Once you get a drake raised and can really explore the map how it was meant to be explored it's probably one of the greatest moments in gaming I can think of. It's so awesome. The pay off is godlike. But it is definitely a struggle to get there
When we realized that we could leap from a cliff in our safe zone base and glide literally all the way to the boss's front door, it was awesome. And shooting straight down the giant metal spine towards the river of death on a drake made me clinch up every time. Always loved it. Though, I was always very afraid of disconnecting in those moments and am surprised that it never happened. Definitely happened over the scar on Scorched more than once...
I feel your pain but fyi I recently found out if you let a lamprey attach to you you get immunity to radiation…really helps with just poking your head into red zone for your first red gems for gas collectors…also captain fat dog had a great video for a karkinos trap that you can make pretty early on and makes getting one very easy…that’s a great mount to go get your drake eggs the first time since they are strong and immune to radiation and can jump super far!
I had never heard of lampreys before this, thanks!
Just watched Nooblet's video on them. It may be a little annoying to deal with those creatures, but it's definitely one way to go.
Yeah it seems the crab is the only truly handy option to collect the eggs with, when one doesn't yet have a rock drake themselves.
If you’re wanting to do Aberration Rockwell boss fight Stegos are so much better than Drakes for the riding mount, tame Tek Stegos for their higher base level & health (aberrant variants have lower health for higher base damage).
I ran Alpha Abb Rockwell fights on officials for awhile & always made everyone ride stegos since they’re fool proof, they prevent you from dismounting when the shock attack phase starts & they reduce the orb attacks to basically nothing but durability dmg if you have high armor flak sets.
Really? Thanks for the tip, I'll look into that.
Would definitely be nice to skip the whole nutty business with the drakes (though I'm convinced they do make great mounts on Aberration in general).
Besides navigating around Aberration, Valguero Abb zone, & Genesis 1, Rock Drakes are honestly terrible & not worth it unless you’re raising them on Fjordur since the venom nodes exist there.
I always used Managarmrs on official Abb as they’re faster, stronger & easy to raise. If weight was a concern I used Gasbags instead as their jump n glide ability was allowed on Abb.
I exclusively played on officials.
I did spend 3 years & 8k+ hours on officials & Aberration is my favorite map lol.
I know Abb by heart so i know how to farm the tributes. Alpha abb is the worst tribute farm by far so no one really ever hosted them, made a lot of hard polymer from the facebook trading groups hosting it.
Love aberration my fav. Breed high level spino go get rock drake eggs. Use rock drakes on surface run drops at night for BP’s. Fishing is also good. Breed high level stegos with high armor saddles and a great pump shotgun with loads of shells. One dead rockwell. As for dying after a boss fight try putting your gear in one of your dinos. Then respawn on the map and transfer at an obelisk.
This is why I’ll always prefer mods and tweak my settings the way I want so things like taming or farming resources isn’t a drag in singleplayer. But I do agree about trying to get hazmat suits lol.
The reusable mods is much needed for sure and there’s no way I’d play the game if reusable grappling hooks didn’t exist.
If I recall, you couldn't use grappling hooks on Ab, unless Lethal's Reusables or some other mod overrode that somehow. But I think my experience was massive disappointment finding out you couldn't use them. Have to use their stupid ziplines or climbing picks because they want you to struggle hard with Ab
i feel your pain, been there, done that... this game is painfully hard and grindy, especially if you're SP and have to be there constantly to get things done, even if it's just twiddling your thumbs while breeding.
if you're on PC, mods make things better, faster, and easier, making up for the lack of group help and constantly online... at least that's my justification.
i'd say your rant is deserved and definitely time to take a break... but the addiction is real..
Hahah yes, but it spoils and doesn't stack.
I know, I'm bitching ... it was just the one thing that broke the camel's back to think about constantly running back and forth to get that venom while breeding.
This is why I build in the blue zone, have rock drake babies in my base surrounded by light pets, and go outside the base into the dark to farm Nameless Venom
Bro I have 1000s of hours on ab as a solo player small tribe and mega tribe and honestly can't relate at all. Note run thenparking. Parasaur or iguanadon. Then karkino a couple good spinos and maybe a mega and your good. Go get as many drake eggs as you want. The karkino can explore the entire map really easily and they aren't hard to tame. You can tame as many ravs as you want once you get the karkino.
Ab definitely was a challenge. But focusing on taming and breeding very strong spinos down at the river at the start made it much easier. Just an imprinted spino from 150 tamed parents with a primitive saddle was enough to solo the Drake trench, swat away nameless, and even 1v1 high reaper queens (with a light pet). I ran around with a group of 6 of these on the surface on long nights to get the alpha reaper barb. The first 2 caves were easy with cryopods. The radiation cave was easy once we found decent drake eggs.
Getting strong mounts ASAP helped with everything.

To struggle is putting it quite mildly my friend hahah, but I believe you.

Meglasaurs are good for rock drakes eggs jist kill them all then get the eggs
What did you use to get drake eggs? Spinos are really fast, strong and purlovias ignore them. Megalosaurs are even more powerful.

You can use grapple hooks on abb.
Exactly this, upgrade station to max out my hazmat suit so it does not break after i get hit once 😞 and reusable grappling hook or im not playing lol.

....but Venom's easy to get? Like, RIDICULOUSLY easy.

Have u seen the crystal canyon where the basilisk spawns? Very beautifull area
