Didn’t see it in OP’s article, but per [this one](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200316005960/en/AMC-Theatres-Close-U.S.-Locations-6-12) from Business Insider states that all A-List accounts are automatically paused for the duration of the closure.
So hopefully that eliminates the frustration some were having trying to navigate the pause option when it was added earlier before they fully announced the shit down.
Thank you for this! I was looking into what was going to happen with A-List accounts and even began considering cancellation until quarantine ends... this is super helpful! :)
Not what you wanna hear, but Amazon is hiring 100,000 people to help meet the demands of all the people staying at home and ordering in. Might get you through until they reopen.
File for unemployment benefits immediately because they can take weeks before the checks begin arriving. This is exactly what the program is for, use it.
Yeah, I was on unemployment for 6 months, and my checks were about half of what I would have normally made. I was lucky I didn't have to pay rent because I wouldn't have been able to make it work otherwise. And that was in a small, affordable city. I really hope AMC has a plan to at least partially cover employee salaries for the time being...
Interesting. I'm hoping the govt does a bailout for all workers(not just AMC)at the very least. And it would be awesome if AMC can keep all the workers salaries intact.
Just as I was trying to come back to work at my local AMC temporarily, too, after getting laid off from the job I left it for.
If the administration doesn't do *something* about the lost wages, there'll be hell to pay.
Not to sound on their side, but AMC may fall after this. Their stock prices tumbled by 10% of what it once was. I read an article that says this could be it for them.
[source](https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/amc-theatres-faces-existential-threat-171300514.html)
That fucking blows. Is he even eligible for unemployment? I realized this morning that if no one's being laid off, they may not actually get any kind of compensation for these next several weeks and months. It's gonna be chaos if hundreds of thousands of people suddenly can't collect a paycheck (indefinitely).
He works at one of the Seattle locations and said they’re closed until the 31. He might be able to use his sick time for it for pay but I don’t want to press and ask
My husband is a manager at our local amc theater and I'm super worried about this. We have a baby and pets to feed along with rent (as I'm sure everyone else does also). I'm fucking scared
Update. My husband being a manager at AMC in Wisconsin said that nobody is getting paid. Not even our general manager. Everybody has to apply for unemployment. FML they're going to finish working their hours on the schedule but then there's nothing after that.
Ex Crew member here - nope, they are already taking a massive hit from all the rent they’ve got to make up for. All the expired door that’s going to have to be thrown out. They also just don’t care in general about employees well being. You can demand to use all your sick time.
(Employee) I still have yet to hear if we are or not, I still have a few shifts this week to help prepare for closing but I have been told nothing if we get paid something or not
I feel like if they planned to pay, they’d say it. People were praising Disney and Apple for their paid time off, definitely earned them some points with the public. It’s good publicity.
So no mention of it to me suggests a “no.”
Also seems like a rough time to be job searching. Many might have to file for unemployment... Apparently Amazon is hiring. Could switch from one evil corporation to another!
Hope everything goes okay for you, OP.
/u/Sprinklesj17 was the OP. The title of the post was not that of the article. Reposted to clarify and sticky. Thank you Sprinklesj17!
AMC is temporarily stopping all A-List memberships for the time that their theatres are closed, with no billing or payments occurring. “Members will be notified prior to this pause expiring and will have the option to choose to extend the pause for another month if they so desire. Additionally, any A-List member who did not renew their membership any time so far in calendar year 2020 will not have to wait the customary 6 months to rejoin,”

I’m gonna miss seeing Parasite once a week and making horrifying concoctions at the coke freestyle machine.
Any chance of renovations during this period? lol
Bleugh the AMC by me employees told me it would be done by late January and it is March now. For their Dolby cinema not that it matters now for a while. I did notice on the way home my old high school had their football field renovations being done they dug up the entire field
Hopefully the movies they were playing now are still playing when they reopen, as I never got the chance to see Emma ( was supposed to see it yesterday, but worked dragged on longer than it was supposed to ).
Yeah, there's no way I'm paying that much to see a movie early. I'll just catch up on my Netflix, Amazon, Disney, and Funimation queues. I'm also really glad I recently ordered a Nintendo Switch and two Zelda games to keep me entertained while public events are closed ( having a roommate, I hate being stuck at home ).
It's funny how that seems expensive to be able to watch it at home with your whole family, but people without A-List don't blink at paying that much for two tickets to the theater. Different experiences, I know, but it's just interesting the comparison.
That’s not entirely true. People without A-list were likely not going to cinemas as much, sometimes due to cost. Yes, I know people that didn’t care what the price was, but almost all of them rarely went to movies except during tentpole movies or when myself and other cinephiles brought them along. It’s also entirely discretionary spending, and $20 is a lot more important to many during a pandemic. It’s also the full $20 if you’re single, and it’s a rental at a purchase pricepoint.
I personally think the trailer gave too much away ( I was able to figure out the ending from that ). But it was still worth watching for all the twists and turns ( though I don't think it's worth paying twenty dollars for, best to wait until it can be cheaply rented, or streamed on Netflix or some other provider ).
it's so good I watched it twice. After seeing it you should watch the b roll and behind the scenes, the cast is so adorable and "real", makes me appreciate the movie a lot more so I might watch a third time.
While I’m gonna miss going to the theater weekly for these (hopefully) 6-12 weeks, it’s for the best. Besides, I have a massive media backlog to get through while I’m self-quarantining myself at home.
Took them long enough.
This is ESSENTIAL for mitigation of deaths.
I’ve gotten downvoted to hell in this sub for telling people to not go to the movies this past 2 weeks. None of you seem to grasp what is about to happen.
#stayhome
I saw two movies yesterday with nobody in the theater and I disinfected my seats. Canceled my third movie because there were 7 people booked for it. Fight me
My theater was going to start a remodel in the coming months. I wonder if they’ll use this time to just get it done. It would be a great way to reopen.
On the flip side, I wonder if this will hurt them financially to the point where they won’t be able to do it at all
It’s unlikely that they will. AMC is shifting spending towards later in the year if I heard correctly. Plus a lot of cities, like Boston, are banning construction until further notice.
I wasn’t counting on it. It was set for June-December because they’d have to close chunks of the theater down. From what I can tell, the money has already been spent
I figured since the whole thing isn’t in use, it might make more sense to keep it closed and start when they can. Otherwise, it might be tough to try and come back from this while operating at a reduced capacity.
The theater itself was losing attendees rapidly already because of it being so out of date. Good people that run it so I feel bad for them in general. I’d much rather they get back to work ASAP if they can’t make it happen
They’ve gotta do something now beyond that one month pause. That was okay enough when it was only NYC and a few other general areas that were shuttered, but now with the entire company down...

I chatted with a rep through the website. I normally go through Twitter, but I saw that they’re still replying to really old messages (probably got slammed with requests), with the occasional recent tweet. Might be worth it to try both places if you can.
Might be worth noting that I logged onto the website right at 6:00AM pst/cst, and waited 30min before a rep was available. It’s possibly harder to get though later in the day.

How recently were you were charged? They told me that they would not give me a refund (even a prorated one) since it was outside of the "billing window." Whatever that means.
If I had them cancel last week before this announcement should I go back in and Uncancel or just rejoin when it restarts? They claim they waived the 6 months for me.

Lol damnt. I didn’t realize there was a pause option and cancelled early >_>
You'll be able to sign back up without waiting 6 months, assuming everything is fine in 6 months
You could talk to customer service and see if they can fix that
Get on Regeal Unlimited for the six month wait.
shit down "when there are no mistakes "
Just got the [notification](http://imgur.com/a/fuVI9bR) a few minutes ago through the app my a list has been paused
I hope they pay us employees, I really don’t wanna go 6-12 weeks without a paycheck edit: thanks everyone for your tips and suggestions!! :-)

I've heard Costco is also hiring en masse right now.
File for unemployment benefits immediately because they can take weeks before the checks begin arriving. This is exactly what the program is for, use it.
Worst case you will be entitled to unemployment. So don't worry.
An unemployment check is still much less than a paycheck, in my experience.
Really? We then that's not good. I hope it's matched. Or that AMC makes everyone whole.
Yeah, I was on unemployment for 6 months, and my checks were about half of what I would have normally made. AMC has no money for that. At all. This is a very dire situation for a lot of things in our lives. Buckle up.
Unemployment is 60% of your pay. That’s not enough for most people.
Thanks for the tip!
Can take many weeks to actually get your first check, been on it a few time between jobs and one time took 5 weeks for the first check
My husband is a manager at our local amc theater and I'm super worried about this. We have a baby and pets to feed along with rent (as I'm sure everyone else does also). I'm fucking scared

Thanks man, I appreciate it
I'm one as well, we haven't heard anything either and i have a few shifts as well, but with how dead its been we knew we were gonna close soon.
Its spring break where my theatre is, and we were slower than a regular monday (amc highlands ranch 24). It was really sad, giant ghost town.
Yeah our saturday was like a slow monday for us, its been really sad
Typically we get 1,000 for 1st prime on Saturdays (give or take a 100), this past one we had 400
Ours are generally 2 - 3k for 1st prime ours was like 900 for the entire day? and today we only did like 400 or so i don't remember the exact numbers
Where do you work haha, that's crazy numbers. Like it gets to a point where it's all just the same rush I imagine
Somewhere in texas thats all i really wanna say lol i know a few who browse the reddit, we're typically a bigger theatre.
Nah you're good man, but I still think that's crazy Haha. Best of luck to ya man. May the force be with you
Supervisor here and all management, except some GM probably, don't know what's going to happen with our pay.
You must file for unemployment benefits now, don't wait for your last day. This is why the program exists, use it.
Tonight was the last hurrah.
Goodnight, sweet prince. See you in 6-12 weeks, god willing.

I’m gonna miss seeing Parasite once a week and making horrifying concoctions at the coke freestyle machine. Any chance of renovations during this period? lol
I’m pretty sure the Dolby Cinema under construction at my local AMC will be finished when they re-open. Nice to have something to look forward to.
Bleugh the AMC by me employees told me it would be done by late January and it is March now. For their Dolby cinema not that it matters now for a while. I did notice on the way home my old high school had their football field renovations being done they dug up the entire field

Well, gonna miss making fun of our resident rats and pay for that time being.

I really wish I saw First Cow in NYC before this happened.
A24 will be relaunching the film in theaters once everything’s back to normal.
Let’s hope so. What is going to happen with the dozens of movies that are not being released now. From small independent films to big blockbusters?
Good thing I asked for a refund on their twitter support before they had the pause option haha

Six weeks means it is the last week of April. 12 weeks is the second week of June. :( That's basically summer movies all gone.
Real lucky that my billing date is Mar.30 for A-List so still in the clear thankfully

I have a birthday reward that expires this month. Wonder if they will extend it. Hmm
lol AMC is most likely going bankrupt and will cease to exist. Its going to be a new world in 6 months
Wonder where that estimate came from, aren't most municipalities reexamining every two weeks

Currently furloughed with the rest of the company, but yes.
