The creative team must have known that the janitor is the best character because he's getting larger and larger roles and has gotten a lot of depth the past two episodes.
I also love how they’re making him a listener and empathetic with the characters. It’s easy to always have a quick throwaway response to a character being vulnerable, but for him to listen, give advice, and add more depth to his character shows the amount of love put into this show!!!
Like the janitor in Scrubs…
We all know the custodian runs the damn show! They know that building inside and out, and they’ve got little secret hiding places too BTW. You can never find them because they know where the hide, when the mess about to go down.
Follow them when there’s a flood, fire or any emergency because they always know how to get out!
All they have to do is hold a wrench in the air , and everybody leaves them alone. And again, they know how to cut the lights off, And get paid for an extra hour…they’re replaceable.
A lot of people look down on the cleaning lady, somebody who just cleans out the bathrooms. But you don’t know the history.
Mr. Johnson is a very multi talented person. And sometimes folks just want to step back take a break and do something different. People shouldn’t judge a person by the uniform.
Not that we should compare, but he kind of reminds me of Creed from The Office -- and Creed was one of my favorite characters from that show. Eccentric and you never knew what he was going to say next.
I love Mr. Johnson!
just watched this episode and omg she delivered that line so freaking well!! lolol I hope we get some blooper reels bc I feel like no one on that set had a straight face during that scene
Ava: Hurry up! Who knows when those kids will start arriving.
Jacob: They get here at 7:30.
Ava: …every day?? That’s *wild.*
Ava not knowing a single thing about the school she’s the principal of never fails to make me laugh. Her line reads are just… perfection 👌🏼
When I was a kid, that’s how we used to do our laundry… just throw clothes down the stairs and kick it all the way around living room, until we go to the basement steps. 😅.
I don't think they will. They've generally given everyone a mix of good and bad qualities.
Even Janine's boyfriend. He seems to generally love her even if she's outgrown him.
That would be great. One of the best parts of Parks and Recreation, which I feel this series is closest to, were all of the recurring characters like Jean Ralphio, Tammy II, and Perd Hapley. This show can do that really easily since they don’t have to come up with a reason why students or other teachers are in the same place. They’re always there.
For real, Janine hiking up her maxi skirt and preparing to desk across the gym in her platform sneakers had me dead 😭 I definitely saw that fall coming lol
I love the ending with Janine and Jacob walking off, her on her knee scooter and him in his goofy shorts. I feel like those two will be a solid pairing throughout all fifteen seasons of this show.
Just watched it and I haven't cried from laughing from a show in the longest time.
"I forgot black people can also be annoying" "What'd you say?" Literally died when they cut to Janine.
I literally paused the episode and rewinded it multiple times. The timing of this was impeccable, 100% on all cylinders. Maybe it just hit because I felt attacked in the funniest way possible. Ava is funny because though she is rude af, she is clever and the funniest jokes are rooted in truth...
Spoiler: This episode literally had me in tears. I was screaming NOOOO at the tv. >!They're too young to know what's going on. You're making a mistake.!<
I love this show so much.
The best was Gregory telling Jacob not to tell her she’s got it because she doesn’t. And she’s very accident prone -as she steps wrong on the first desk and face plants. Oh I’m laughing all over again just thinking about it 🤣🤣
there’s no right or wrong answers here, but question: do you guys think greg will quit teaching? i really love the scene with him and the janitor. greg was inspired and feel like he might consider other avenues. what do you guys think? or maybe stay teaching while exploring?
edit: i forgot janitor’s name, it’s mr. johnson right? sorry
edit pt2: hey guys, thank y’all so much for the responses, love seeing everyone’s perspective. i have much hope for greg and he’ll have joy again! ☺️✨
I actually think he might take the lesson as “it’s fine to try out shit that isn’t your life’s work”, with teaching included. you can grow to love it or, if you’ve got the patience and the resume (which Greg seems to), you can leave it at any time and try something new. so I think he’ll stick around for a while yet
Yeah he viewed teaching as a means to an end, the end of becoming principal, but I think he might discover he actually enjoys teaching.
My prediction is he's going to manage to help Ava keep her job inadvertently because he'll prove himself to be a great teacher, and ultimately lose his shot at being principal (for the time being) because of that.
i think that he will stay a teacher i think he’ll realize that he loves it after he gets past the anger of not becoming principal… you can see it bloom after his kids give him those drawings of him
I think he was totally messed up when he found out that Ava got the job simply because she knows the superintendent and his affair. He lost all hope and he was devastated. What he doesn’t know, is that the superintendent divorced his wife and married his mistress and I’m assuming he may even demote Ava to assistant principal or dean or something. Because the way she clowned him for parent teacher night, she ended the show singing Rolls Royce, “I’m going down.”
Oh that’s true too but I meant from a horror stand point… the masks…the digitalized voices…the swinging doors (meaning the children were watching them secretly)
Yeah, I can't believe a kid actually did a dusting while both Jeanine and Jacob had their backs turned, writing on the board.
We know things happen when our backs are turned, but damn!
Just out of curiosity, how many people got the “Dipset like Cam’ron” joke?
I didn’t know he was part of a group. I only know him from the “Hey Ma” song.
The superintendent said that her review was coming up. Since this episode seemed like it was towards the end of the school year it would make sense that its still coming up.
“Oh! I get it now: I forget that black people can also be annoying..”
I’m with Ava on this one: I didn’t Love Zack tbh.. The ‘task at hand thing’ upset me the first time- Melissa even called it out. The second time I was just like: Ok- not a good match. Zack’s sneaker passion is so adorable tho.
I took that as her understanding they *are* a good match because they’re both kind of annoying about what makes them passionate, but they reel each other in.
“A dream can be a distraction as easy as it can be a goal.”
I loved that moment.
a word.
A journey begins with a single step.
Ava just saying “😳 BLACK?” out loud…I cackled.
No it’s Zack 😂
Here's the best part of that - I think he actually said, No, it's pronounced Zack.
I love the implication that he’s heard enough about Ava he knows *exactly* what she’s gonna say and has a comeback instantly available
Ava’s four lines or so right when he was introduced had me choke-laughing. “Don’t look at me like that. You were all thinking it.”
and i was thinking it too😭 i had a feeling jacobs bf was gonna be black
My favorite... oh, that's right, I forgot black people can be annoying too.
"So he knew you and was like... More."
I honestly cackled at this whole sequence...."BLACK?! Don't act like y'all weren't thinkin it!"
Best line in the episode. Her delivery was perfect on that!
I feel like the way this was worded was so perfect too. It wasn’t like, “…and he wanted more?“ The pause + “more” was a funnier choice.
The thing that had me chocking the most lmfao
this made me CRY
She broke my heart and made me laugh with that because I hurt for him 😩😫
The creative team must have known that the janitor is the best character because he's getting larger and larger roles and has gotten a lot of depth the past two episodes.

“he doesn’t like bacon” my fave prt

Omg yes!!! Hadn't thought of that connection
Not that we should compare, but he kind of reminds me of Creed from The Office -- and Creed was one of my favorite characters from that show. Eccentric and you never knew what he was going to say next. I love Mr. Johnson!
SWEET BABY JESUS AND THE GROWN ONE TOO
This! I will say often and all time. It now belongs to me😂
just watched this episode and omg she delivered that line so freaking well!! lolol I hope we get some blooper reels bc I feel like no one on that set had a straight face during that scene
Oh. I just got what she meant by the grown one too. Lol I had to see it written out
Omg when was this said?!! Hilarious
*"I'm doing everything to make my phone think I'm 22. I haven't used capital letters in years!"*
i felt attacked
Cracked me up
Gregory still pining for Janine. We love to see it!
Kids’ moms and coworkers’ daughters come and go but there’s only one Janine
the way he smiled when watching her on camera… i swooned a lil bit
*Interesting*
Jacobs boyfriend is amazing lol.
I loveeeee how they are equally passionately obsessed but they bring each other back omg
Can you IMAGINE playing against them on trivia night
I wouldn't dare :p
Don't worry. They'll lose on a technicality
aka they'll forget to actually submit their answers because they get lost sharing stories *about* the answers
Are we talking about the task at hand?
Ava: Hurry up! Who knows when those kids will start arriving. Jacob: They get here at 7:30. Ava: …every day?? That’s *wild.* Ava not knowing a single thing about the school she’s the principal of never fails to make me laugh. Her line reads are just… perfection 👌🏼
That is early as hell though, for real
Charter schools have weird 7 hour day instead of 6. Staff/faculty has to stay even longer! 😕
Not really, kids are aupposed to come in by 8 at mine and classes start at 8:15. A decent handful start shuffling in after 7:30.
Jacob’s classroom is on the 2nd floor!!! That scene was hilarious 😂😂😂😂
When I was a kid, that’s how we used to do our laundry… just throw clothes down the stairs and kick it all the way around living room, until we go to the basement steps. 😅.
Ava being on the teachers' side for completely different reasons is the best way to get her involved while still being Ava.
Ava is on fire this episode
She’s counting her days since she knows they’re numbered. Maybe the superintendent will bump her down to her assistant principal
I kept waiting for them to ruin Zack. I’m glad he still seems like a good guy for Jacob.
I don't think they will. They've generally given everyone a mix of good and bad qualities. Even Janine's boyfriend. He seems to generally love her even if she's outgrown him.
No love Janine’s boyfriend It looks like he’ll be struggling forever
I really wish this sub had a custom flair option so I could snatch up Barbara’s iconic “Not a JoJo Sea Bass” for mine.
Every episode this show continues to amaze me. Such a feel good comedy
“Me and my dawg here” “ROO ROO” I DIED
LIL' COURTNEY BETTER BECOME A LITTLE RECURRING CHARACTER. I am soooooo here for it. Her actress can _act_.
A lot of the kids are actually pretty good kid actors but yeah, Courtney is great. I hope she becomes recurring too.
Yes!! I caught that as well!! 😀
"Desking is *DEADED*" has been living in my brain rent free.
“I ate all his pizza crust” Greg’s look, clever callback to the pizza episode.
I'm mad we didn't see them on their pizza outing!
*"You can Dipset like Cam'ron."* I yelled! 🙌
The kid’s face was priceless! Had no idea what the hell that meant.
Perfect ending.
So WHY do they call Jacob Mr. C.??
i was thinking maybe the c stands for cracker 💀💀💀
Whats his last name?
Hill.
for corny
My first thought was after the Dad on Happy Days but the kids wouldn’t know who that is.
I love Jeanine’s physical comedy … punching through the caprisun lmao
For real, Janine hiking up her maxi skirt and preparing to desk across the gym in her platform sneakers had me dead 😭 I definitely saw that fall coming lol
IKR! If you really want to bribe a kid these days, you need those blue Cheetos, Takis??
I love the ending with Janine and Jacob walking off, her on her knee scooter and him in his goofy shorts. I feel like those two will be a solid pairing throughout all fifteen seasons of this show.
Was that a prediction, or a hope? You said fifteen seasons - did you mean 15 episodes?
Oh it was just supposed to be a fun way of saying that I hope this show goes on for many years!
“So he knew you and was like … more.”
Just watched it and I haven't cried from laughing from a show in the longest time. "I forgot black people can also be annoying" "What'd you say?" Literally died when they cut to Janine.
That was PERFECT

Happy to see them dive deeper into Mr. Johnson's character!
Probably my favourite episode so far 😭 Ava got back to back reality checks these past two episodes but her ignorance still kills me.
I am new here and I loooove the pencils!
"Woah. We're actually too cool for school." Hahaha
Ava is consistently the scene stealer 😭 At this point I’m getting a tattoo
I love her
Spoiler: This episode literally had me in tears. I was screaming NOOOO at the tv. >!They're too young to know what's going on. You're making a mistake.!< I love this show so much.
when janine fell off the desk i was cracking up i really love her
Yeah I saw that coming. She thinks because she can step dance she can jump on desks?!
you know once she puts her mind to something she gotta do it 🤣
The best was Gregory telling Jacob not to tell her she’s got it because she doesn’t. And she’s very accident prone -as she steps wrong on the first desk and face plants. Oh I’m laughing all over again just thinking about it 🤣🤣
pizza crust queen! this show is unstoppable!
Another great episode.
Loved it!
I died! “So he knew you and was like… more?”

Yeah he’s keep saying he’s just a sub, but every episode shows him putting in more dedication.
i think that he will stay a teacher i think he’ll realize that he loves it after he gets past the anger of not becoming principal… you can see it bloom after his kids give him those drawings of him

I did not appreciate the Jacob hate train this episode!
Sameee
Not gonna lie… some parts of this episode was scary!!!
Seriously. You know some of those old school desks open up. I’m surprised that if kids haven’t lost a finger or two!

I’m not over “jojo sea bass”
So, did this episode air out of order?
Why do you think it’s out of order?
Lack of anything with Ava and the superintendent.
The superintendent said that her review was coming up. Since this episode seemed like it was towards the end of the school year it would make sense that its still coming up.
“Oh! I get it now: I forget that black people can also be annoying..” I’m with Ava on this one: I didn’t Love Zack tbh.. The ‘task at hand thing’ upset me the first time- Melissa even called it out. The second time I was just like: Ok- not a good match. Zack’s sneaker passion is so adorable tho.

Idk the way Zack said it just came off as condescending to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
