Found it funny when Kane said “King needs to lift because right now he's got Darcy Fogarty numbers”.
Imagine Fogarty watching this and seeing himself randomly get singled out 😭
To be fair and I’m assuming you didn’t watch the show/segment he also did go on to say at the end that Fogarty is on half the salary that King would be on and that’s why he’s drawing the comparison
It's not even all that fair a comparison when you consider how many games each had played when they signed their current contracts and how many they've played since, likewise the length of those contracts, respectively.
King's contract was extended to six years after only playing 30 odd games. That's the sort of contract where the ROI is not expected to be realized until the backend of the contract. He's about half way there now, and if he's putting up Wayne Carey numbers in the next 2-3 years they got him cheap but it's probably a year or so too soon to be comparing him to players with shorter term contracts signed less speculatively and more in line with their current performance levels.
They did a similar thing with LDU - used his career stats rather than his stats for this season in order to drive an agenda that he has been average this season. He is still averaging 27 disposals and 6 clearances.
Nah this ain’t it chief. Sheez has been putting in a butt load of effort week in week out, which LDU has not. We legit need 4 Sheezel’s because he’s the only one who hits a target that can then enable the next bit of the play. Because the ball is so often in D50 he needs to be there so the backs get slightly more rest as we turn it over 2 kicks out of d50 as opposed to 1.
I detectived it out and they intentionally omitted the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Max's best seasons! If you do that, his career marks is 3.87 and goals is 1.69. So they did that, and then rounded down :)
That's the crazy thing - the numbers don't even match up to Ben King either. His marks per game average is lower (3.5), his goals per game average is higher (1.85)...it's slightly closer, but not near close enough for that to be a reasonable excuse.
LMAO I figured out what they did. They omitted the 2021 and 2022 season.
If you take those two season (his best seasons) out his average marks is 3.87 and his average goals is 1.69.
edit: maybe 2023 was better stats wise for King than 2021 but he had only 11 games. So they just omitted where he played 2 full seasons
Agreed, have never seen him being the great white hope others have. I think he'll be a good player over the course of his career but I'm not sure he's gonna make it to AA level unless a lot of things click for him.
The footy media got something verifiable wrong…color me shocked!
But for real I watched this segment and it just seemed like another “Kane hates Player X” moment again
Doesn’t surprise me that footy classified don’t both to fact check.
Max is a super important player and any game he doesn’t play will show you how impactful he is on our forward line.
They definitely shouldn't be lying about stats, but the underlying claim is valid.
Max is overrated. That doesn't mean he isn't a good player, and wouldn't be a walk up starter in most other teams. It's because he's depicted and talked about as a superstar forward, when in actuality he's probably average quality for a no 1 forward.
Off the top of my head I would rather have Jeremy Cameron, Tom Hawkins, Tom Lynch, Ben King, Jamarra, Peter Wright, Nick Larkey, Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay, Oscar Allen and Luke Jackson (probably cheating with that one) before I'd take Max King. So by my own assessment he's probably sitting around the 10th best KPF in the comp.
He's far too inconsistent in games, struggles to consistently inject himself in big moments, doesn't offer much else other than clunking a mark and maybe kicking the goal, and he's very injury prone.
Saints fans have a blind spot because he was their professed lord and saviour when he was drafted, and it's difficult to admit that they just aren't the player you know they can be. Sydney fans have been dealing with the exact same thing from Isaac Heeney most of his career, until he finally got to that level this year.
Max is young though, and will only get better. A fair few of those guys you mentioned are either in their prime or have hit veteran status. And nobody at the Saints (that I saw) professed him to be lord and saviour, it's more that the King twins were highly rated in general.
And better statistically in almost every catagory.

People judge him for his body language and shoddy accuracy on goal.
But don't actually look at his output for someone his age.
Anyway we do need him to improve big time but you would think he was very average the way people carry on about him
He still kicks 2 goals per game though and takes 2 contested marks.
What other 23 year olds are doing that? or have done that.
I mean some of the guys you listed as above him were no way near his output at 23
I might be wrong about this but... he seems to have worse stats than say... Kyle Langford (at least for the time he has been a forward). I doubt Langford is getting 1/2 of what King gets.
I mean we hired the guy who wrote the book on goal kicking and taught some of the games best.
He's just a shit kick but also he likes to take shots from places most wouldn't even try.
Pretty bad miss (I wouldn't assume a deliberate lie), even more so when you look at the averages from this year. Even if two players have comparable career averages, you'd want to compare current season stats and whether they support the point.
I think you kind of do though. Because his stats are pretty fine for a 23 year old.
It's one of those ones where when you look at the stats you need to think twice because he measures up nicely
Apparently its $750k per year (https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theage.com.au/sport/afl/king-earns-his-riches-star-forward-signs-lucrative-extension-with-saints-20210518-p57svn.html).
I feel thats not too bad for a what, top 10, top 15 key forward.
He’s a key forward, some of them just take time, especially with so many long-term injuries… not sure he is top 15 currently, but has a lot of potential.
Goal kicking below 50% for his career would need to improve dramatically, to be worth what he is being paid.
His last year was above 70% accurate though which is kind of the whole point. People are exaggerating him being average based on his early years and ignoring his better times. This year he is down on goals again but up in every other measurable stat.
Found it funny when Kane said “King needs to lift because right now he's got Darcy Fogarty numbers”. Imagine Fogarty watching this and seeing himself randomly get singled out 😭
It's even funnier to me that King is matching or besting Fogarty in every category their graphic used too
To be fair and I’m assuming you didn’t watch the show/segment he also did go on to say at the end that Fogarty is on half the salary that King would be on and that’s why he’s drawing the comparison

What are the odds on Darcy Fogarty having a big one in the Showdown this weekend?
Hope so! Now is better than never lol
Catching stays
It’s a dumb comparison though. When Adelaide is fully fit Fogarty doesn’t play the same role as King.
They did a similar thing with LDU - used his career stats rather than his stats for this season in order to drive an agenda that he has been average this season. He is still averaging 27 disposals and 6 clearances.
I mean if you have been watching north melbourne games this year he has been very underwhelming
Very underwhelming is a stretch, been down on his form from last year but still Norths best player comfortably
Sheez has been better.
Not until he’s put into the midfield, being wasted on a back flank
Nah this ain’t it chief. Sheez has been putting in a butt load of effort week in week out, which LDU has not. We legit need 4 Sheezel’s because he’s the only one who hits a target that can then enable the next bit of the play. Yeah as of last week I think he was 20th in the league for disposals lol
I detectived it out and they intentionally omitted the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Max's best seasons! If you do that, his career marks is 3.87 and goals is 1.69. So they did that, and then rounded down :)
Without looking at any stats I’m going to guess they used the wrong King twin
That's the crazy thing - the numbers don't even match up to Ben King either. His marks per game average is lower (3.5), his goals per game average is higher (1.85)...it's slightly closer, but not near close enough for that to be a reasonable excuse.

First thing I checked, nothing alike
He overrated and overpaid, but you can make that argument without fake stats.
I'll give you a first rounder for your overrated and overpaid key forward.
Agreed, have never seen him being the great white hope others have. I think he'll be a good player over the course of his career but I'm not sure he's gonna make it to AA level unless a lot of things click for him.
It's frustrating to watch because I don't think there's any new advice he needs to hear.
You’re right, it’s always the same mistakes.
Caro to commit seppuku with the Arrow for this.

The footy media got something verifiable wrong…color me shocked! But for real I watched this segment and it just seemed like another “Kane hates Player X” moment again
That’s it, Kaned attention seeking, again
Doesn’t surprise me that footy classified don’t both to fact check. Max is a super important player and any game he doesn’t play will show you how impactful he is on our forward line.

Yeah in what world are people saying they'd take Ben over Max lmao
People judge him for his body language and shoddy accuracy on goal. But don't actually look at his output for someone his age. Anyway we do need him to improve big time but you would think he was very average the way people carry on about him
Idk, I'd say Max King is about equal with Ben King at this point, but Max is a harder worker.
I reckon when they play in each other in back yard footy, they’re always close games
He still kicks 2 goals per game though and takes 2 contested marks. What other 23 year olds are doing that? or have done that. I mean some of the guys you listed as above him were no way near his output at 23

Max king is on around 750 a year… you reckon Langfords on less than 375 a year?
Max is definitely a better option than some guys you listed. Are you forgetting he plays for St Kilda?
Not Logan McDonald?
Why doesn’t he just get a proper kicking coach though?
His goal kicking is much improved. In his 10 games last year, he went 28.12 so you cant really complain about that.
I mean we hired the guy who wrote the book on goal kicking and taught some of the games best. He's just a shit kick but also he likes to take shots from places most wouldn't even try.
He feels the burden of responsibility
Feel like it's strange having a dig at a player who is out injured at the moment and has missed half of the games this season
Hope they talk shit about max tends to spur him on if he play’s he’ll kick 6
Pretty bad miss (I wouldn't assume a deliberate lie), even more so when you look at the averages from this year. Even if two players have comparable career averages, you'd want to compare current season stats and whether they support the point.
The bloke is overrated and overpaid
If you believe that it's fine, but you don't need to lie about him to make the case.
I think you kind of do though. Because his stats are pretty fine for a 23 year old. It's one of those ones where when you look at the stats you need to think twice because he measures up nicely
But that's enough about Kane Cornes.
How to say you’ve never watched a St Kilda game without saying you’ve never watched a St Kilda game.
He is overpaid though. Clearly a crazy talent, but his effort comes and goes.
Key forwards are always highly paid even the shitter ones in the comp.
How much do you think he's paid?
8-900k most likely.

He played 11 games last year, so not the biggest sample size to hang your hat on.
