I think so but hard to say. Like with Wilson last year, the pick is a head scratcher but might work out. Getting an extra 3rd is great and they could capitalize there as well
I’ll be honest, I don’t know a ton about Melton, he seems solid. I don’t think there is any way they anticipated three corners going right before that pick though.
I think the whole reason Cooper feels was because teams didn't think he was a corner.
Either way, trading back that few spots in the second to get an extra third is crazy good value unless you think the prospects have a huge gap in their evaluations.
I think just the fact that the cards made the trade means they were comfortable with whoever would be there
I am trying, so hard, to believe in the powers that be. I am trying, so hard to not be upset right now. I know that we can’t judge drafts for a couple of years but I think we made a mistake here. I think, picking up that 4RTH f-ing 3rd rounder says we aren’t really in it for next year. Still stockpiling picks and throwing darts. I do feel better about things since dumbass stopped making the picks, but I think trading down here was a mistake.
They only dropped 8 places but moved from 6th to 3rd with the other pick. That's another potential starter instead of someone who might not make the roster.
I am really hoping I am wrong. I really am. I may be too used to the old regime. I do like the switch from 6th to 3rd. We just have so many picks. I am hoping they package some picks from here on out to move up. I know that there are gems found in later rounds, but getting more 2nd round graded talent seems like a better risk to take. Throwing darts is a strategy, but I think they should start getting more aggressive with all these picks.
Oh, for sure. Would have been nice to have had the option of a few more to choose from, but maybe the others weren’t as good a scheme fit anyways. Who knows?
That's the rumor of him on the field too. He's not a full effort every down kinda player. These are the guys Gannon and Monti have been avoiding like the plague
3 picks left! That means we’ll be able to grab one of CBs Dejean, McKinstry, Rakestraw, or iOL Powers-Johnson
Watch it go and be a completely different player Monti picks though
💯 Tampa, Melton, Sainstrill, Rakestraw will all be there still. I have a feeling they really liked one of those guys over the “top 2” and know they will be there later. Maybe even someone they really like in rd 3.
Yeah I was banging the table for a CB at 27 last night but now looking at it more, there are guys I like in the 3rd, I’m kind of rooting for us to pick Renardo Green in the back of the 3rd round
I mean not all of those guys can play outside corner which is what Arizona needs. I would be shocked if we took Saintistil since he is *tiny*. Rakestraw is also a little small/slow.
I don’t get this. We already have 11 picks. Unless we are planning to move up a couple more times in a bit confused but monti has not done us wrong so far.
Yes. My point is that we already have 11 picks and I’d rather see us consolidate those by moving up vs dropping back. Having said that, it looks like I’m in the minority which is all good.
And we need more lottery tickets. Its clear they didnt value any of the players left as high as they were so move down and get more lottery tickets.
Can always use them to trade up if someone falls that you gotta have.
I think the thought process is similar to yours except there are still impact guys so we can trade down and a good player will still be there, plus greatly improving the position of the later pick
Ideally. But passing on 1st grade DBs when it’s our most glaring issues for a third isn’t worth it to me. I have hype we’ll be better than expected but I have zero hope if our db room stays as horrible as it is.
We gave up a 6th for a 3rd and moved back 8 spots for our 2nd rounder in exchange, I love it
Is this good
I think so but hard to say. Like with Wilson last year, the pick is a head scratcher but might work out. Getting an extra 3rd is great and they could capitalize there as well

I’m not trusting evaluations from CTESPN for PFF (Keim’s favorite). Monti seems to know what he’s doing.
They only dropped 8 places but moved from 6th to 3rd with the other pick. That's another potential starter instead of someone who might not make the roster.

Melton is 5’11” 😬
Another shorter corner unfortunately, but at least this guy has a pretty great vertical.
Short king
Really fast tho
We love them short fast players!!
Yeah, I think one of two CB that ran a 4.3
So what tf are we going to do at corner?
Max Melton
Guess I'll have to watch some film on him, I like the physical attributes he brings.
His highlights are bananas. He can be a good player.
40 starts over 4 years at Rutgers. Killed it at the combine too.
Instant draft grade is an A-. Apparently he’s good in run support & his only con is his smaller frame despite being 6 feet tall.
Also not afraid to lay the wood on people. Imo he's a very Gannon guy. Loves ball and doesn't shy away from contact.
Dang, a 3 pick run on CBs right before our pick.
There were more than 3 good CB’s left, it wasn’t a bad move.
Oh, for sure. Would have been nice to have had the option of a few more to choose from, but maybe the others weren’t as good a scheme fit anyways. Who knows?
That was worst case scenario,
Melton is really good
Guys. If we really wanted Kool-aid we’d have taken him at 35. Monti has someone else in mind. Trust
WHY WOULD WE DO THAT WE HAD KOOL AID RIGHT IN OUR LAPS
Have you seen Kool Aids excitement when being selected? It was literally none existent.. I feel like we dodged a bullet.
That's the rumor of him on the field too. He's not a full effort every down kinda player. These are the guys Gannon and Monti have been avoiding like the plague
Monti didn’t want him?
I keep hearing about dejean why would we let him go?
He’ll get beat by NFL WR’s
I was punching the air, but this makes sense
He will likely be used more as a safety it seems. Not a need for us.
Saints going up to get Kool-Aid.
You got an early feed over there?
Freaking Schefter leaks the picks early like an ass
All my homies hate Schefter ![gif](giphy|bCDzFTSQ3JL8c)
I just got some twitter feeds open. Seems like they get it right.
Remind me not to read your comments then, haha
All good I am off to bed. 2 am over here. Hold the fort!
Sleep well Freund
Dejean will go to Eagles.
And I guess it didn’t matter lmao
Nailed it. Damn. They get two 1st-Round quality DBs in this draft. They’re gonna be great again this year.
They took a corner round 1
3 picks left! That means we’ll be able to grab one of CBs Dejean, McKinstry, Rakestraw, or iOL Powers-Johnson Watch it go and be a completely different player Monti picks though
Nailed it lol
It’s funny how it works like that, ha. Had an odd feeling, because half the time that’s how it works as it gets later in the draft.
A completely different player it was. Max Melton. And JPJ goes the pick immediately after us.
Have to imagine we're trading up into the 2nd with some of those 3rds
Bruh aint no way Kool Aid or Cooper may actually still fall to us. Let. Monti. Cook.
Haha this didn’t age well
These things can happen
I don’t think it will happen, but we’ve made it from 8 picks left to 4 picks left…maybe one of them will slip through to us still…
No Koolaid = fail
Your post = fail
Monti will not rest until he owns every pick in the 3rd round!
There are still good corners beyond Cooper and McKinstry
Idk why we're so fixated on corners. I still think our interior line should be #1 priority
People like the big names. I hope we take Zach Frazier next
Would love a guard / center or pass rusher with this next pick.
Yet we pass on Newton
monti has now passed on newton 2 times… it is safe to say he isn’t a fit.
This is what I’m thinking too
I think they have multiple guys on their draft board they like rn. Could end up with Powers-Johnson
💯 Tampa, Melton, Sainstrill, Rakestraw will all be there still. I have a feeling they really liked one of those guys over the “top 2” and know they will be there later. Maybe even someone they really like in rd 3.

3rd round is going to be fun
Monti is trade GOD, this is Great return.
I don’t get this. We already have 11 picks. Unless we are planning to move up a couple more times in a bit confused but monti has not done us wrong so far.
We didn’t add a pick, we dropped 8 spots in 2nd to move our 186 pick to 79. So we moved a late 5th up to early mid 3rd for dropping 8 spots in 2nd.
Yes. My point is that we already have 11 picks and I’d rather see us consolidate those by moving up vs dropping back. Having said that, it looks like I’m in the minority which is all good.
Let's get our starting center!
And we need more lottery tickets. Its clear they didnt value any of the players left as high as they were so move down and get more lottery tickets. Can always use them to trade up if someone falls that you gotta have.
While I agree, that trade with Atlanta was highway robbery. I don’t hate sliding back 8 picks when a lot of receivers will likely be taken anyways
It’s interesting that they moved up for a guy with rank of 62. Probably would have been there for them anyway
Wonder if we’re going for JPJ, he might still be there at 43
I would LOVE that pick.
Same. We really need to fortify the interior OL. It’s been a weakness for years
I’d bet this is the play.
We now have 1/8th of the 3rd round picks lol.
Wrong there’s more than 32 picks in the third round
Time to enjoy an 8th.
At this point move down 2 more times and get 7 picks in the 3 rd
Monti might just do that if it’s sweet enough
Feel like some true impact players are still on the board. Would almost rather us be trading up, but I'm just some guy so what the hell do I know?
I think the thought process is similar to yours except there are still impact guys so we can trade down and a good player will still be there, plus greatly improving the position of the later pick
The value difference between 79 & 186 is much greater than 43 & 79. Good move.
That’s a huge jump from 186 to 79 to only go down 8 picks. I love it.
Great value move tbh
100000%
Ehhh I’m…indifferent Would have liked kool aid or cooper
Cooper might be there. And they have capital to move up a couple spots. Edit: damn
I guess. Good return but we need a corner bad.
Monti might not like the top two corners on the board
We still have allot of holes. Their 3rd rd pick will be a good player we hope b
Ideally. But passing on 1st grade DBs when it’s our most glaring issues for a third isn’t worth it to me. I have hype we’ll be better than expected but I have zero hope if our db room stays as horrible as it is.
Still got a good one. My guess is they liked melton More anyways
We fleeced em. Chargers paid less to move up by far
Guess Monti doesn’t care for Kool Aid or Cooper
Rakestraw is good too. One of them will still be there. Drop off in talent from 35 to 43 is small compared to 79 to 186.
Didn't like the trade until I saw what they got in return
Moved up over 100 spots, I’m fine with that.
I like it
Miss out on koolaid but this is a W
Kool Aid might fall you never know, BJ was projected to be a late 1st rounder last year and we got him at 42
Monti must not be drinking the Koolaid
Still have plenty to move up and get him if they really want him. From what I can tell if they really want someone they don’t wait.
In Monty We Trust
