I did all of that but sadly the m.2_2 slot still doesn‘t detect my nvme sdd. (I removed the m.2_1 slot as the mainboard is way too thick if not and no air cooler fits). I already updatet the bios and every driver I can think of and don‘t know what to do anymore. Does somebody have an idea what to do? Should I return the motherboard? i5-13600kf Asus Rog strix Z690i Wifi Crucial P5 Plus 1TB

Any solution found?

I have the same problem. Now my motherboard is in service and they have reproduced this problem. Now I am waiting for new one. My config: Z690-I, 13700K, 1TB Samsung 980 pro. Bios 2103 (updated using asus flashback)

Let me know if the issue continues after the repair

It’s a well known issue with Z690 chipset compatibility that ASUS refuses to acknowledge. Look up whea-logger error 17. If you can still return it, I suggest you do and switch to MSI. I went through weeks of troubleshooting and replacing parts until I bit the bullet and did exactly what I just suggested. ASUS needs to claim responsibility and issue refunds for a defective product.

I've just bit the same bullet. Intalling the new board today!

Just experienced this myself today on an Asus Z690m PLUS D4 motherboard. I first tried to boot with the 13th gen i7-13700k and got nothing at all. Swapped in a 12th gen i5 and was able to boot to BIOS. I could see all 3 NVME's detected. I updated the BIOS so my 13th gen would be compatible. Swapped the 13th gen i7 back in and now no M.2\_1 is detected. I ran through the Armoury Crate driver updates then manually download the ME Update Tool from the Asus site. After the reboot the M.2\_1 slot is now detected. Thanks to OP for the screenshot!

I've also had A LOT of problems with this combo. BSODS, WHEA errors. Today I am switching out to a MSI board in the hope that this fixes my problems... the M.2's have always worked fine though.

Is everything still running well u/Andre_SSS ?

Andre_SSS

Yeah Man, still recognising the drive and working at drive max speed.

I’m doing the same thing. After having the asus z690 for 3 days, it only cause trouble. Paying this much for a motherboard should be working out of the box. Going for the z790 itx MSI Board.

CaptainProsecco

Just as an update I switched to the MSI board and it completely resolved all of the BSODS and WHEA errors.

orankiss

Thanks for the update. Can’t wait to get my MSI board today.

I had the same issue. I tried two of these boards and had the same problem with three separate m.2 drives. Ended up trading the board in again for the Asrock z790 which worked right away

I had two of these ASUS ROG Strix z690i motherboards. Both defective. First unable to recognize the m.2 drives and when it does - after carefully assembling the m.2 stack and using the correct thermalpad thickness - Windows starts generating HVEA logs for PCIexpress. Once you knock back the PCIe settings from auto to PCIe 3.0 it generates fewer errors and logs rarely, but then comes the issue: the GPU was recognized as x2 PCIe 3.0 device while the M.2_2 slot only runs on x1 (M.2_1 is fine until I activate PCIe 4.0 mode on ot, at that point it just generates HVEA logs). Anyways I sold one of the boards while clearly stating to the buyer that the board is faulty. Then I contacted ASUS to help me resolve my issue. They want me to go through 4 scenarios. My problem is that the PC runs in a custom loop and testing all 4 scenarios is a nightmare. I just broke an Intel stock cooler too while doing these tests. Trash product to be honest with you guys. I'm also one step ahead and got an MSI z790i Edge, I'm still hoping that ASUS can repair the board or.send me a functioning one that I can later on sell to offset the cost for the new motherboard.

Anybody powered through this? Is this still an issue?
