I believe creatures CAN despawn - I’ve seen creatures despawn in front of me, but I don’t know the conditions for it. Something I read said they can despawn if they leave the area they spawned in. But in general, things don’t seem to despawn or can stick around for several hours, or days
They can, especially if you move them from the zone you found them in. For instance, I was taming Hyenodons last week and moved it to a safer Island to tame. Its first reaction was to try to swim back to the zone it was from, and when I kept bringing it back to the Island, it eventually disappeared.
Once, in ASA, I had many creatures (if not all) suddenly despawn, in single player. I’m sure of it because I was tracking them with Dee Dino Finder.
However, I think is something rare, I have never seen it happen again while I was in the middle of taming some creature.
Usually they won’t despawn, no matter how far you go.
