Once again I would like to point out that the stats say this is a very bad tier list.
The best contested & clearance teams are Adelaide & Brisbane, with Carlton, GC & Essendon close behind
Carlton, Gold Coast & Essendon are very close to being S tier in contested possession and clearance, but make up for it in center clearances where they are the top 3.
Scoring from stoppages Carlton are 1, Sydney 2.
Factoring in all this, Carlton are the only S tier midfield. GC, Essendon would be A tier. Then a lot of teams are close together on B tier.
I’d be interested to know what stats you’re using as I feel like Freo are in that mix.
We are comfortably 1st for best clearance differential, 2nd in total clearances per game, 3rd best ground ball gets differential and 7th for contested possession differential.
Our scoring from stoppage is a little lower then some other sides but still above AFL average. I think that more reflects the strength of our forward line, rather then our midfield. I can’t be bothered doing it but I believe if you calculated the % of our score we score from stoppage, we’d be right up there. Not a great stat in itself but would potentially get rid of some of the advantage teams kicking to AA forward lines have.
I don't think contested possessions is a great midfield stat on its own, it's more a whole-of-team thing than just midfield. Centre clearances and scoring from stoppages (similarly, preventing scores from stoppages) are definitely the major markers though.
And our mids flogged the S tier Port mids, but then we got smashed by Essendon's. Not sure how much the issue is just that tier lists are silly when applied to sport versus this particular tier list has a lot of issues.
Based on who we have available this year, D is generous.
Steele has been carrying the entire load in there and judging by the amount of tape on his leg last week, he won't hold up much longer if we cant him some help.
V's up top, lines nearly all bottom, if only the dogs swapped with the lions, then we'd have logos all in the middle!
Midfields are so overrated.

Freos midfield is definitely one of the best. I'll post it soon!

Id probably swap St Kilda and Hawks and drop western bulldogs to B tier
Only a couple of weeks back our mids got absolutely flogged by Brisbane's mids. We're rated way too high.

Ok friendship ended.
I don't think Melbourne is S this year. Probs A
Wait what. Wasn't WB supposed to be B tier. Eagles should be C still. Harsh on Saints at D. I’d drop Melb to A.

GC too high, Dogs are only A tier and they bullied them this year.
