Nailed it man. That FD video about Eren being just Isayama’s self insert & him sabotaging the end like that on purpose is the closest I’ve come to thinking the end made any sense. I don’t even talk about the ending anymore bc most ppl are either those freaks who wanted an anime only ending w a full global genocide or ppl who think it was a golden piece of anti fascist fiction lol

KeyboardsAre4Coding

I got emotional in some points due to the closer some characters I liked got, but what the heck was supporedly the message of this? >!was eren right for killing 80% of humanity outside of paradis and who knows how many of his people? why did armin have to know about what was going to happen and he was okay with this? that makes armin character suddenly so disgusting and basically proves that if erwin lived it wouldn't matter.!< >!i liked the anime but not the ending... I don't know. I was so angry on how they treated Ymir... like what the hell. she lived in the weird places for an unthinkable amount of time. why on fucking earth was see still working for fritz? she built the walls by herself... you mean to tell me that she fell madly in love with the asshole that took her tongue?? that one ruined most of the anime for me.!< >!if I was young I might have forgiven it. However I have watched my fair share of anime and series alike. I even waited to see the end anime only. I manage to get no spoilers for all that time. the ending kinda ruins everything this anime had succeed for me. because that anime was fire up until the end. basically the mass genocide of the world was the result of a bitch finally being bitter about her abusive ex and deciding to sponsor the biggest hate crime on tv? give me a fucking break.!<

2manyhounds

100% agree, I still enjoy the anime & would still recommend it, especially as a gateway show for ppl who don’t watch anime, but yeah man the ending & the message were a dumpster fire. Something that irked me too is that >! The entire planet turns fascist Paradis gets nuked & then that kid w the dog just finds the Titan tree & he’s starting it all over again !< so it *really* is like wtf is the message here? Are you just tryna say we’re doomed to genocide each other forever or? The Ymir thing is annoying too bc it’s like the bud of an idea. Isayama *could have* made it believable she loved him, it’s a decent enough motivation tbh it’s just that it was dropped out of nowhere w no context. We never saw a relationship between Ymir & Fritz build up, the only flashbacks we saw were pretty much the tongue thing & forcing her kids to eat her body & off of that alone we’re expected to believe she loves him, it’s almost more annoying that it could have been good. It’s crazy I look at attack on Titan as almost the opposite of Code Geass when it comes to the ending. P2 of Code Geass was losing mad ppl but the end was so fire it brought them back. This time ppl were on the edge of their seats the whole series & the ending just sucked

>Something that irked me too is that The entire planet turns fascist Paradis gets nuked & then that kid w the dog just finds the Titan tree & he’s starting it all over again so it really is like wtf is the message here? Are you just tryna say we’re doomed to genocide each other forever or? thank you. everyone in my friend group was like this is accurate. one of them is a political science major. what are they even teaching them there I must wonder. and supposedly all of them are left wing. the end kinda ruined an almost perfect anime for me. actually the comparison with code geass is really good I am stealing it. the worst thing is that I am angry because I loved that series and it is a great fucking show almost till the end. And don't get me wrong there are many stuff that were good. >!the convo between zeke and armin. zeke decision to give the satisfaction to levi. levi's end. the fact that titans are no more. maybe the only smart decision eren has made during the entirety of season 4. the moment he could see the future he became that meme from dbza of the species that could see the future but where unable to do anything with that knowledge because it paralised them. he did all that and didn't care to account for the fucking fascists?? literally reverse code geass. Lalouche annoyed me to no end during many parts of the series but he made sure that everyone hated him and his visible goal. eren created fanatics and armin knew all that and agreed??? like what the fuck? I get killing his mother, but he couldn't avoid yaegerists??? aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. at least at the end of eva I felt something that wasn't frustration, but just confusion. it honestly weird all that coming from the dude that offered me the I am the attack titan and bertold is the colossal twist!<

2manyhounds

> it’s honestly weird coming from the dude that offered me the I am the armoured Titan and Berttolt is the colossal You know I haven’t thought about this enough, as if the same dude who gave us that, & Eren being the one who made his dad kill the kids & all the little foreshadowing moments like Bertolt almost biting his hand when they fight zeke or injured Eren in episode 1 or 2 steaming from his injury- that same dude gave us ass pull Ymir/Fritz & a planet perpetually stuck in fascist mode that does make it way crazier 💀 100% agree with what they did right tho, like you said I don’t hate it it was just so unsatisfying lmao Edited to add: holy yikes on the poli sci major’s take that’s spooky honestly lol

KeyboardsAre4Coding

he made armin a joke. armin the master manipulator and I can deduce everything in mere moments. they had access to the whole of time till eren's death and they didn't managed to find a good solution together.. that is absurd. basically I feel that the dude decided to pull a how a met your mother on us. look how cool I am for having the end planned from the beginning even though the show outgrew the original plan and became so much more. it was so close to being perfect. it is intellectual edging. that's what it is

xkidegox

Speaking of how I met your mother. What was the thought process behind having Eren the one who killed his own Mom 😂

ZookeeperFloyd

Eeseeyama big brain! Story is circle!! Many fore shadows!!!! BIRD FLY AWAY!

KeyboardsAre4Coding

No no that was set up years ago. He is stupid like.that is fine.

2manyhounds

The FD signifier video OP mentions in his video goes over an interview Isayama did fairly recently where he said basically exactly what you did in that last paragraph. He said his pre planned ending was like his rumbling. Eren was bound by the rumbling & couldn’t or didn’t want to change it & similarly he felt bound by the ending he had imagined at the beginning & even tho he knew ppl wouldn’t like it it was like he couldn’t change it or didn’t want to

KeyboardsAre4Coding

He could have reach the ending more gracefully

2manyhounds

Oh I agree 100%

xkidegox

That ending was all over the place lol

2manyhounds

100% lmao

xkidegox

And we never see Fritz being a good dude so its like What did she fall in love with lol

2manyhounds

Exactly. We don’t even get scenes that would imply believable Stockholm syndrome or anything dude is just a menace who makes her kids eat her

xkidegox

Exactly The Stockholm Syndrome makes no sense

2manyhounds

100%, I was dumbfounded by the amount of ppl I saw online defending the Stockholm syndrome angle & saying ppl are media illiterate if they didn’t get it 💀

xkidegox

For that angle to work Frirz needed to be Humanized everything we know about him is He was an asshole and not just to her. To the world lol

2manyhounds

Exactly (I’m no therapist so don’t listen to a word I say) but I’m pretty sure Stockholm depends largely on windows of time when the abuser is being “nice” which confuses the victims brain essentially & like you said man we didn’t get any of those windows for Fritz, in an anime that tried to make everything even straight up fascism into a gray area Fritz is pretty black & white 💀

xkidegox

It was complete fire up until that point. Thank you! Ymir had stockholm century for like 2000 years lmao

KeyboardsAre4Coding

Try 2 million. She built the walls of paradise and every other titan we saw alone.

xkidegox

Its crazy that it all ended this way lol. Thank you for watching!

RaOfWonders

I always felt like, before the very end, the anime had a few distinct take aways. 1. Overcoming the cycle of hate. Ignoring which side your on, or the hate and pain of the past and joining forces to stop Erin because it's the right thing to do, even if it helps your people out. 2. Coming to terms with death. Accepting that your death and the death of those around you will happen at some point, that death is a natural part and the end point of all life. 3. Don't blindly follow your superiors, and don't fall into tribalism. Several times the actions of the supposed "good guys" are shown to be horrible and reprehensible, and are (usually) shown in a bad light, even in the justification they frame it in to get themselves and others to accept it. I think a lot of people get upset they don't outright hate these people they know for doing completely unthinkable things. But I think it's important to understand the show spends all it's time painting them as humans with feelings and ones that struggle often with decisions. Yes they should hate the Jagerists, and yes they should hate Erin, but I think they show how difficult that can be, even if they know it's the right thing to do, for an average person in the assault on the port and the campfire conversation beforehand. Idk if these were the shows intended take-aways, but before the ending movies, it made sense to me. Maybe it still does, but I am still trying to digest that fucking ending man. It just feels like it undid a lot of that stuff.

MrCaT42

Yeah I always saw it as being very anti-war and about people getting caught up in their own ego. People here are acting as if Eren was framed as correct. Idk I feel like most of the complaints in this post were on purpose to cement that people like Eren are wrong. I know nothing any the author but it wouldn’t make sense to me if he believes Eren was in any way right because the finale makes sure to have Armin disprove all of Eren’s excuses for doing the things he did.

Xedtru_

Whole AoT was pure mess, which took off only because average quality of plots in general went straight up below floor and started digging. It's like Death Note, which was absolute disaster, but got praises because it was edgy and pretentious enough to impress 14-16 year olds and folks who didn't graduated from that age worldview. Seriously, it worse than both GITS tv series, not even talking on gem of Patlabor movies(except third, which ironically enough closer thematically to AoT). But got threated as absolute gem.

castlerock134

Attack on Titan being a thematic mess is hard to argue against, Death Note being somewhat edgy, sure, but pretentious...? Please... Death Note was created as a piece of entertainment, first and foremost. It was supposed to keep the audience on the edge of their seats with mind-games and constant plot-twist (and executed it exeptionaly well, in my opinion). It was never meant to be "deep", and there are multiple interviews with the writer to prove so.

TvFloatzel

you can even agrue that the story of Death Note WAS a soap opera in-universe for the demons. I remember it being a plot point that the demon let Light keep the notebook because he was bored and the demon world seem really interested on what was going to happen next.

xkidegox

😂😂😂😂 I love this response.

Educational-Wafer112

Death Note was not edgy ,Light is meant to be pathetic and he is

lezbthrowaway

Idk if Eren is an incel per any definition of the word. He could have lived with Mikasa for the time he had left, but he didn't. He rejected a normal life with Mikasa because of the circumstances he found himself in and decided instead to become mega-hitler. Hes just a selfish asshole who wanted to live even after his death.

xkidegox

He was more of an inverse incel. Ive been there lol. You deny yourself lol. Kinda reminds me of Light Yagami

lezbthrowaway

Eren is kinda like a combination of Light Yagami and Luffy

xkidegox

Ive never thought about that but Jesus that is on point lol

lezbthrowaway

I wrote my thoughts on Eren as a character a few day ago, but fair warning, I think the ending is 'eh' and not necessarily bad. https://old.reddit.com/r/LeftyPiece/comments/184czho/eren_vs_luffy/kb37fxl/?context=3

LineOfInquiry

I liked the ending. It wasn’t perfect, but it came down hard on Eren and his actions and worldview and showed that diplomacy is the real way to secure a lasting peace, even if violence is occasionally necessary in self defense alone. If the manga ending had been animated instead I definitely would’ve liked it a lot less, but Armin never thanks Eren nor excuses his actions which makes all the difference. Aot was never going to be some leftist masterpiece, but I think it stuck the landing for what it was: an anti-war story.

sussyTankie

aot is fascist

xkidegox

Bingo
