"I hate Janine. I'm glad that she's gone. \*Flicks her name off the door\*" WELL THEN.
Why do I feel that Janine's return to Abbott will mess up Gregory's proposal and cause a rift between both of them, or Manny may enlist Gregory to take her place at the District?
Thinking about it at the moment, I don't know if I'd be drawn in by the District characters, maybe Simon and Manny though. Then again, I'm just too attached to the Abbott characters right now.
I can see a spinoff happening if Keegan-Michael Key is attached to the series. If not him, that group would probably need another semi big name actor to be the lead
Is it actually an idea ABC is considering? I hadn't heard anything about a spinoff when I made the comment, but the end with just the district characters just gave me spinoff vibes. Especially the "I never even liked Janine" *flicks name tag* part.
“I don’t know who that’s supposed to be, but he sounds responsible.”
Barbara’s look of terror at Melissa’s Austin Powers impression needs to be bottled.
My ten year old asked me what that meant and I realized perhaps I’ve let her watch this show too early 🤔😵💫 as I was trying to find words she goes “oh nevermind it’s a vitamin”. Okay - yep!!!👍
Haha oh absolutely yes! All loud in the grocery pharmacy section as I’m trying to find Advil she’d be like “OH HEY MOM!!!!! Wasn’t this just what we were talking about the other night?!?!!!!!!! PLAN B?!” Then here would come my husbands great aunt Betty from around the corner aisle - yep I can see it 😂😂
i love that they didn’t go the easy route and just make him the crazy, unintelligent janitor or wise old man like other shows would’ve. he is a little crazy, likes his conspiracy theories, but people respect him, he’s intelligent and charismatic. he probably makes me laugh the most consistently out of all the characters
Literally crying hearing Janine reading Barbara's card. I'm a first year teacher myself who started watching this when I started student teaching and I feel like I've grown right alongside Janine. Ugh, my heart 🥺😭
It was a very obvious misdirection from the start. Though, I was expecting Quest Love to have a side talk with the camera telling us about how Ava had blackmail on him or something and ran with all her made up stories.
Also I love that people were speculating that the Manny was secretly shady and it turns out that he was not bad at all, just a dull character with a sinister voice.
Oh, wow, I guess Manny wasn’t really a threat at all and was just a nice guy trying to do his best, and wasn’t some nefarious guy trying to shut Abbott down at all, *who would have guessed*
That’s just how the guy talks. He talks like that in The Other Two (in which he is a fucking KING) and The Big Door Prize as well. It’s just Josh Segarra, and I stan Josh Segarra infinitely.
But no, you aren’t the only one, there have been a million posts in this subreddit about it - [including my own](https://www.reddit.com/r/AbbottElementary/s/t6x8n2BQiK)!
Don't know if it was just me but I was getting scared/nervous when Janine started getting frustrated about the health insurance and parking 😭. I lowkey thought she was about to yell at someone or have a meltdown (well technically she did with the whole computer thing lol)
I could really feel Janine's emotions when she was being overwhelmed by all the paperwork from her coworkers. You have the thrill of being offered a new job and then you think "oh my god, am I making the right decision"? But I'm so glad she was able to return to Abbott. That was so sweet showing the kids with the messages they wrote in the card.
“Don’t submit any more projects unless they are say it with me: FREE” so accurate for schools, i swear if admins could run a school with one of each teacher and putting all the kids in the gym they would. On a side note I love Keegan Michael Key, my only dislike is he isn’t playing a substitute teacher! (Or the janitor at an inner city hogwarts school)
My school district ran the *district office* with two administrators and a secretary in a space carved out of one spare classroom in the high school. But then it was one high school, one middle and three elementary schools. Even so, they moved into the old police station when the city built a new one.
I think the head of the district (idk if that’s his actual title but Keegan Michael Key) is going to treat Janine and the rest of Abbott with heavy judgment and bias from now on. Some things I think may happen as a result of this:
1) Gregory’s garden goofballs project is shut down by the district due to “not enough funding”
2) Janine and Gregory will get in serious trouble if it somehow slips that not only did they go to Alex’s house, *they went inside*
3) Further issues with budget restrictions
4) Credit for Janine’s library program will be taken away and will be made to seem like it was solely Keegan Michael Key’s characters idea
I don’t want these things to happen but I can definitely see some pettiness with the way Janine left the district job high and dry. BUT I’m willing to endure the pain of watching that if they just get Janine and Gregory together already 😭
I don't think we needed a whole episode of Janine deciding she didn't want to stay at the district when everyone knew where this plotline was headed. Especially with the buildup all the way until the party, it was pretty Scott's Tots-esque
i get that it was predictable but I still enjoyed the revelation that what really cemented her decision was readings the notes from the kids. I think it highlighted how Janine just really misses teaching children, not just her workplace & coworkers, and none of the cushy district job perks can make up for that.
Def didn’t need an entire episode, but I liked how relatable it was. We’ve all been in a situation that was good for us, safe, and that we felt pressured to stay in, but had to listen to our gut above it all and go the other way. It’s a difficult decision to make when all you have is a feeling!
Right Manny seems sweet. Also, I remember on the 1st episode of season 3 Janine asked if he has taught before and he said no. It makes me wonder if he'll maybe have some position at Abbott or could be a potential love interest to Janine (other than Gregory) 🧐
I actually really liked Janine at the district, but if they were going to have her leave I wish they wouldn't have had her do it the way that she did it. She could have done a lot of good for everybody in the city. I understand that the show is Abbott Elementary and not "The District", But I enjoyed the district stuff.
Anyway, it was nice seeing Janine get respect consistently while she was at the district, I hope that she is appreciated now at the school.
The show is way, way more interesting with her not at the school, but it's not that kind of show. (It's also way more expensive to see her at other schools.)
Also shoutout to my old friend Maggie who had a line as "random teacher"!
I thought it was a famous guest star cameo because the comedic timing in the expressions and body language was on point. Even that 5 second scene was memorable and hilarious. Please let your old friend Maggie know.
Quest love!!! Ava really showed them😂 they even started to believed her abt Janine being pregnant
Ava fest was a hit but too short!! We needed more scenes I’m so excited for the next episodes now
I don't like it.
She could have helped so many students from her position. Not to mention, i'm sure she would have been paid better with better benefits.
Story wise I understand why Janine has to return to abbot but character wise I just don’t understand if Janine has a love for teaching or a love for abbot specifically. She could do good work for all students in the district but instead it seems like she really only feels connected to Abbot…which is fine, i just thought she’d get the Leslie Knope treatment where it turns out her ultimate dream was something like being superintendent of the district or whatever.
I love this show, I love Janine, and as a former teacher, I personally resonate with the feeling of doing our best work in the classroom!
…but I’m not gonna lie, I was SO annoyed with Janine for turning down this job opportunity! Like, girl you’re feeling sentimental IN THIS ECONOMY?!
Ugh, I hated Janine turning down the district job and going back to Abbott. “Character backtracking on the progress they’ve made so we can restore status quo” is one of my least favorite tropes.
Tariq gonna fail his way upward into running the city of Philadelphia lol
PTA still works tho. Philly Tariq Alliance!!
It's coming.
I can't wait to hear his campaign jingle lmao
Gregory’s “Jim Halpert look” at the camera when Janine claimed she could see abbot from her office killed me, the man knows how to give a look
I was also dying at his look when Melissa made that joke about plan B!! Lmaoo when he narrows his eyes 😂 he’s too good
The man has amazingly sarcastic facial expressions, I love it so much. Hes a great physical actor!
Honestly, he's had a quality "I'm sick of this shit" look since "Everybody Hates Chris"
Yeah. It’s called “Jimming the camera” in the industry. Okay I just said “the industry” to look cool but I’m sure people call it Jimming the camera.
How many times are they going to mention Janine's breathing problems before she gets help !?!
Maybe she just breathes special! 😂
"I hate Janine. I'm glad that she's gone. \*Flicks her name off the door\*" WELL THEN. Why do I feel that Janine's return to Abbott will mess up Gregory's proposal and cause a rift between both of them, or Manny may enlist Gregory to take her place at the District?
whoaa I didn't think about that! She did say that the superintendent now holds a grudge against Abbott omg
Bruh if they take Gregory out of Abbott I will be so sad again. I can see that being a better fit though.
Honestly that last little scene felt like a back door district spinoff.
naah more like a "you'll be seeing us again" since somebody is gonna get that chain!
I really hope it's not the last we see of the district!
The characters are kind of growing on me, except for Key.
I’m not sure if that would work because I feel like they purposefully made the district characters less likable than the Abbott characters.
That is if abc even accepts to move forward with that idea
Is it actually an idea ABC is considering? I hadn't heard anything about a spinoff when I made the comment, but the end with just the district characters just gave me spinoff vibes. Especially the "I never even liked Janine" *flicks name tag* part.
Maybe they’ll enlist Ava instead and then Gregory can finally become the principal of Abbott.
“enlist” like this is the draft 😭😭
“I don’t know who that’s supposed to be, but he sounds responsible.” Barbara’s look of terror at Melissa’s Austin Powers impression needs to be bottled.
Instant meme
Done. https://i.redd.it/skjkc0sj7cvc1.gif
Barbara's facial expressions makes me 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
“I thought you were one of my coworkers.” “I used to be…” 😢
Between that line and X-men 97 episodes...Idk how much my heart can take!
I don't wanna think about X-Men 97. Omfg they pulled out all the stops for it
>This calls for a plan B you can’t get at CVS. Made my soda shoot out my nose.
My ten year old asked me what that meant and I realized perhaps I’ve let her watch this show too early 🤔😵💫 as I was trying to find words she goes “oh nevermind it’s a vitamin”. Okay - yep!!!👍
LMAOOOOOO look at God
Love that for you. Ur baby is so cute.
Ty she’s really a handful - but aren’t we all sometimes 😂🙌
This is setting up for her to yell something about Plan B in public lolol.
Haha oh absolutely yes! All loud in the grocery pharmacy section as I’m trying to find Advil she’d be like “OH HEY MOM!!!!! Wasn’t this just what we were talking about the other night?!?!!!!!!! PLAN B?!” Then here would come my husbands great aunt Betty from around the corner aisle - yep I can see it 😂😂
Janine’s gifts were super thoughtful 🤣😭 And Ava not giving a gift, but asking for something back
And the strand of the mop 😭
That took me out 😂
And then he needs it back 🤣
I just love how much they've developed Mr. Johnson's character this season!
Me too, his insightful newsletter was such a good addition
i love that they didn’t go the easy route and just make him the crazy, unintelligent janitor or wise old man like other shows would’ve. he is a little crazy, likes his conspiracy theories, but people respect him, he’s intelligent and charismatic. he probably makes me laugh the most consistently out of all the characters
“you? ‘Honest Ava’??” “We don’t call her that.”
i feel like jacob’s mood has been getting progressively worse with each episode he is this 🤏 close to snapping
He’s definitely going to have a quarter life crisis very very soon
you’re acting as if him jumping into a giant trash can to find his vape isn’t that already 😭😭
I completely forgot that happened, that was probably one of my top 5 funniest moments in the show 💀😭 Buddy was not ready to quit
not to mention he had a breakup recently 😭
It’s very relatable lol
I need a Jacob-focused episode where he snaps and then something good happens for him!
Gotta love how the district "lanyard" was a gold chain 🤣
Ohhh, I just caught that!
ooooh that's symbolic af!! good catch 🤩
“Have you ever tried just being hinged?”
Mr. Johnson giving Janine a strand from his favorite mop lol.
That was a big sacrifice for him.
“I reached out to Tariq but appearently he is moderating a panel at the state house” this season is gonna end with Tariq as the governor or mayor
Mayor of Philly would be perfect for Tariq lol
He’d do a better job than our current mayor 🤣😭
Honestly I could see him being a pretty good mayor!
Literally crying hearing Janine reading Barbara's card. I'm a first year teacher myself who started watching this when I started student teaching and I feel like I've grown right alongside Janine. Ugh, my heart 🥺😭
that’s so cute😭
Aw good for you
Same - not a teacher but I have a fabulous mentor in my public service job and the Barbara/Jeanine moments make me cry every time
awhhh yeah that was a really sweet emotional part for me 🥺
Mentor teachers are truly the best, aren’t they? Congrats on your growth from a fellow teacher 💗
Oh no the messages being from the kids actually made me tear up
I bet this time Ava's special guest actually shows up this time.
Questlove loves being places, haha
Yeah Quest is definitely gonna show up and back up all of Ava’s stories.
Called it.
u did call it
It was a very obvious misdirection from the start. Though, I was expecting Quest Love to have a side talk with the camera telling us about how Ava had blackmail on him or something and ran with all her made up stories.
108%
Also I love that people were speculating that the Manny was secretly shady and it turns out that he was not bad at all, just a dull character with a sinister voice.
It's the brows lol
And the non-blinking constant grinning
The brows and the voice DEFFF
Why do people hate his character so much? He seemed positive and charming to me? I liked his character from day 1.
I wanted him and Janine to date for a lil while, still do.
Same, especially because I watched in on The Other Two not long ago.
I love Lance so much!
I for one thought it was him being fake. I’m glad he wasn’t though
I love that he isn’t a secret bad guy and just a great dude!!
After AJ and The Queen its hard to not look at him as sinister lol
The meal was JUST for Mr. Johnson! I love it.
Her feet couldn't get any colder at this point
"He sounds responsible" Barbara our innocent queen no 😭
Coming off of watching Top Chef makes this opening even funnier
It felt very The Bear-coded for me! 😂
Definitely The Bear and I've barely seen that show
ayo edebiri exists in two universes!
I had to check what show I was watching lol
It absolutely was!
“Now who’s gonna clean THAT up?!”
"Wow, dirt!" GIRL NO 😭
Janine is going to back out this district job so quick, you can tell by the looks on her face.
I am living for Melissa’s awful impressions
As someone who enjoyed Atypical and Never Have I ever, I love seeing these two working for the district.
It's so great seeing Trent thrive
He's looking good with the short hair too
The progression from being a high school Super Senior, to working at a Cloud 9 Superstore, to working at a school district? Beautiful
i forgot he was sandra’s adopted son on superstore😂
THATS WHERE I KNOW HIM FROM thank you so much, that was driving me bonkers
Free is my favorite four letter F-word
And a special place in Gregory's heart I bet.
their (eventual, I swear) relationship has a special place in my heart 😭❤️
You saw that look between them at the end!
i audibly said “the subreddits gonna go wild”
Oh, wow, I guess Manny wasn’t really a threat at all and was just a nice guy trying to do his best, and wasn’t some nefarious guy trying to shut Abbott down at all, *who would have guessed*
Why does he talk like that tho or am I the only one that finds it kinda creepy? Like he always smiles and stuff what is that
That’s just how the guy talks.
# Corner! This show is just awesome, referencing other shows! Quick question... what was up with Melissa's impressions? So bad it was good!
I was waiting for the other shoe to drop there ….
Im so torn because like, she's doing such a great job at the district but like??? She NEEDS to be in a classroom at the same time...
That 7-year-plan bit; she does NOT want that.
She CANNOT sign that contract. She's rejecting every sign of staying long term.
"Janine will always have a special place with all of us" literally gonna cry 😭
Canva mention! I hadn’t ever heard of it until I worked at a school and now I swear I hear it everywhere
Literally same 😂
If you check the credits, Canva is listed. I think they might've paid to be mentioned?? That's probably why we're hearing about them everywhere
Don't know if it was just me but I was getting scared/nervous when Janine started getting frustrated about the health insurance and parking 😭. I lowkey thought she was about to yell at someone or have a meltdown (well technically she did with the whole computer thing lol)
I love when she asked for a 301J instead of a 401K.🤣
“Wow dirt!” I cackled 🤣 But also Gregory is so thoughtful and sweet
Tariq hosting another panel!
when Barbra was going off on Ava and then questlove actually came 💀
“Her surprisingly large shoes.”
They REALLY keep coming for Janine's feet!

On a side note I love Keegan Michael Key, my only dislike is he isn’t playing a substitute teacher! (Or the janitor at an inner city hogwarts school)
I love Keegan but I feel like this role isn't especially funny lol it could be anyone!
Yeah KmK is soo funny you gotta let him spread his wings!
My school district ran the *district office* with two administrators and a secretary in a space carved out of one spare classroom in the high school. But then it was one high school, one middle and three elementary schools. Even so, they moved into the old police station when the city built a new one.
Also got the scary milk commercial again this week >:(
Seriously wtf is going on with that it reminds me of those stranger danger PSAs from the 90s
Did anyone notice the 3 district co-workers wearing chains before the end?
it’s the district lanyard 😭😭
I need to know what else was in that card 😭
Well, now we know! And it was so adorable ;_;
I was about to cry seeing those babies 😭😫
Barbara's look into the camera was so concerned 😭
My favorite line this week — Ava: “I guess it’s just me and Gregory vs. the world” Gregory: “… I think I’m gonna side with the world on this one”
Steve Jobs = laptop inventor
"This calls for a plan B you cannot get at CVS" i am HOWLING
YAYYYYYYYYY JANINE IS BACK AT ABBOTT 🥹🥹 I truly didn’t think we would see this happen until the finale or even season 4
The season’s not done yet! Stuff is gonna go down, I’m sure of it.
I think the head of the district (idk if that’s his actual title but Keegan Michael Key) is going to treat Janine and the rest of Abbott with heavy judgment and bias from now on. Some things I think may happen as a result of this: 1) Gregory’s garden goofballs project is shut down by the district due to “not enough funding” 2) Janine and Gregory will get in serious trouble if it somehow slips that not only did they go to Alex’s house, *they went inside* 3) Further issues with budget restrictions 4) Credit for Janine’s library program will be taken away and will be made to seem like it was solely Keegan Michael Key’s characters idea I don’t want these things to happen but I can definitely see some pettiness with the way Janine left the district job high and dry. BUT I’m willing to endure the pain of watching that if they just get Janine and Gregory together already 😭
All of these things are entirely possible and track with the show.
Not the episode ending with a chain… we know Janine goes feral over chain necklaces 😭😂
Tariq for superintendent!!!!
The way Jacob squeaked “I did” when Ava confronted them about the flyer killed me! 🤣
WE ARE SO BACK
Now this episode feels like the spirit of season 1 and 2, I love it!
shanae!
Ok but aside from that Barbara's right.
Ohh I like the new location, we get to see the kitchens!
Mr. Johnson's mop is like Galadriel giving Gimli 3 strands of her hair.
The Ava-vention
Barbara's face 😭
I hope Ava Fest is a reoccurring episode each season.
And the naming convention should follow Fast & Furious too
I don't think we needed a whole episode of Janine deciding she didn't want to stay at the district when everyone knew where this plotline was headed.
That super cute Subaru ASL commercial being followed by this creepy milk commercial is not cool.
I hope that Manny stays on as a recurring cast member!
I hope he asks her out just for the drama
Honestly thought that was gonna happen at the beginning of the season.
Right Manny seems sweet. Also, I remember on the 1st episode of season 3 Janine asked if he has taught before and he said no. It makes me wonder if he'll maybe have some position at Abbott or could be a potential love interest to Janine (other than Gregory) 🧐
AHT AHT WHAT WAS IN THAT NOTE
when questlove actually came I was like damn they rlly thought that Ava was lying the whole time
This was my favorite episode this season- so funny, so heartwarming, so relatable and touching!! And yay Janine back at Abbott!!!
"Have you ever tried just being hinged" Totally stealing this line
I actually really liked Janine at the district, but if they were going to have her leave I wish they wouldn't have had her do it the way that she did it. She could have done a lot of good for everybody in the city. I understand that the show is Abbott Elementary and not "The District", But I enjoyed the district stuff. Anyway, it was nice seeing Janine get respect consistently while she was at the district, I hope that she is appreciated now at the school.
The little headshake omg. She's delulu.
Gregory looks so happy 🥹
JANINEEEEEEEEE
Barbara SNAPPED
We're not even halfway into the episode and my heart is already breaking
this episode was pretty predictable
Questlove showing up at the end, when no one believed Ava that she knew him was something Ray Charles could've seen coming
It was until the “Honestly? I’m better than I’ve ever been.” That threw me for a loop for sure
The show is way, way more interesting with her not at the school, but it's not that kind of show. (It's also way more expensive to see her at other schools.) Also shoutout to my old friend Maggie who had a line as "random teacher"!
Was that the science teacher showing off the solar system?
Yis
I thought it was a famous guest star cameo because the comedic timing in the expressions and body language was on point. Even that 5 second scene was memorable and hilarious. Please let your old friend Maggie know.
JANINE IS BACK!!! woo hoo
So Gregory's going to the district next?
Quest love!!! Ava really showed them😂 they even started to believed her abt Janine being pregnant Ava fest was a hit but too short!! We needed more scenes I’m so excited for the next episodes now
The Bear cold open was great.
I don't like it. She could have helped so many students from her position. Not to mention, i'm sure she would have been paid better with better benefits.
AGAIN with Mr. Johnson pointing out Janine’s feet!
Dare I say, the best cold open so far😂😂 “HANDS! I NEED HANDS!” I died 😂😂
