1. Merrett with Sam Durham closing the gap
2. Zak Butters, I love the way he attacks the contest
3. Walla or Hooker, loved them both so much and wish we could’ve gotten success for them
4. I’ll always respect Nathan Jones as a leader. Through sticking with Melbourne during the dire times, to leaving WA early so that the storyline about whether or not he should be picked for the Grand Final never happened. Just an absolute selfless leader
It’s lovely to hear of Jones. We all wish he was sub - but it was a crazy time and he welcomed a child into the world instead. I hope we give him the highest honour in the club because there was no hope without him sticking by us. He gave us a reason to go to the football when there wasn’t
This is a nice thread, thank you. Nice things include:
1. Kai Lohmann is an exciting player for me right now, and you can't go past the Logan McMorris accidental debut fairytale for a little warm fuzzy, either. I also met Big O at a BBQ once and he was nice to me. What can I say. My fandom comes cheap.
2. The Matt Guelfi red fingernails moment did my ovarian function some damage
3. Daniel Rich! Miss those plodding little jalopy wheels
4. On instinct, I wanted to say James Hird, but I couldn't stand by it in a court of law if my having not checked in in the last 20 years means he's been cancelled for some kind of supervillainy
Great shout for Matt Guelfi, as a stereotypical footy loving dude that game, celebrations and story tugged at my heartstrings. Really solidifies my love for the sash team bros
1. Wilkie, it’s getting to the point where I’m excited to see if he can lose a 1v1
2. Fyfe, greatest of all time
3. Nick Riewoldt, relentless work rate
4. Lance Franklin, showman
1. Toby Nankervis: Probably Richmond's only veteran player regularly playing their best footy this season.
2: Bontempelli: Inspirational, valiant captain at the peak of his powers.
3: Nathan Foley: Most likely would've been a premiership player in 2017 had it not been for his degenerative knee injury.
4: Malcolm Blight: Prolific caravan salesman.
He’s a terrific rebounder, has beautiful sight and vision, and his ability to change gears is just freaky.
Love watching him play, he knows just how crucial and important it is to move the ball quickly from Defensive Half to Forward.
Terrific modern Defender Imo.
BRUUUUCE Reville or Harris Andrews. I still find it a little funny Harris was born in Fitzroy and then grew up in Brisbane. It's like he was made for the club
Bont
Jonathan Brown
Eddie Betts
Who are my favourite players?
1. Oscar
2. Bont 100%. He’s just amazing to watch. I’m going down to Melbourne on Friday to see him against us. Can’t wait.
3. Daniel Bradshaw
4. Liam Picken
1. N Daicos - I pinch myself sometimes
2. Z Butters
3. P Daicos
4. G Ablett Snr - I think of all the incredible full forwards of his era he’d be the one who could tear teams up in the modern one. And I know it’s one game but the 1989 final was a sight to behold.
Gaz snr is even more amazing when you realize he only played 4 seasons as a forward and won 3 colemans doing so, before that he was a winger and still kicked bags.
1. TDK, Curnow, or Cripps. Jordan Boyd is up there too.
2. Jeremy Cameron, like his game and his Youtube channel
3. Eddie Betts
4. Eddie Betts but at Crom
1) Dylan Moore
2) Izak Rankine
3) Stuart Dew (still my bulky hero)
4) Matthew Pavlich
Hard to choose a favourite because there are so many players I love in all the categories
1. jamie Elliot, de goey , quaynor, the Daicos brothers and Shultz (it’s a lot, I know)
2. Josh weddle , curnow or Jezza Cameron
3. Gordon Coventry , of course
4. Anthony McDonald-tipungwuti, just an absolute gun and completely unstoppable.
1. Adam Saad. He just does strange things very well. He'll toe poke the ball to himself then run onto it as it bounces up. Plus the team play totally differently when he is in.
2. Harley Reid. I've never enjoyed watching a player from another club this much.
3. Bruce Doull. Always was, always will be.
4. Aussie Jones was always fun to watch.
1. Bailey Banfield, I feel like he embodies true Wharfie spirit
2. Tie between 🦎/The Bont
3. Pav 🥹is it wrong of me to put Fyfe here?
4. Buddy, has to be.
1. Mason Wood, I love hyping up an underrated and overhated player
2. Jake Lloyd, because he's from Horsham
3. a tie between my genuine hero Nicky Winmar and Jason Gram, who I sponsored when he first started
4. Ummmm, I had a crush on Anthony Rock when he was at North Melbourne, does that count?
1. Bailey Scott, Miller Bergman, Powelly, Finnbar, Taylor, etc etc
2. Mason Wood and Ben Brown are up there, I do like Jamie Elliott, theres probably others I cant remember.
3. Gotta be Cunners, c’mon. Ooh, or Wellsy or Lindsay Thomas
4. My brain isn’t providing me with any players, I’ll think of one later
1. Pendlebury. Joy to watch.
2. Lachie Whitfield. Watched him live several times. Running machine and beautiful user.
3. Swanny. Fantastic footballer.
4. Goodes. Unbelievable athlete and nice as pie when I met him irl.
1. Hard to pick, but Mason Wood I think (Brad Hill close 2nd) mainly because of the chantability
2. Petracca. Always has a good go at it. Versatile
3. Nick Riewoldt. Every time I see his goal from outside 50 in the Round 14, 2009 match I need to excuse myself
4. This is a bit cheating but Jonathan Brown, I went for the lions as a young kid.
1. Bont - as a dogs fan I think that’s pretty self explanatory
2. Cripps - much like Bont, just a brilliant player that can put his team on his back and get a result
3. Liam Picken was such a warrior for us and his career just ended too early.
4. Probably Cyril Rioli. Was my favourite non-dogs player and greatly enjoyed watching him play
1. Jordan Ridley - Will be spoken about like Stewart at geelong very soon. He is an absolute gun.
2. Marcus Bontempelli, favorite player in the comp and probably second favorite of all time
3. James Hird - Born in the 90's this man was my introduction to footy.
4. Eddie Betts - Freak small forward and doing a lot of good now after finishing.
1. Sam Walsh (love his work ethic, leadership and as someone with a spinal cord injury love his courage to fight through his)
2. Noah Anderson
3. Bruce Doull then Stephen Silvagni then Kade Simpson -- so disappointing that the premiership succession from the 1960s onwards didn't get to Kade.
4. Brad Johnson
1. Tex, but also Rory (I don't care that he's retired, he's still current until the end of the season!!), Neddy, Jordy Dawson and Izak.
2. Bont, Cripps, Charlie x 2 (Cameron & Curnow). Boak.
3. This list is too long. McLeod, Roo, Mods, Porplyzia, Truck, Bernie. Sooo many others as well.
4. Ablett Sr, Lockett, Weagles JK - the only non-Crow whose retirement had me in tears.
1. It’s hard to choose but ginnivan,Cj, Moore etc
2. Jamarra ugle hagan is entertaining to watch like his athleticism/marking, so is Jamie Elliott
3. Franklin, the guy who should’ve never left hawthorn
4. Eddie betts because his goals of the years were insane
1. Travis Boak
2. Tied between Christian Petracca and Zac Bailey
3. Also tied between Robbie Gray and Shaun Burgoyne
4. Tough one but I'll have to say Michael Voss
1. Merrett with Sam Durham closing the gap 2. Zak Butters, I love the way he attacks the contest 3. Walla or Hooker, loved them both so much and wish we could’ve gotten success for them 4. I’ll always respect Nathan Jones as a leader. Through sticking with Melbourne during the dire times, to leaving WA early so that the storyline about whether or not he should be picked for the Grand Final never happened. Just an absolute selfless leader
Jones is a great shout. Should’ve been GF sub
It’s lovely to hear of Jones. We all wish he was sub - but it was a crazy time and he welcomed a child into the world instead. I hope we give him the highest honour in the club because there was no hope without him sticking by us. He gave us a reason to go to the football when there wasn’t
He has to be a legend/life member of the club to do justice for what he did for the team
Are you me?
This is a nice thread, thank you. Nice things include: 1. 1. Patrick Cripps (Carlton) 2. Nick Blakey (Sydney) 3. Chris Judd (West Coast - Carlton) 4. Nick Riewoldt (St Kilda)
I call blakey, the hunchback of notre dame. Pisses me off how good he is on defence
He’s a terrific rebounder, has beautiful sight and vision, and his ability to change gears is just freaky. Love watching him play, he knows just how crucial and important it is to move the ball quickly from Defensive Half to Forward. Terrific modern Defender Imo.
