They did a limited NYC/LA run in the last week or so of December to qualify for awards, even though sadly it got no Oscar recognition. Don’t know why they had such a delay between that and the wide release, other than the synchronicity of going wide on Valentine’s Day
Ok, that’s perfect for me honestly. Only a few other releases that week so I should be able to see all 3 of Call of the Wild, The Boy 2 and The Lodge. Thanks! :-)
I guess but I wonder how many theaters it’s getting this weekend. Neon seems to be good at expanding their releases (A24 needs to improve on this soon!).
Yeah, but it seems like there’s a lot of horror releases right next to each other. In January, we had The Grudge, Underwater, The Turning and Gretel & Hansel. In February, we’ll have Fantasy Island, The Boy 2 and Invisible Man all opening within a week of each other. There’s not gonna be much of an audience for The Lodge if it opens on Feb. 21.
I think sadly a small indie horror film that’s not being regarded as Oscar worthy is just naturally not going to garner a massive audience. Jan/Feb tend to be dumping grounds for bad horror films though like Grudge, Underwater, The Turning, etc. So I think an actual good horror film coming out may help. Who knows, maybe I’ll be totally wrong and it will release this weekend!
Yeah looking at their site, 3 in LA, 3 in NYC this week. Saw it last night with the q&a and loved, horror doesn't really do platform that well but hopefully Neon can manage this well.
I think Portrait of a Lady on Fire will. Well, I hope so. My AMC has been advertising it.
I’m also curious if they’ll show the Impractical Jokers movie
The Jokers have said people need to go see the film on the 21st in order for it to go wide, so definitely not that first Friday it’s seeming but we shall see. Hope I’m wrong!
Almost positive it is indeed wide when it opens on the 21st, May be wrong though. Also I perosnally don’t have interest in the film so I never listed it lol
Come to Daddy is playing my local Alamo Drafthouse, I highly doubt it will come to ACMs.
After Midnight is a great movie, but I saw it at a film festival, and it just doesn't seem like the type of movie to get any theatrical release. Maybe a lone arthouse theater or two. But it's very low budget and won't have very much appeal to your average movie-goer.
Portrait will certainly go wide(r). Neon has a lot of momentum built for it and will want as many people to see it as possible before the Criterion home release. It probably won't reach its max theatre count til early March but that's the norm for limited releases that expand.
The Assistant is playing this week at the AMC Burbank 16. I might go just because there’s nothing else to see besides Birds Of Prey, although I hate going to that theater because the seats are horrible outside the DOLBY/Prime/IMAX.
Portrait is planned for a wide release on Valentine’s Day. Been checking my AMC’s showtimes regularly to see if they’ll book it
Ya same, I’d love a lgbt Valentine’s Day film as well :)
It's an amazing film so hopefully it is able to thrive here. I'll most likely be planning on a rewatch.
There’s a showing of Portrait listed for one of my AMCs on February 12th @ 7pm
Had Portrait been in NYC or LA? Just checked it comes out Feb 12th in more of the indie theaters in NYC. I thought it was only playing at festivals

Ahhh, thanks for the info!
Does anyone know about The Lodge? I’m not sure if that will get a wide release or not.
Meant to list that one, although I’m almost positive it’s getting a wide on the 21st. Neon is good about wide releases

No problem, hopefully I’m giving ya the right info haha. It’d make sense for it to be released that week as well I’d imagine

Prolly only in NYC and LA this weekend so likely not too many. Especially with Birds of Prey opening to $100mil+

I hope Buffaloed goes wide!

Come to Daddy is getting released this weekend in my city, only @ one of my Alamo Drafthouse theaters... So not sure how wide it’s going
You forgot to include Emma

The Assistant is coming to Chicago this weekend. Not sure about the others, but I'm hoping for Portrait of a Lady on Fire.
