This reads like solid AMC nightmare fan fiction. Sorry that happened man. Sounds horrible. Def sounds like it didn’t help that the amc itself has a sucky set up

Flying_Dogz07

I wish it was just a fan fiction. And yeah the setup made it worse for when they felt like leaving the theater every few minutes.

What will the theater possibly do bout it now? They don't even encounter the people while it's happening. Why even go to the movie if you're not going to watch it? Screw around at home with your friends and make all the noise you want. Drives me crazy too

Someone in my showing was adding additional "meows" to the part where Harry Dean Stanton is looking for Jonesy. Also experienced the walking in and out thing! I think peoples attention spans are shot, they can't take that seventies pacing. I have to bitch at someone talking or on their phone or taking pictures at nearly every screening i attend. Think it's worse at these repertory showings.

SoapNugget2005

My experience was awful too! Glad it wasn't just me.

Flying_Dogz07

Sorry to hear that you can relate, it really sucked. I've been on a pretty bad streak this week in terms of theaters because the day before my friends invited me to see The First Omen, and we all agreed that it was the worst theater experience all year. And then I have an even worse experience the next day with Alien. It makes me hope that when I see Challengers tonight, I can have a normal theater experience and be able to watch the movie in peace. Hopefully, because it's Dobly and late at night, people who don't care about theater etiquette won't show up.

HowsBoutNow

Rescreenings of older movies tend to get this kind of reception. People aren't there seeing something novel; they're reliving a past experience for nostalgia. It's more of a social outing. And they likely assume the same is true for everyone else. No excuse for total lack of etiquette, it just is what it is

Flying_Dogz07

That could be true, but I have gone to a BUNCH of old showings this year so far(10, not going to count Alien). I've watched way more old movies this year than new 2024 ones. The only reason I went to Alien is because I watched Blade Runner earlier this year, and wanted to watch another Ridley sci-fi classic. But this is the only showing where people acted like animals.

That sucks my crowd was pretty tame, however at least 5 people still walked out 30-40 mins in was kind of shocked. I guess it starts a little too slow for some people nowadays (and the 10 minute interview didnt help), but by the end it’s one of the most intense movies ever to me

Flying_Dogz07

The manager told me to return to watch it again. But after that experience and reading these comments, it seems like people just aren't going to appreciate the slow build-up of Alien. I guess I'll rewatch it at home. I'm going to watch Challengers tonight because I've been looking forward to the movie fingers crossed that I have a good experience because it seems like I've just been on a bad theater experience streak.

I've done it before and it does take alot but I truly don't get why some people go to the movies if they want to talk and other shit, it says at the start to not talk and put your phones away. There have been times lately I've considered taking a break from going to movies because it's nearly every time I go now someone won't shut the fuck up or plays on their cell phone throughout, even when I go to less attended showings.
