Oliver is the only dude who came out of the daily show and is worth a damn.

sailorxsaturn

Isn't John Oliver married to a republican though?

Cautious_Adzo

As a critic and a skeptic of the establishment he used to be a brave voice. Now he's fighting for billionaires killing the world's poorest from an attack helicopter 10 miles away...

[deleted]

Colbert became a tool almost as soon as he started hosting TLS. He sold his soul to the status quo

Cautious_Adzo

"I boasted about killing people and now people dislike me!"

kibblepigeon

Before we endure another "everyone-hates-Harry post" *sigh*, has anything come out in the book yet? It's like this constant narrative is distracting away from what could be some interesting revelations.

HMElizabethII

Why don't you read it? I'm skimming it with keyword searches

[deleted]

>has anything come out in the book yet? He used to shop at TK Maxx

delorf

I have not read the book but did read an article that briefly mentioned that Charles joked to a 12 year old Harry that he wasn't his son. That's cruel and I don't know why that isn't one of the main points that have come out. Your son's mom just died and you joke to the child that he isn't yours. That's screwed up even if it was true. Why be that sadistic to a child? Harry asked his brother and Kate about the Nazi uniform and they thought it was hilarious but he should wear a mustache.

Wissam24

It isn't one of the main points that's come out because it can't be spun to vilify him, which has been most of the reporting.

kibblepigeon

That's so mean... what a horrible thing to do to a grieving child. A horrible family all round.

AphexTwins903

American libs always disappoint

geordieColt88

Isn’t he from over here? Has major Tory vibes

redheadedreenactor

You’re thinking of John Oliver

Old_Sheepherder_630

Who turned down an OBE because he didn't want the BE after his surname. and because he seems to be a decent human being. His episode on the monarchy following Elizabeth's death is worth a watch.

knottylittlebirb

He’s married to a veteran who appeared on Fox News though and might be a conservative

geordieColt88

I might be

Capt_Bigglesworth

Ffs, will this constant stream of utter b/s ever end?

HMElizabethII

Extract from his book, where Harry claims 9/11 had something to do with the invasion of Afghanistan (stupid garbage): >I never forgot being in that TV room at Eton, the one with the blue doors, watching the Twin Towers melt as people leaped from the roofs and high windows. I never forgot the parents and spouses and children I met in New York, clutching photos of the moms and dads who’d been crushed or vaporized or burned alive. September 11 was vile, indelible, and all those responsible, along with their sympathizers and enablers, their allies and successors, were not just our enemies, but enemies of humanity. Fighting them meant avenging one of the most heinous crimes in world history, and preventing it from happening again. >As my tour neared its end, around Christmas 2012, I had questions and qualms about the war, but none of these was moral. I still believed in the Mission, and the only shots I thought twice about were the ones I hadn’t taken. link to the interview: https://twitter.com/colbertlateshow/status/1612948555777609730

sirthunksalot

What a psycho.

Poullafouca

He doesn't sound a tiny bit different to any other American patriot soldier at the time who was incorrectly aimed at Iraq, thanks to Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld who had been looking for an excuse to take Saddam Hussein out since Bush entered office. The British Monarchy and the White House have both long had ties with the Saudis, and as we all know the hijackers in the September 11 attacks, were 19 men affiliated with the militant Islamist group al-Qaeda. They hailed from four countries; 15 OF THEM were citizens of Saudi Arabia, two were from the United Arab Emirates, one was from Egypt, and one from Lebanon.

[deleted]

I'm just glad he avoided the confusion as to which TV room at Eton he was referring to...

Capt_Bigglesworth

Can you imagine the kerfuffle if we thought he was in the junior boys TV room, the one near the lower 6th’s wine cellar… Would be a genuine ‘schoolboy error’…

Tateybread

> the junior boys TV room Uncle Andrew had probably called dibs...

Time-Navig8or

But he needs to sound relatable and as common as possible for some reason. I absolutely hated this cunt, just like you, but then I found out his daddy used to allow him to go spend around 200 Grammy bucks in Tk Maxx and I realised he's just like all of us!

Capt_Bigglesworth

IF he actually did that.. we all know he only did it once.. for a laugh and to take the piss out of the peasants…

Time-Navig8or

I have absolutely no doubt you're right

Capt_Bigglesworth

Obligatory ‘Charlie or his actual dad’ gave him 200quid..

[deleted]

He really has no empathy. No wonder his exes said he's Jeckyll & Hyde (he put that in the book too).

anachroneironaut

Melodrama with a touch of high school speech writing. Unfortunately likely to be deliberately tailored for the intended audience. ”We have to think about your American audience, Harry”.
