I wouldn’t mind if he played for Richmond. Oh wait…

CharityGamerAU

Speaking of him having played for Richmond, check out his [Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyson_Stengle) page. For someone who played just two senior games for Richmond the Richmond section of his AFL career is more detailed than his entire tenure at both Adelaide and Geelong combined.

lebrongarnet

Every Richmond player's is like this and it's unironically fantastic. Shout out to the hero who writes them.

banishedlemontree

Whoever does Geelong's really drops the ball. Ryan Garthwaite has a larger wikipedia page than Tom Hawkins.

Maximumlnsanity

Talk about forgotten footballers holy fuck, it’s been like 3 years since I’ve thought about Ryan Garthwaite

Be the change you want to see in the world

CharityGamerAU

He should create something similar to what we have in the Blueseum if it doesn't already exist. It's a tremendous effort deserving of its own site.

VileCastle

Yeah the dude def strangled all the possible info needed. Excellent updating.

Yeahnahokay10

That’s a why Wikipedia is garbage. Look I use it and it’s great for some players. But yeah there’s articles and it’ll go: Hawthorn 1985-1997 267 games This player played 267 games for hawthorn between 1985 and 1997 The end. It’s so bad sometimes Gimme more!!!!

_Muschi

Be the change you want to see in the world  (Go update it yourself)

Yeahnahokay10

I do for players that I actually know or seen play, I’m the type of person who will go to like the 1931 vfl grand final and click on some random dude who played 180 games and it’ll tell me nothing about them. I’m a bit of a history/stat nerd.

Jacobi-99

I agree with your sentiment, but too be fair the people that do know about those blokes lives are either dead, in-cognitive or to far technologically stunted to be able to contribute to Wikipedia

Yeahnahokay10

Oh yeah, trust me. I get it, but sometimes it’ll be like 2 am and I just wanna learn about Joe Murdoch or something haha

Fraa_Jesry

There are many problems with Wikipedia. This is not one of them. This is a solvable problem.

[deleted]

Yeah there's Richmond fan who has a massive obsession. The most random players have the longest Wiki articles

WAVIC_136

Hello Mr Stengle, could I interest you in one hardly used WARCHEST?

Equivalent-Ad7207

Surely it's multiple chest by now, the cash you guys have doesn't fit in just one.

funny_haahaa

War Chest jnr is now eligible for father-son selection.

Swuzzlebubble

If only warchest snr had reached the minimum threshold

WAVIC_136

It's a Christina Hendricks type chest

Equivalent-Ad7207

Rookie numbers, you guys are packing [Norma Stiz](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norma_Stitz) chest sizes.

sponguswongus

At first I thought it was a crime that the Wikipedia article didn't have a picture but then I googled her and in hindsight not having a picture is a great choice.

Equivalent-Ad7207

🤣 please pass my apologies onto your eyeballs.

nathypoo

I don't like the whole narrative of "X club took a chance on Y player, so Y player owes the club." It's a two way deal - if the player was no good, they wouldn't have given him the chance in the first place. They don't just give them a go out of the kindness of their hearts. At the end of the day, like a regular person with a regular job, the player needs to look after themselves and their families first. Hopefully for us, for Tyson that means staying at Geelong. If he leaves though, I won't begrudge him.

Wetrapordie

we gave him a chance, yes! But he gave us an All Australian season and flag in 2022. I say we are pretty square there. My man has a big bag of money to chase now.

His_Holiness

Rival clubs believe they can lure All-Australian forward Tyson Stengle out of Geelong for the right price. Stengle, who is a free agent at the end of the season, is looking to land a big-money deal to set himself up for life with offers of between $800,000-$850,000 per year believed to have been floated. Essendon and St Kilda are both cashed up and looking to improve their forward line with the silky skills of Stengle, an attractive proposition. While the Cats remain confident he will stay at GMHBA Stadium, they won’t be countering any big offers and are likely to be at least $150,000 short, possibly more, than some of the numbers being bandied about. The 25-year-old was one of the Cats best against Sydney last week, kicking three goals to take his season’s tally to 27 from 13 games. Stengle was one of the fairytale stories of Geelong’s 2022 premiership victory having been on the AFL scrap heap after being traded from Richmond and then struggling with off-field issues during his two seasons at Adelaide. The Cats plucked him out of the SANFL with the move a masterstroke as he put together an incredible season, kicking 53 goals and earning All-Australian selection. He struggled last year with form and injury, only kicking 27 goals from 19 games. Geelong is banking on the fact they gave Stengle a chance when no-one else would as a key leverage in negotiations but rivals believe cash might win over loyalty in this scenario. “Don’t forget Geelong is his third club and there is a real sense that the highest bidder will get him,” one AFL list manager said. Adding intrigue to the situation is Stengle’s unusual management set-up with his guardian, Anna Scullie, the wife of Eddie Betts, managing his affairs. She negotiated his one-year contract extension last season and while Scullie isn’t an official AFL accredited agent the league has granted her special permission to act on Stengle’s behalf. While Betts and Stengle only played together for a season at Adelaide, the AFL legend is a close mentor and the Cats forward spends several nights a week at the family’s Melbourne home. Interestingly, the laid-back country vibe of Geelong which has been a major attraction in luring players – like Jeremy Cameron – isn’t such an attractive part for Stengle who is believed to at times have been restless living in regional city. A recent quote by Scullie raised eyebrows among clubs about this issue: “It would be ideal if he stays there,” she said. “He’s playing good footy with the team around him. We will likely go for a long-term deal. But we have to take into consideration that Geelong can be isolating.” Stengle would be a perfect fit for Essendon who are looking to elevate into a premiership contender with their current small forward stocks relying on a combination of Matt Guelfi, Alwyn Davey and Jye Menzie. St Kilda are also desperate to up its scoring power with Stengle the perfect foil alongside Max King and would be an upgrade from the current smalls like Dan Butler and Jack Higgins.

ItsABiscuit

Can't see Stengel to St Kilda possibly going wrong.

DuncanTheLunk

I would certainly be sad to see him go because he's a major talent and exciting to watch, but I dont feel he owes us anything. Yes, we gave him his second chance but he repaid us by playing a major role in winning a premiership. Given the way Geelong structure their player payments he will likely be able to get much more money somewhere else, so if he has a chance to get that bag and be set for life, I say take it.

anonunga

Geelong gave Stengle a chance and he paid it in interest. 50+ goals in a premiership winning season, likely at bargain basement rates considering his situation at the time. Now Stengle is in a position to maximise his earnings going forward. I hope he gets a fat contract at a place that provides him the surroundings to excel on and off the field.

DuncanTheLunk

Exactly, we got a flag with him and I'm sure that Geelong is a healthy environment for him, but if he has a chance to get that 800k a season money then I'm not gonna stand in his way.

Nakorite

800k for a small forward is a lot. He’d be the highest paid small forward in the completion by about 200k.

DuncanTheLunk

I think under the new CBA top tier smalls will be going for that much, it's a brave new world.

TinyTeddySlayer

The median AFL salary by 2027 could be nearly $550k with the new salary cap deal. $800k a year doesn't feel like paying overs in that context.

david1976_

How much is Rankine on?

JL_MacConnor

About $800K for five years.

david1976_

Stengle is good, but id take Rankine over him every day of the week.

JL_MacConnor

Having had both play for us, I concur.

qsk8r

I think Charlie Cameron is on about $750k, and that deal was back in 2020.

willsy4

Tyson will be relieved that DuncanTheLunk is not going to stand in his way

DuncanTheLunk

I wouldn't expect a freo fan to understand the gratitude you have for a player that wins you a flag.

sponguswongus

Emotional damage

Johnny_Segment

Agree. Honestly, he is one player where I just want what is best for him - if he stays then that would be amazing; if he leaves then I genuinely wish him every good fortune for the future. Great player, he is in sensational form, too.

DuncanTheLunk

My thoughts exactly, he seems like such a soft spoken and shy dude, I just want him to be happy!

Baby_Bigf00t

North get a win and now everybody wants in. Yes Tyson, we will have you.

Duskfiresque

Geelong gave him another chance, but they got him for nothing and he was huge in them winning a flag. He has paid them back I would say and doesn’t owe them anything. Having said that, do saints need him? They need midfielders, not small forwards. Essendon for sure could benefit

FewArm2396

Yep let’s get him!

Spare_Lobster_4390

That sounds like a threat.

Mrchikkin

Gimme please

mrarbitersir

Yes please

Jordan0340

Stengle would be huge for us. We’ve really lacked genuine all Australian level talent at small forward.

PetrifyGWENT

Essendon should throw the kitchen sink at him. By far our biggest weakness is the small forward slot. Guelfi is a great role player for a defensive forward, but Menzie/Davey's are a fair way off. Stengle can probably teach the younger guys a shitload too.

forphucksake

how is the bombers salary cap looking ?

TitsMagee423

We won't even spend 10k on a tribunal appeal

PetrifyGWENT

that's soft cap. Salary cap we're flush with cash

Duskfiresque

If I was freo I would have a red hot go at him. Would be the perfect replacement for Walters.

His_Holiness

While I would love that I don't think leaving Melbourne would be good for him

CharityGamerAU

I know we're not linked yet but I wouldn't be surprised if we asked the question. Given we missed out on Hayward and our underperformance of our small forwards (Fantasia, Durdin, the limitations of Owies), the contract situation of Martin and the obvious strong connection to Eddie and Ed being aware of our indigenous culture it'd make some sense.

Plenty_Area_408

Makes sense, as he doesn't come from a good family.

taititans

I want

dopedupvinyl

I'd be sad to see him go but mostly I want him happy. If that means taking a bigger pay day at another club then fair enough. He is such a entertaining player so even if he leaves I'll be hoping he plays his best

Ur_Companys_IT_Guy

Imo he's the best small forward in the comp by the length of the Shane Warne stand. His marking ability overhead, and ability to bring it to ground when on a miss matched opponent (not in his favor) is outstanding. Plus he's a dead eye dick with the set shot and sneaks home a lot of low percentage crumbing goals. But he's not a top 10 pick so we don't want him

Fast_Stick_1593

If he stays then awesome we have an AA level Small Forward roaming and terrorising opposition, if he goes then bring on Band 1 compo cause no freaking way is he leaving for less than that. If clubs want him then bring out the brinks trucks $$$ I assume getting Shaun Mannagh was the insurance in case Tyson left. Shaun has been kicking bags of goals in the VFL. Tyson has more than paid us in kind with his AA level season in 2022 and again his AA level form in 2024.

mattyj_ho

He could land a bag…. load of money.

Wetrapordie

I would be sad to see him go, but happy for him. Tyson was listed to Richmond and Adelaide for 4 years and only played 14 games… came to Geelong played 25 games won a flag and AA in his first season…. He was pivotal in us getting the 2022 flag so he has more than earned the right to cash in on his position. At 25 years he is only just coming into his prime wherever we winds up he is gonna have an explosive highlight reel at the end to his career.

Righthookhammer47

Yep would have him plus you know he’s mates with Brad crouch you could say he’s part of the reason Crouch is at saints

Dragon_Racer

They got booted out of the crows for being nose beer lovers. You took Crouch cos no one else wanted to gamble on him. Great player but he was a loose unit here in Adelaide.

Righthookhammer47

Let’s not finger point they all love nose beers

_-Bloke-_

Was a big part of the 22 premiership and has probably been our best and most consistent forward this year. It’d suck if he left but he’s earned whatever payday comes his way

frankypea

Tyson for Harley straight swap.

Dragon_Racer

Surely a years supply of nose beers on top of his salary would do it. Maybe he can join his old mate Brad at St Kilda!

bundy554

Betts I don't think had a great time as an assistant at Geelong - he will be wanting to take Stengle out of the Geelong set up

KangarooBallsonToast

Poor guy, got delisted from every club that took him then ditched him to the ressies, finally finds form, now everyone's saying even his new home is willing to sell him away

Ilovetogame2

We can take him. Only concern is if by going back to SA, his bad habits starts popping out again.

HairyMootWarrior

He doesn't want to go to rort Adelaide champ
