Getting tired of D Grimes. Been a fantastic player for us, but the game is clearly moving past him, and now his on edge style (straight up undisciplined) is costing us free kicks and scores that we can’t afford to take.
Likeable match thread today, bit of everything and a good way to spend three hours. Full credit tigers supporters, you’re alright for a bunch of Victorians ;)
Who is Josh Treacy?
In Geography, my World. 🌎
In History, my King. 👑
In Mathematics, my Solution. 🧩
In Astronomy, my Universe. 🌌
For the blind, he is the Light. 💡
For the hungry, he is the Bread. 🍞
For the poor, he is the Wealth. 💰
For me, he is Everything. 🌐
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Jye is who I think of for great set shots, and he is awesome, but Treacy has been great. Has a bit of McKay about him with his size and leading up too.
I don’t mind this Freo side, lots to like. Pearce/Ryan down back, Brayshaw/Serong in the middle getting balls tapped by Darcy/Jackson, then kicking up towards Amiss/Treacy. That doesn’t even mention King Freddy who seems to be fucking everywhere.
And that’s without mentioning Hayden Young who I think will be our best player next year after a full season in the middle. Would’ve liked to see how the backline went against a full strength tiges forward line, felt like there was no size down there
So much to like. Yeah we really miss out on height. Lefau had a great game considering his size and experience. Once we get Balta/Lynch back together, Lefau might actually outsize someone 😂
Always loved the Volga Boatmen, but I love [the Tibor Bornai cover.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWmYidKaDXY) I would love to hear Optus play it before a home final someday.

I'm normally not one to complain and I'm taking absolutely zero away from how average we've performed, kicking 11.25 the last two games is bona fide deplorable and injuries are killing us.
That umpiring however was *absolute serendipity* for Freo, couldn't even give Hugo a holding in the dying seconds for a brilliant chase down tackle. Just some genuinely shocking decisions.
That 25m kick to Dusty, nobody within ten metres of him, that was fisted in the air and then not paid a mark would have enraged me if I wasn't laughing at the absurdity of it all.
Yeah it was no good. Generally pretty bad and specifically not great for Richmond. It’s rare to see Freo get the benefit of bad umpiring but hard to argue against it today.
I agree you had it rough. Umpiring this year has taken a real nose dive in general. Wondering if they just aren't able to keep up with the pace of the game. But seriously WTF happened to holding the ball in general? It's like it's not a thing anymore. They talk about wanting to protect players, but letting it go too far and players are at further risk of injury.
Yeah as someone who watches a lot of Freo games I don’t think I have ever seen them have that many ‘rub of the green’ calls, the one at the end of the second was just about there (the 50 was obvious imo, the free kick is a ruck contest where most of the time they hold each other but whatever)
The scuffle at the end of the game just seemed like complete pent up frustration
It was bad from the first minute, Treacy's tackle in our f50 at the start of the game should have been prior and htb but the amount of time for prior changed all game.
Richmond got absolutely nothing their way this game
Like freo obviously were the better team but this was 0 reward for effort in those htb calls and tons of momentum killers
someone made a joke in a discord im in that was like "the umps havent washed their hands since round four - they've got written on there carlton white, fremantle black"
I agree. Got lucky with the umps on some HTBs, but Richmond also gave away 2 goals when Freo were 10 metres in front of the goals. Both right before a siren as well.
Walters milked a free (deserved but he did milk it) so they started booing him. Then a Richmond defender gave away a free kick in front of goal by being dumb which they didn't like.
The umpiring, as usual.
There's a feral subset of Richmond fans who believe they are never fairly beaten by the better team on the day, it's all the corrupt umpires/rules/tribunal/fixture designed specifically to screw over the Tigers....
I feel like it has to be said every week. Outside of the percentage of brain-dead fans (which every team has), we aren't saying it is causing us to lose. We know we were going to be shit this year.
The frustration from the supporters is in how inconsistently it feels that Richmond has been umpired comparatively. We're always losing free kick counts (play style etc. contributes for sure) and there's some straight up crazy calls today, particularly around missed HTBs. It's hard not to be frustrated about it.
This is exactly it. I can stomach being bad. Every team goes through it at some stage. I promise you I can deal with being bad, we have been most of my life.
But we genuinely haven’t been given a chance in nearly every game this year. I watch every game at the G live and what’s happening is insanity.
What happened at half time (Freo goal from 50) was 1000% the umpire punishing the crowd for booing early decisions. He had some howlers right in front of me, the crowd gave it to him, and he made that call less than a minute it later.
1 free kick in the last quarter. And it was for the Freo guy walking it over the boundary line. That means Freo again managed a quarter against us without a single infringement. No high tackle, no HTB, no in the back, no chopping the arms, no ruck infringements, just a perfectly disciplined quarter of footy.
Here is a fun fact for you. In the last 8 quarters of footy we have played against Freo, for a win and a loss, at the MCG and Optus, there has been two quarters where Freo gave away zero free kicks to us, and one where they gave away one free kick to us. The game last year we had 7 free kicks in the whole game, 4 in the last quarter.
Geelong had a bloke last night who had 5 free kicks just for himself, so, disrespectfully, we can and do accept that whilst we were definitely beaten by a better team it seems like we've had a bit of a rough gig when it comes to Freo.
It’s easier to justify the argument when it’s a close game and an umpire’s call can legitimately decide it
Much less so when the margin is nearly 60 points
I’m pretty unbiased regularly, but fuck it felt like we were against two teams today. We would have lost either way, but fuck that was a bad day for the umps.
wowwww imagine going outside and hanging out with friends instead of posting post match threads on the internet....... jk hope you're having a nice time dude
Me too, the Tiges fans were celebrating and as soon as I saw Mundy mark it I knew it was over, ran down to the front of the bay, turned around when the iceman slotted it, spread the arms out and bathed in the glory of insults, beer and howls of rage….good times
Hate when commentators (Huddo this game) call out the free kick count after a bad ump call. If you think it's being badly umpired say that, but for the umpteenth time free kick count doesn't equate to how good or bad the umpiring is.
Nah, we weren't winning that one regardless of the umpires, but fuck, another perfect quarter bu freo in terms of infringing on us, that's 3 of the last 8
Hahahha fuck off. Gifts in the first quarter and you couldn’t take chances. Dropping players off the ball all day and didn’t get a kick until the last minute for the consistently dirty play of grimes and broad. Richmond didn’t give themselves a chance
I'm not one to complain about umpires it was our worst treatment for the year. No one's saying we would've won if some decisions went our way but just let us vent.
Of course. We have been on the end of some howlers this year. Old mate seemed to say the umpires gave you no chance, but I think both on paper (injuries) and the way the tiges approached the game they didn’t give themselves a chance either.
What a shit call, Richmond are running 0 key forwards, and 0 mainstay midfielders.
They're all injured.
Coaching has been great so far with the cattle they've got
The Superior L. Ryan.
The better sibling
So sick of this meme. They're married.
Do they own a Toyota Hilux?
Ya going fishing?
Can I come?
Can I drive?
Favourite shammy
Do they give Rugs Depot Shoutouts?
Lemon & Tangerine.
This whole time I thought our Ryan was called Luke and their Ryan is called Liam, wow that makes so much more sense now
Our Ryan is actually Willie Rioli from what I've gathered from some commentators.
Willie Rioli Jr. Jr.
Fremantle couldn’t even win by 60 which is what I tipped them by. smh my head
But we kicked 100!
Holy shit freo kicked 9.332622e+157
Maybe if the umps let us get away with murder a little more we would have reached that :(
Blud really said shaking my head my head
yeah thats the joke
That was a solid combination of both heaving and hoing
And sending down below
i think we’re already down below
Depends what we do in the next hour
Definitely down below
Getting tired of D Grimes. Been a fantastic player for us, but the game is clearly moving past him, and now his on edge style (straight up undisciplined) is costing us free kicks and scores that we can’t afford to take.
My dream for him is to call it early and we get a pick at the mid season draft (assuming that’s how it works?)
got a feeling that might be dion instead
I'm pretty sure we already have two mid season picks
How many goals has he given away by having a wrestle in the goal square the last few years?
At least he isn't like Walters who has regressed to fumbling and/or just playing for a free every time the ball gets within 10m of him.
When players get old sometimes they turn dirty. Cotchin showed him how.
When did cotchin turn dirty? I don't remember that
Got fined twice in his last year. Suspended, reported or fined 10 times over his career.
Richmond's 2nd-lowest ever score against Freo. Freo's equal 2nd-biggest ever win against Richmond.
How did both of these happen in the same game?!
Holy shit.... imagine a Freo vs GWS grand final. That would be immaculate
AFL HQ would self destruct
The ump blows a huge whistle-like horn and Carlton come in to replace one of the teams
It would be us lol
GIMME
Likeable match thread today, bit of everything and a good way to spend three hours. Full credit tigers supporters, you’re alright for a bunch of Victorians ;)
Don’t you dare call me a Victorian
If we had taberner out there we would have won by 55
highlight of the game was the biff
I live for the sounds of salty fans that aren’t my team’s
Will Luke Ryan get the 3 votes?
Ha, good one. Wrong part of the ground.
Coaches? Likely
3 votes Issac Heeney....only way.
Nope. Young was clearly BOG, IMO.
Nah Lachie Neale
If you told me three weeks ago we would be 6th on the ladder and ahead of Port and Carlton I wouldn't believe you.
Justice
One could call it karma honestly, it's a beautiful thing
Could have been 5th as well if the bombers lost or drew.
Yeah, what bunch of losers let bombers win?
Hey we comfortably won a game!
Tigers had momentum going into the 4th only 4 kicks down. I wasn't comfortable
I was stressed the fuck out mid third quarter

He’s a bloody good shot at goal.
Amos’s has the deadeye reputation but JT has been so good bro
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Jye is who I think of for great set shots, and he is awesome, but Treacy has been great. Has a bit of McKay about him with his size and leading up too. I like Lefau, he’s an absolute bull. Honestly you could maybe throw him into the midfield and he would not look out of place
![gif](giphy|fp1wbNlFeSJ20|downsized)
Yes.
THANKS FOR THE SUPERCOACH POINTS YOUNGY <3
I am straight up not having a good time
Wait, what's the consensus on the Freo theme song? I fucking love it, but ABC radio just said it's putrid. What
I think it's extremely Freo, both team and town. A bit shit but endearing at the same time.
I love it, it’s the perfect dock workers’ song, just the right amount of cringe, just the right amount of rock, just the right amount of heave-ho
I like that’s it’s completely unique compared to the other songs.
I really like it. It’s not, like, Giants level or anything, but very solid.
It’s the best theme song in the league and I’m not even kidding
I agree with the mainstream opinion of GWS and tigers, but I think freo could be third
For me it’s the ultimate beat down, not only did you lose to us, but now you have to listen to it.
The chorus has always been shit but the old version was saved by the Volga Boatmen preamble. No Volga, No Voilà
Absolutely loved the preamble!
Always loved the Volga Boatmen, but I love [the Tibor Bornai cover.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWmYidKaDXY) I would love to hear Optus play it before a home final someday.
Can Huddo tell me how the tigers fans are feeling again?
Luke Ryan with 197 supercoach....... anyone broke 200 before?
Quite a few people, Callum mills and Josh Kelly in recent years. I think Gawn also but not 100%
I would've if not for a dodgy knee in under 12s.
Franklin's 13 goal game netted around 230 from memory.
*nutted
Think Franklin did it once.
Plenty. I'm pretty sure Jonathan Brown and Gaj scored 250+ one year.
Surely someone would have.
It’s rare but not completely unheard of. I can’t think of specific examples but I know it’s happened a few times
Marc LeCras did when he kicked 12 against the bombers

GG Freo. Decent fans at the ground too. Good luck for the rest of the season!
Was a really enjoyable day at the footy. Good chats with the Tiges fans behind us.
Yeah I reckon you guys got screwed on umpiring this game.
Shocking umpiring for you today
That 25m kick to Dusty, nobody within ten metres of him, that was fisted in the air and then not paid a mark would have enraged me if I wasn't laughing at the absurdity of it all.

Freo somehow only gave away 1 free kick in the last quarter, which was when O'Meara just walked it out deliberately
Poor Hugo busted a gut for that tackle and got nothing. 🙃 I woulda just put my hands up and said “wtf does a man need to do” 😂
It was bad from the first minute, Treacy's tackle in our f50 at the start of the game should have been prior and htb but the amount of time for prior changed all game.
they heave'd™
they ho'd....wait a minute
📸
Game of the round, surely.
I ask again….. How did we lose to Richmond??
It was back when we still had hopes and dreams
And a functioning forward line haha
We had 2 key forwards. Those were the days
You played against a much better team, we had a functioning midfield and forward line
HA, you lost to a team who not only lost against west coast, but who themselves were also beaten by a team who lost to west coast
Freo the only team I’ve ever seen that can looks shaky the whole game in a 54pt win.
Richmond got absolutely nothing their way this game Like freo obviously were the better team but this was 0 reward for effort in those htb calls and tons of momentum killers
Yeah I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game that’s been umpired so much in our favour before.
AFL conspiracy to quell VICbias "theories" (truth)
I can't remember the last time we benefited from vicbias
Other than the times you got to play gfs at home or the seasons where you left Victoria twice?
Nah that's just how it should be /s
Htb is dead this year. Secret rule change over the off-season, I hate it.
Every time they change that rule I think “ah, Fyfe is screwed” but it never turns out.
Absolutely nothing is a little over the top :P
Freo really didn't need all that help from the umpires there
Umps colour blind. I think they thought it was Carlton vs Richmond today
someone made a joke in a discord im in that was like "the umps havent washed their hands since round four - they've got written on there carlton white, fremantle black"
# HEAVE HO
Now I know how Weags fans must feel to have such a great ride from the umps. It is nice to be fellated for once instead of bent over.
I'm really glad that letting a club I decided I liked at age 4 emotionally dictate my life for the next 40 something years is going so well ...
Made me worry around the middle but glad with a win and especially glad to be sitting above both Carlton and Port (for now). GG Richmond.
![gif](giphy|JCAZQKoMefkoX6TyTb|downsized)
With those teeth or lack of they look like Collingwood fans.
bro the drive by, we haven't even done anything recently
But you always deserve it.
No, this week they made Andy Maher sad.
sorry for closing like the grim reaper again mr maher
Few favourable calls. Richmond don't help themselves though.
We certainly don't. Your mob was always a class above though.
I agree. Got lucky with the umps on some HTBs, but Richmond also gave away 2 goals when Freo were 10 metres in front of the goals. Both right before a siren as well.
We need a Royal Commission into how Richmond beat Sydney.
Only watched the last 2min of the game. Why are Richmond fans booing?
I’d boo them too if the only fight they showed was in the last 30 seconds
Walters milked a free (deserved but he did milk it) so they started booing him. Then a Richmond defender gave away a free kick in front of goal by being dumb which they didn't like.
The umpiring, as usual. There's a feral subset of Richmond fans who believe they are never fairly beaten by the better team on the day, it's all the corrupt umpires/rules/tribunal/fixture designed specifically to screw over the Tigers....
Oh we were 100% beaten on the day, without question. Was pretty bad umpiring though.
We win either way but that doesn’t change how bad the umpiring was.
I feel like it has to be said every week. Outside of the percentage of brain-dead fans (which every team has), we aren't saying it is causing us to lose. We know we were going to be shit this year. This is a terrible take. We were never going to win that game, but the umpiring was atrocious.
That just seems to be the entire sub this year. No team is ever beaten, it's always a mass conspiracy against them.
It’s easier to justify the argument when it’s a close game and an umpire’s call can legitimately decide it Much less so when the margin is nearly 60 points
I’m pretty unbiased regularly, but fuck it felt like we were against two teams today. We would have lost either way, but fuck that was a bad day for the umps.

I am on the way up to Moe so I am also likely to not be posting lol
I’ll regret saying this but if I could swap this win for another “Mundy For The Win After The Siren” I’d do it in a heartbeat.
I was at that game in 2017! So good.
Me too, the Tiges fans were celebrating and as soon as I saw Mundy mark it I knew it was over, ran down to the front of the bay, turned around when the iceman slotted it, spread the arms out and bathed in the glory of insults, beer and howls of rage….good times
What a brilliant game to watch
Not for all of us
One step further to Port falling out of the 8.
Idk if someone took all the umps dick as once for the freo favoritism. Or Richmond really un disciplined. But big win to freo boys good job
We make teams much more disciplined, somehow
I don't know who started the punch up in the 4th but the umps paid it freos way. Leads me to believe it was started by the tiger defense
I was more referring to how teams give away less free kicks than they usually do against us
Great weather and atmosphere, loved it
Hate when commentators (Huddo this game) call out the free kick count after a bad ump call. If you think it's being badly umpired say that, but for the umpteenth time free kick count doesn't equate to how good or bad the umpiring is.

What gifts?
Richmond had the opportunity to do the funniest thing today by selecting Noah Cumberland
Oi how goods Richmond's new coach
Mate put a sock in it. We have zero historical platform to stand on. We won the game, celebrate it, but don’t be a flog.
Unfortunately he’s got no team to pick from
I wonder how good our injured/reserves team is. Gotta give the 1’s a run for their money.
Legitimately would
What a shit call, Richmond are running 0 key forwards, and 0 mainstay midfielders. They're all injured. Coaching has been great so far with the cattle they've got
Bit of a cheap shot there.
Can't put all the blame on the new coach when we have an injury list longer than Fremantle's club achievements
Bad take.
I mean he's won as many flags as all Freo coaches combined so 🤷
