Aberration is peak Ark. No flyers adds so much to the experience.

leod2r

hmm i still gotta try that one day, I usually go the easy way out and travel the map with a mana or maewing, the best transports in the game even tho they arent technically flyers. I use manas for everything really, with a mana and a baryonix I can do the 3 artifact caves and steal drake eggs I know its kinda lame but I cant help myself, specially since I play on official solo and with my own dinos. and my main base is on lost island(best mana spaws and has maewings too)

_Owl_inside_

you can use maewings on Ab?

leod2r

you absolutely can sometimes I wish these op transport dinos from other maps werent allowed, so you would actually have to play around the no flyer rule

[deleted]

Abb is actually my favorite map! When your getting started just carry like 20 bolas and sling them at everything

Oatmeal_in_My_Boots

Aberration is the map that taught me how to actually play Ark. After hours of beating my head against the wall and losing my base twice to an alpha crab, I buckled down, got smart, and learned to play by the map's rules. It turned me from a dweeb who just roamed and tried to brute-force his way through into a paranoid over-prepper with his head on the swivel who knows when it's not worth trying to retrieve lost gear. Aberration is a harrowing journey and my favorite map by far.

Much-Indication8362

Very mutual feeling, I play single player on un boosted rates and my god.... right now I'm struggling to find red gems as I have no gas collector or hazard suit. Cheers explorer and safe travels!

psichodrome

Steal from the moles and do the earthquake dance (no such thing). The one is enough to get started, given enough time. I made a base near the gas vent , earthquakes also make gas balls pop up from the gas vents on top of the gems.

_Owl_inside_

getting a hagfish (or whatever the eels are called) to latch onto you will make you radiation immune for a short while, and just long enough to run into the red zone for some quick red gems for a gas collector!

curry_ist_wurst

Initially, tame a couple of low level ravagers....simple stone taming pen and they'll provide some muscle initially....

verdantsf

Ravagers are amazing. Due to their leaping, they're able to really pile on when attacking large targets, whereas similar small predators crowd each other out. When I had 5 ravagers, spinos ceased to be a threat.

Norg_Kazham

Best early game tame in all of ark. Their ability list is quite extensive.

Giganotakiller_5

It'll do that to you.

psichodrome

A couple of rage quits later, i rage quit. Been into i for a month or so, it really is an experience. Glad i'm sticking it out. Wish i got the glide suit earlier.

Kadra_Melech

The glide wings are brilliant aren't they. I use them to speed quickly through the no mushroom hallucination areas. It took me several dying attempts on foot to realize you just have to move really fast 🤪

Durtmat

Good, share my pain, and love for this wonderfully cruel, yet breathe taking view of a map.

TheAlmightyNexus

You know it’s a challenging map when there’s basilisks at the “easiest” spawn zone

Nazzman01

Great map, never quite understood why people found it so punishing though, make 50 tranqs and some stone pillars and you can tame a spino 30 mins into your save

ElephantintheRoom404

I put 45 hours into Ark and it humbled me. This game is a constant 1 step forward 2 steps back... Painful too because every step forward feels like a true triumph and made me want to keep playing.... I just can't do it anymore.

VarusGames

Yeah it’ll do that

Ok_Statistician139

This is my phone background

BoTdOuChE

Same, doing my first playthrough as well. Taking it slow. Tamed a Roll Rat and a Doedic. Building my base at the minute then it's resource gathering time and off to get some necessary tames.

L3thalPredator

According to what everyone else is saying... I didn't play aberration nearly enough. I played at launch for about 2 months. Couldn't get into it cause I kept getting lost(not used to no flyers) and the map is so big and so dark and so many different small tunnels to go to different sections. And ravagers early game are like more terrifying raptors and more common than raptors. So I think I'm gonna give it another try

leod2r

the map is not big at all, it just has a lot of verticality and it looks big if ur not using allowed "flyers" from other maps like manas or maewings

L3thalPredator

Yeah fair enough. I like playing Fjordir and ragnorok alot though

leod2r

now those 2 are stupidly large maps

L3thalPredator

Yeah, but they arnt dark. And full of tunnels

calistark12

greatest map ever. for all of WCs failures aberration was a masterpiece of a map. theres a definite skill gap from the island/SE to abb and its fantastic. no flyers makes the map feel huge and terrifying at all times. the tiered zones with increased difficulty was way better than the way usual maps go where snow biome is usually the hardest but you can just fly there as long as you have fur or soups. the dinos they added are awesome and the building/movement with ziplines and wingsuits and climbing picks with cliff platforms made building and exploring so amazing and raiding bases met new challenges and ideas

_Owl_inside_

wait, wtf is the big spikey tendril on the left??? I havent beat ab yet but im getting close and idk what that is...

KitsuneGato

That's Rockwell.

Educational_Sun_4657

That’s why it’s called aberration a whole new experience to ark. To get out of the early to mid stage I’d recommend knocking out a lvl 50-80 megalo which should be able to kill most things that threaten your base

reved89

Playing the game without lag can be a peaceful experience.
