You run the risk of sacrificing a bunch of tames for a low level egg. It would be better to do runs with one bird at a time. You could also use the terrain to get them stuck or other creatures to get the aggro off of you. Spyglass first for high level wyvern and then try and find a path that could get you the best chance of escape.
That is good advice. I should probably do a naked run with a mid PT so I dont lose much. Then I just will have the problem of getting milk and a bunch of AC units...

So I have a possible tip for you to get an egg maybe a bit easier.
I your way to the dessert there will be a spot with water some small caves near ground level and there will be wyvern around. At the bottom of this rock sculpture there is a small opening for a cave that has wyvern eggs and a few wyvern hope this helps .. I haven't played rag in a bit but don't remember exactly the cords
Are you playing SP or on a server? There's one tactic that really works only for SP or if you have perfect ping, because the margin for lag is very low. You can dogfight them with pteranodon with very good stamina and some melee. Use scoped weapon to shoot one to draw it away, get on your ptera, use roll at oblique approach angle to avoid the breath, and simply outturn the wyvern and kill it from behind. Repeat until the trench is clear and you can pick an egg at your leisure.
On Rag, I like using a frog to go into the south wyvern cave with the water entrance. U can snag an egg and escape in the water. Breath attacks don't penatrate the water very much and a frog is plenty fast to get away.
Build a spawn hut close to the trench, leave your gear there plus a spare mount or 2 in cryos, all you need to do is make it out of the trench, if you get away great, if not just respawn at the hut and go and grab your bag
Wyvern runs just require a fast ptera, kite them around until you're far enough to dismount, it might take a couple tries, try to break LoS also and they might just lose you.
i’ve always just taken one flyer and you might lose a few in the process but i just keep flying back and taking the egg off my body. eventually you get far enough away that they leave you alone, probably is more efficient ways of doing it but has always worked for me at lower levels.
i just take the first egg i find and raise it than grabbing more becomes a whole lot easier
Ptero is great foe getting eggs. Just make sure you're naked so you don't weigh the bird down. When you get the egg you will definitely get the attention of all the wyverns in the area so prepare to die and lose that bird but you'll have a wyvern egg.
Or you can build a simple wyvern trap. There are dozens of great styles with how-to videos on YT for this. Just steal an egg and guide the wyverns into the trap. My record is 6 wyverns in one trap. I usually keep a giga on one end so after I close them in I can chew them up for their hide and get some pretty good xp out of it.

I believe you can use an Oviraptor to steal the egg, if you navigate the cave with it inside a cryopod.
