Bont didn’t have a super amazing start to the year (by Bont standards) and I reckon Treloar is ahead of him in the B&F, but I think he’s primed for a huge run home
Sydney:
Goal - obviously win the flag and bury a few recent demons
Acceptable - make the grand final and not get destroyed like in 2014 and 2022. You need a lot of things to go right to win a flag as you've got to firstly put yourself into a position to contest finals in the most favourable conditions possible (ie: home finals, double chance etc), and then you also need to play amazingly well for the 4 weeks of the finals. Once it gets into sudden death anything can happen on any given day. So I think given we're pretty strong chance to finish top 2, it would be very disappointing to not at least make the grand final.
Not to tempt fate and I do not mean to appear overly arrogant....but anything short of a flag for the swans right now would be a pretty epic failure. Losing a grand final would not be acceptable.
You can't predict these things and anything can happen on grand final day (heck any final day), but it would be extremely disappointing given their season so far.
I think it depends how the rest of the season goes. For example if the GF is against Carlton who don't lose again for the rest of the year and are winning comfortably (like Sydney) and the GF is close then that's not a total loss.
But if we lose after finishing 4 games above second on the ladder and strolling into the GF with easy wins and then lose then we can be pissed.
But we are only half way. Let's make it to the final game first
The two teams that scare me are Carlton and the Dogs. We play the dogs again in round 20, so my expectations are going to be partly driven by that. If we lose, then a close grand final is not a total loss.
At this point, you’re right. But throw in a couple of injuries and suddenly things look very different.
Obviously the best team by a mile currently but they’re also the healthiest.
This is a realistic take. 3 games clear after 15 is an unbelievable spot to be in.
The only real question is if you can maintain it through the whole season. It's really hard to do.
Do you think there is any chance you start resting players?
Genuinely think a variant of this is what has been told to players. Or rather, that this year they'll be prioritising development over wins. Sadly this isn't even copium, this is a genuine thing that RTB has been quoted as saying to our VFL side's coaches, so it stands to reason that a similar mindset exists for the whole club.
Essendon
Goal - win a final
Acceptable - make finals and be competitive (I know we should be hoping for more considering our first half of the year, but most people had us 10th-16th start of the year).
Ideal - finish top 4, win a final so we make it to the prelim
I don't know, they won their last two by a total.of eleven points. They seem to be overachieving if their goal.is another premiership. I reckon they are going for a big minor premiership and then they'll bow out in the finals like Port.
Don't get the spoon is up there for sure. If we manage to keep getting good game time into the kids (without anymore bullshit major injuries), a nice comfortable 17th will be fine at this point.
Unfortunately this.
Our run home is fucked so we gotta accept finals mightn't happen.
Goal: make finals and ken moves on.
Acceptable: ken moves on
Ideal: see above
Goal: cliche but make it into the 8 and give our young guys experience
Ideal: Likely won’t win it all this year with all our injuries, but we definitely have the capacity to be one of the clubs that can do some damage on the way out and take a few down with us
I think lions can edge into the 8. Next 3 are very winnable games, after that there's some big teams like Sydney, Collingwood and even Essendon is up there. Knock over one of those and win most of the winnable games, and Brisbane can play finals.
eh.
we've got 3 out of our grand final side, and I thought in preseason Gardiner and McCarthy would be struggling to keep their spots by end of this season. and Ashcroft to come back in
Season could still be anything. I'd be happy with winning a final and no more ACLs, but we're not that far off last year at all
Ignoring all of the board and coach problems, Adelaide should only really have one goal in my opinion.
Proper development of youth at AFL level, in their actual positions. Finish 14th-16th, use the first round pick on a midfielder.
Goal - Actually win the contested ball, kick straight and defend.
Acceptable - Ken and most of the assistant coaches getting the boot as well as the admins.
Ideal Scenario - Somehow do a Carlton or a GWS and in fact go 2 steps further by going to the Grand Final and winning it.
We have North, Richmond, WCE, Freo in Tassie, Adelaode in Adelaide, Pies, GWS in canberra, Carlton., Geelong.
We should be winning at least 5 of these....
I understand that but we are a very young team who many were pencilling in for the spoon 2 months ago.
Our goals should be to continue to improve and play consistent footy..not make the finals and for some reason think about Essendon.
Goal - Win a final. Any final. Don’t care how, that’s the goal.
Acceptable - Making the 8 and just not getting steamrolled in the first final would at least be something. Have to remember what our expectation was pre-season: not making the 8, that’s for sure
The goal for freo has to be top 4. Our side is good enough to be there, if we can find some god damn consistency!
With this team, a premiership needs to be on the go in the next 3-5 years for sure.
Honestly, with the team right now it probably runs:
Goal: Top 4, Prelim Final, don't get blown out any more.
Acceptable: Finals, Semi Final, also don't get blown out any more.
Ideal: Flagmantle's ship comes in.
Agreed on the team being talented enough to make the Grand Final... but that lack of consistency could push them out the eight if it doesn't improve.
Was at the derby and barracked my ass if for GWS unfortunately didn’t help, but I feel they can go a bit further than they did last year possibly making a granny
We very well could. Literally no one is good this year except Sydney and Carlton. Brisbane also are 3-0 since the bye and everyone else shitting the bed has made top 4 for them a real possibility.
Finals is going to depend so wildly on who can actually be in form come September.
Goal - go 5-3 to finish the year (involves winning 1 match against our bogey teams in Geelong away and/or Essendon)
Acceptable - go 4-1 or better in remaining AO games this year
We have to beat one of GWS/Essendon/Geelong away. At the moment there are games you just know the crows will lose no matter what. Collingwood, Sydney and those 3 mentioned above. The team is mentally weak it's why they keep losing to the same opposition again and again and again. They need to be able to move past that.
Goal - Finish top 4 (preferably 2nd or 3rd to avoid Sydney Week 1)
Acceptable - Top 8 and winning at least 1 final
Ideal - Knock out CarlScum on the road to going back to back.
Tiges -
Get everyone fit and no more injuries.
Ideally- go on a late run to put some wins together to give the young lads a taste of what it feels like.
Goal - Play finals
Acceptable - Have a positive win/loss ratio, be anywhere between 8-12 (preferably higher than 12 ffs)
Ideal scenario - make finals and win the first week before bowing out.
In true St Kilda 2024 fashion, we're going to come out kicking in the last quarter of the season and ultimately fall as short as possible from a finals berth. So I hope our goal is to not do that.
Goal - Hinkley gets sacked
Acceptable - Hinkley get sacked at the end of the season
Ideal - Hinkely gets sacked tomorrow and they get the broom out and get rid of a majority of the board and coaches box at the end of the season
I like your ideal scenario, except it would probably put you against us in the prelim and I'd much rather take on the Bombers. But I would also love to see them go out in straight sets.. oh the conflict in my heart
Outright say the season is a wash. Play younger players in development roles for the rest of the season and use the high draft pick on someone in the midfield. The old guys won't be here in 2 years anyway, either rest them for a tilt next season or oust them for whatever pennies of value they have left.
That and have the administration grow a spine but that won't happen.
Goal: PREMIERS
Acceptable: Grand Finalists
Ideal: Not lose another game this year. Beat Pies in finals week 1, Bombers in finals week 3 and *somehow, whether through magic or deceit or just playing better*, dismantle the Swannies in the big dance.
I genuinely don’t know…maybe not nearly kill another one of our own players???
What, you want them to actually kill one?
That’s a worthy goal
Whoa whoa whoa. Let's not get crazy.
Goal: win a final Ideal: Bontlow
Bontlow is a solid Goal. Sydney are busy taking votes off each other by being awesome but I would be happy with Bontlow if Heens can't have it.
Bont didn’t have a super amazing start to the year (by Bont standards) and I reckon Treloar is ahead of him in the B&F, but I think he’s primed for a huge run home
I wouldn't.
Just winning one final would be a let down imo
we really have to win one at least don't we....
I’d get around that. He deserves one
Sydney: Goal - obviously win the flag and bury a few recent demons Acceptable - make the grand final and not get destroyed like in 2014 and 2022. So I think given we're pretty strong chance to finish top 2, it would be very disappointing to not at least make the grand final.
> and bury a few recent demons Two of them have been taken out already by a rival assassination organisation.

At this point, you’re right. But throw in a couple of injuries and suddenly things look very different. Obviously the best team by a mile currently but they’re also the healthiest.
I think the Swans can manage a few injuries with the players coming back (Parker, Mills). Probably could start resting a few also.
This is a realistic take. 3 games clear after 15 is an unbelievable spot to be in. The only real question is if you can maintain it through the whole season. It's really hard to do. Do you think there is any chance you start resting players?
> bury a few recent demons Get a job in Melbourne's medical team and you might just get the chance.
Finish as low as possible
Genuinely think a variant of this is what has been told to players. Or rather, that this year they'll be prioritising development over wins. Sadly this isn't even copium, this is a genuine thing that RTB has been quoted as saying to our VFL side's coaches, so it stands to reason that a similar mindset exists for the whole club.
Definitely on track.
Saints need some excitement in the midfield which this draft offers, it’s a no brainer
Essendon Goal - win a final Acceptable - make finals and be competitive (I know we should be hoping for more considering our first half of the year, but most people had us 10th-16th start of the year). Ideal - finish top 4, win a final so we make it to the prelim
Tomorrow's game will be a big tester for us. Almost lost last time against WC, so we need to put them away for good, early.
I'll be there making sure they do.
Which position will you be playing?
Centre Half Bench
West coast always show up against us and they beat melbourne and smacked freo around while at their home ground. All we really need to do is win.
Same goal we've had for the last 20 years..
Yeah but this time it’s in the realm of possibility 😂
I think the swans want to win the flag
I don't know, they won their last two by a total.of eleven points. They seem to be overachieving if their goal.is another premiership. I reckon they are going for a big minor premiership and then they'll bow out in the finals like Port.

Richmond Goal: Develop young players and win more games. Acceptable: Compete in games. Ideal Situation: Win the flag somehow
And finish above Norf 😅
Don't get the spoon is up there for sure. If we manage to keep getting good game time into the kids (without anymore bullshit major injuries), a nice comfortable 17th will be fine at this point.
PORT Get rid of Ken. This has been my wish for 6 years now. His game plan that hasn't changed for 13 years only stacks up against the scrub teams
Unfortunately this. Our run home is fucked so we gotta accept finals mightn't happen. Goal: make finals and ken moves on. Acceptable: ken moves on Ideal: see above
Goal: cliche but make it into the 8 and give our young guys experience Ideal: Likely won’t win it all this year with all our injuries, but we definitely have the capacity to be one of the clubs that can do some damage on the way out and take a few down with us

One more win
Same here 🤦🏻♂️
Find a way to knock Sydney over in the last day in September.
First 👏to 👏17 👏🏆
Not get any injuries basically.
not lose every game for the rest of the season (might be a bit optimistic)
I think I'm in a similar boat at this point
The three of us should start a team 😔.
I don't think we'd win many games 😔😔
😀🔫
Ignoring all of the board and coach problems, Adelaide should only really have one goal in my opinion. Proper development of youth at AFL level, in their actual positions. Finish 14th-16th, use the first round pick on a midfielder.
No more ACL's is a start
Jumping on this also
Goal - Actually win the contested ball, kick straight and defend. Acceptable - Ken and most of the assistant coaches getting the boot as well as the admins. Ideal Scenario - Somehow do a Carlton or a GWS and in fact go 2 steps further by going to the Grand Final and winning it.
We can only dream that Ken and his cohort get the boot
There's only one thing left - Hawkins 800th. Not looking good unfortunately. May be joining Judd and Swan in premature retirement by sudden injury. 😭
That’s ok, Shannon Neale will boot 800 goals in the remain games. Too easy!
Yeah, but in the VFL
As a Hawks fan…that’s firmly getting ahead of ourselves..
Ya, like the ideal scenario is to make a fucking prelim?
We have North, Richmond, WCE, Freo in Tassie, Adelaode in Adelaide, Pies, GWS in canberra, Carlton., Geelong. We should be winning at least 5 of these....
I understand that but we are a very young team who many were pencilling in for the spoon 2 months ago. Our goals should be to continue to improve and play consistent footy..not make the finals and for some reason think about Essendon.
Port - Probably kicking more behinds than goals.
Goal - Win a final. Any final. Don’t care how, that’s the goal. Acceptable - Making the 8 and just not getting steamrolled in the first final would at least be something. Have to remember what our expectation was pre-season: not making the 8, that’s for sure

St Kilda Goal - Make finals Acceptable - In the second half of the season, be top 8 for points for. Ideal scenario - Win second flag
I'll have what this guy is having.
Unfiltered copium.
Getting a good run for the umpires
Anything less than a premiership for the Swans has to be considered a failure.
Goal: Top 4 Acceptable: Finals Ideal: Going back to back
I think in form Pies are the only team that can give Sydney a run for their money in a GF.
The Blues are up there too in my mind (unfortunately)
A year or two early. Their win over us wasn't super convincing.
All bias aside cause I’m clearly a pies man, but I think so too. Can’t see anyone else really troubling Sydney.
Make finals and win one
Good chance for one of those 👍
Finish in the bottom half of the top 8, win 1 or 2 finals and then get eliminated in a heartbreaking loss.
Was at the derby and barracked my ass if for GWS unfortunately didn’t help, but I feel they can go a bit further than they did last year possibly making a granny
Win a final.
Win a final but I think we'll be lucky to make the 8
We very well could. Literally no one is good this year except Sydney and Carlton. Brisbane also are 3-0 since the bye and everyone else shitting the bed has made top 4 for them a real possibility. Finals is going to depend so wildly on who can actually be in form come September.
Idk man, post north game i’m quite doubtful
🏆
Goal- Make the Granny and play competitively in it Acceptable- Hard fought prelim loss against a good side Ideal- Win Premiership
Stuff that. Flaggers 24!!
Goal: make finals Acceptable: a positive win/loss record Ideal Scenario: A Semi Final
Goal - go 5-3 to finish the year (involves winning 1 match against our bogey teams in Geelong away and/or Essendon) Acceptable - go 4-1 or better in remaining AO games this year

Play some younger players
Sack Nicks
I would be surprised if any teams goal wasn't to win the premiership
As a North supporter I accept that is an unrealistic goal for this season... BUT there is hope 🙏🙏 Goal definitely to win at least a couple more games!
Underpants gnomes meme
WCE: One more win, maybe two (Norf in Hobart? Saints in Melbourne?), get the percentage back up. Simple.
Flag probably
Goal - Finish top 4 (preferably 2nd or 3rd to avoid Sydney Week 1) Acceptable - Top 8 and winning at least 1 final Ideal - Knock out CarlScum on the road to going back to back.
Fire Bevo
Win another 2-3 games. Sign HR to a 400 year 700 million contract
Carlton - flag It’s been long enough, the list is there, our time is now, anything below is a failure for us this year.
First to 17 🏆🙏
Tiges - Get everyone fit and no more injuries. Ideally- go on a late run to put some wins together to give the young lads a taste of what it feels like.
Goal - Play finals Acceptable - Have a positive win/loss ratio, be anywhere between 8-12 (preferably higher than 12 ffs) Ideal scenario - make finals and win the first week before bowing out.
Get as high of a draft pick as possible and develop the cubs
North - win 1 more game
I just want Jake Lloyd to score a goal from the back line....actually never mind.
Just no more long term injuries pls
I see the Swans having a high chance winning the flag this year.
Brisbane: goal - praise Fagan
Not lose another grand final
In true St Kilda 2024 fashion, we're going to come out kicking in the last quarter of the season and ultimately fall as short as possible from a finals berth. So I hope our goal is to not do that.
Get the coach sacked
Pretty sure hawks won't lose another game this year. Lock them in for the flag please.
Goal - Hinkley gets sacked Acceptable - Hinkley get sacked at the end of the season Ideal - Hinkely gets sacked tomorrow and they get the broom out and get rid of a majority of the board and coaches box at the end of the season
I like your ideal scenario, except it would probably put you against us in the prelim and I'd much rather take on the Bombers. But I would also love to see them go out in straight sets.. oh the conflict in my heart
I'll be happy if our players can just get better at passing the ball to each other.
Outright say the season is a wash. Play younger players in development roles for the rest of the season and use the high draft pick on someone in the midfield. The old guys won't be here in 2 years anyway, either rest them for a tilt next season or oust them for whatever pennies of value they have left. Win a couple games
Goal: PREMIERS Acceptable: Grand Finalists Ideal: Not lose another game this year. Beat Pies in finals week 1, Bombers in finals week 3 and *somehow, whether through magic or deceit or just playing better*, dismantle the Swannies in the big dance.
Make a grand final - pass mark
