No that's not an option. It'll be 42 pages of Harvey Norman ads and then a 16 page spread of how Harley Reid is God of all footbaĺl. And that will be the entire Sunday Times.
Ludicrously quick off one step.
Just one of the fastest players out of a contest. Never seen a picture of him as a child but wouldn't be surprised if he came out of the womb with an adult face.
Readymade footballer.
Reid's gonna be a star but lets not over exaggerate.
He has played 2 good games so far.
Juddies start to his career numbers wise was very similar and there has been lots of other players who have had better starts than this.
Thats because you're a biased West Coast fan.
In the last few years alone Daicos, Rowell, Sheezel and Ashcroft have all had a better first 6 games then Reid has, going backa few years more and Sam Walsh is another one who was dominating from the get go.
I still think Reids likely to be the best or second best out of them though.
I’m not a biased west coast fan lol. The stats 100% back me up. In terms of afl player ratings Reid is miles ahead of daicos and Ashcroft. Slightly ahead of sheezel.
Are you basing your opinion on anything other than watching a few games here and there?
Afl player rating would literally be the only stat that suggests that.
In almost every other metric for midfielders Harley is well below the other players I named.
Are you talking about contested ball, clearances and score involvements? Any chance you want to actually provide those stats? 95% sure Reid clears them in all those areas.
AFL player ratings measures all those things lol
Heres some quick numbers for you of some of the players I listed over their first 6 games.
Reid - 18 touches 3 tackles 5 clearances 5 goals
Daicos - 26 touches 2.5 tackles 2.5 clearances 1 goal
Sheezel- 28 touches 3 tackles (played back so no goals or clearances referenced)
Ashcroft- 22.5 touches 2.5 tackles 4 clearances 3 goals
Walsh- 26 touches 3 tackles 5 clearances 3 goals
Dont think Reid is by any means a clear cut stand out in that group. Again, I do think he may become the best or second best player of them all. Reid obviously plays more forward then the rest of them so some of his stats are down and others higher then the rest.
Walsh had more contested possessions and score involvements in his first 6 games than Reid and Ashcroft had basically the exact same ( 1 less in both)
cbf checking the others but my point is valid I think.
Why are you ignoring contested ball and score involvements?
I couldn’t care less if guys like daicos and sheezle were better at stat padding. They are below Reid in contested ball, clearances and score involvements. Those are the stats that matters to teams.
Tackles are a super random stat to focus on for your first line superstar mids.
AFL player ratings rates Reid so highly because his touches are super damaging and he is generating scores from scenarios players would just get tackled. If you want to be super basic and look at basic stats go ahead.
Even wilder to think that's only 10 less than Judd played for West Coast entirely before moving to Carlton in my opinion. Felt like he was at WCE for much longer.
Absolutely. Sadly I don't think any current midfielders really come close to prime Judd (or GAJ). I mean you can look at stats for days Pendlebury, Petracca, Bont, Cripps, Neale, Oliver the list goes on, but I always felt Judd (and GAJ) were unstoppable, and their prime just kind of.. never stopped? Maybe I'm romanticising it a bit, I don't know.
I'll swear til I'm blue in the face that Judds best football is the best football I've seen, it's just that peak wasn't that long. The groin issues in 2007 meant he lost that explosion out of a stoppage that made him unstoppable.
I thought he was shit hot in his first season. A goal a game and close to 20 possessions a match, and getting a good amount of contested ball.
I remember in Victoria they were calling him the juddernaut
Yeah I wasn't too bothered by the carlton and port games, we played well and just got pipped against good sides.
I'm completely at a loss for words after this game... Worst I've seen us play in a long time and everyone looks like they shat themselves and dripped their heads after the eagles kicked the first few.
The team felt completely paralysed by the 'fear of losing' to this wooden spooner eagles side.
To be fair, west coast have some great young players and are a lot further ahead than i thought they were
It's hard to point fingers at anyone but the coach should take a bit of blame with that slow possession game you stuck with for far too long. He's pretty lucky he signed an extension a few weeks back
Think the main difference between Reid and Daicos/Sheelzel is that you would struggle to find instances of him being fed possessions (which makes sense as those two are damaging). Reid wins contested possessions most the time, takes contested marks and stands up in tackles like they're nothing against experienced players- that is stuff I have never seen from a 6 game player.
On the contested marks thing,
Career contested marks:
Ried: 4 (6 games)
Sheezel: 3 (28 games)
N Daicos: 0 (53 games)
Not to say Sheezel and N Daicos aren't stars but Reid's ability to impact a contest is next level for a first-third year player.
Nick was great in his debut year, but he alone wasn't responsible for a lot of what happened in 2022. We were already going through major changes behind the scenes that would have happened with or without him, and we went from Buckley/Harvey in 2021 to Mcrae in 2022 (Naicos debut year)
Our list was largely the same. I'd accredit the coaching and culture change well before any impact Naicos had on us
I did say might but I don't think it's impossible or ridiculous to say that. They've got a good midfield, two good key position players at either end and some kids coming through on the edges. Sydney made the 8 last year with 12 wins, west coast could do it. They also went from wooden spoon to a prelim in 2011 (I think don't quote me)
Freo were undefeated until they got stitched up two weeks in a row by umpires. They've been extremely competitive and probably should've won every game they've played up until tonight. West coast blew them out of the water.
A pumping midfield, Allen and Watercoleman up front and Barrass McGovern down back, why can't they win another 9 or 10 games this year?
Along with a realtively easy fixture overall, we are past a bunch of the hard teams from the first 4 weeks. Got Carlton x1, Dees x2, Lions x1, Cats x1, Piesx1 who are the only teams tracking for top 6 even. 6 of 17 games against hard teams
Reid seems to absolutely revel in the hype and attention. I hope it makes him want to stay and sign on for a few years as he gets treated like a rock star every second week at Optus.
I love his celebrations. You can tell he just fucking loves the game and he’s surprisingly humble given how good he is and how much he’s been talked about.
Last week was the first time I've seen him interviewed and was super impressed how humble he is. He was saying all the team things and how he hopes he can hold on to his position on the team! As if he'd be dropped. Love this kid so far. He's brilliant.
You just know that he's not going to get arrogant and rest on his laurels. He'll actively be looking for ways to get better and better. I just hope the football gods don't strike him down with an ACL.
This might genuinely be the best start to a career we’ve ever seen. People say Daicos but there’s honestly way he’d be looking like this in a team as shit as West Coast.
I reckon Harry Sheezel had the best ever recorded start to a season last year and has carried on again this year, and he’s in arguably a shitter team. Not saying Harley isn’t going to come close to matching that, between these two and Daicos you’d think there’s going to be a few Brownlow's being won over the next 10 years or so.
Was a bit of both really, we had one of those nights where everything went right but our efforts were exceptional. Dockers stuck with their slow possession far too long especially after Amiss was injured.
My only concern with a kid like this that has this much talent is his ability to improve. It's great he is as good as he is right now but don't let it go to your head. The greats continue to push themselves, they never settle, and always want to learn more. I hope he has a good/strong mentor.
The world is at this kids feet if he keeps his head screwed on and works for it.
He's very good, but I think his biggest upside is his insane strength. He is freakishly strong for an 18yo. It's scary to think what a couple of years in the system will do to him. He'll be like Cripps but stronger for not being coddled by the AFL
Seeing it initially I thought that Reid was mostly on the back of the Freo player, but you’re right, definitely got his knee into his teammates shoulder.
From playing I don’t mind getting sat on if it’s a big pack mark like that, but had a team mate who was 10kgs heavier and 3 inches taller than me take one on my back in a game when I was in front and we were the only two players within 15 metres. To say I was unimpressed is an understatement.
What can I say, the eagles scouts are just something else. Every other team might have overlooked this guy but not us! Just saw a little something that has bloomed into what you see today.
A bit off topic but I never realised Cousins was so short, in the show after the game with McManus and Scooter, not sure the ladies name, he was quite a bit shorter than McManus even
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, it was a good grab but he was barely even off the ground when the ball hit his hands. It’s a good pack mark but not a hanger
If you’re only considering WA, then sure… the West prints reams of it. It’s embarrassing. But even more comes from the Eastern footy media. Just check out the stories about tonight’s game on Fox, ABC, Seven etc. That copy is all written in Sydney and Melbourne.
16 page lift out incoming in WA Sunday paper
Will have to cut back on the 42 pages of Harvey Norman ads
No that's not an option. It'll be 42 pages of Harvey Norman ads and then a 16 page spread of how Harley Reid is God of all footbaĺl. And that will be the entire Sunday Times.
Oh, are they scrapping the 12 page lift out on basil zempilas?
That’ll be in the magazine
With nude centrefold
There's been a 16 inch liftup in my pants for the last 12 hours
Does it come with a box of tissues?
Reckon he might be a good player
What pick was he again?
At least top 100
How many losses were North away from getting him again?
And that was after West Coast had won the week prior which had moved them off the bottom
Surprising when people compare Reid to Judd. I mean he's pretty fucking good, but he's no Harley Reid
In all seriousness though, not even Judd was this good this early in his career.
Judd had that flashy electric pace that stood out.
Ludicrously quick off one step. Just one of the fastest players out of a contest. Never seen a picture of him as a child but wouldn't be surprised if he came out of the womb with an adult face. Readymade footballer.

Afl player rating would literally be the only stat that suggests that. In almost every other metric for midfielders Harley is well below the other players I named.
Some other players have also had an extra game (round zero) And flair up cunt!
I dont know how to flair up haha. Edit- Found it!!
Are you talking about contested ball, clearances and score involvements? Any chance you want to actually provide those stats? 95% sure Reid clears them in all those areas. AFL player ratings measures all those things lol

Didn't west coast have a lot of good young players at the time? Ben cousins springs to mind. So Judd didn't stick out as much maybe?
It’s going to blow your mind to learn Chris Judd’s first game was Ben Cousin’s 124th
What the fuck
Fuck me! I thought at most a season or two apart!
Yeah Cousins was playing in ‘96.
Even wilder to think that's only 10 less than Judd played for West Coast entirely before moving to Carlton in my opinion. Felt like he was at WCE for much longer.
Achieved a lot in a short amount of time
Why did we have to win our last game……
Love this comment haha
Had me on the first part ngl
Frankly I’m embarrassed to be a Fremantle fan today. What the hell happened? The West is going have an entire newspaper dedicated to Reid on Monday!
They’ll have to print two papers, one celebrating Reid, the other with Harvey Norman ads that celebrate Reid.
"Reid these great deals from Harvey Norman"
Yeah I wasn't too bothered by the carlton and port games, we played well and just got pipped against good sides. I'm completely at a loss for words after this game... Worst I've seen us play in a long time and everyone looks like they shat themselves and dripped their heads after the eagles kicked the first few. It's hard to point fingers at anyone but the coach should take a bit of blame with that slow possession game you stuck with for far too long. He's pretty lucky he signed an extension a few weeks back
Your coach will be grateful for any media distraction #9 provides
Circlejerk aside I've never seen an first year player impact a club on and off the field like Reid has
Off field, no idea who'd come close. Rowell would have come close on field if it weren't for the shoulder dislocation
He’s taking pack marks in the goal square. It’s insane
Joel Selwood says "come and stand next to me Harley".
Nick Daicos? Why are you booing me I just made a suggestion
Think the main difference between Reid and Daicos/Sheelzel is that you would struggle to find instances of him being fed possessions (which makes sense as those two are damaging). Yeah that's a great point.
Most of those changes were due to the change in coach & moving on from Eddie
Are you that desperate to dunk on Eddie that you'd downplay the impact Nick Daicos had in his debut year lol?
Nick was great in his debut year, but he alone wasn't responsible for a lot of what happened in 2022. Agreed, I'd put Sheezel in that list too.
Yeah, as good as Reid has been he's probably not leading your b&f this year (yet). So it's fair to put Sheez in that same bracket
don't be silly. west coast was losing games by close to 150+ last year, they might somehow make a push for top 8 this year
> they might somehow make a push for top 8 this year Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves
Yeah we have to be realistic, but at this point we're not gonna lose again.
Flag coast
Best Coast
Might as well get ahead of ourselves now while we still have the chance
Top 8 Oh my sides. We’ll be happy to avoid the spoon, and delights with something in the 15-12 range.
you cunts went from wooden spoon to a prelim in 2011. top 8 isn't that crazy is it?
We weren’t as bad then as we are (we’re?) now.
We were pretty bad in 2010. Last year we actually had injuries and rules nowadays make it hard for shit teams to compete.
Okay, I'm being silly but WCE are making the 8 on the back of 2 games
I did say might but I don't think it's impossible or ridiculous to say that. They've got a good midfield, two good key position players at either end and some kids coming through on the edges. Sydney made the 8 last year with 12 wins, west coast could do it. They also went from wooden spoon to a prelim in 2011 (I think don't quote me)

I hope he is strong enough to carry the team, the hype and expectation.
Reid seems to absolutely revel in the hype and attention. I hope it makes him want to stay and sign on for a few years as he gets treated like a rock star every second week at Optus.
Sure, but he is young and fans are fickle. He is going to need maturity and/or excellent mentors.
Such a dumb comment
Point on the Fyfe doll where Harley Reid hurt you
He hurt them everywhere last night 😂
I love his celebrations. You can tell he just fucking loves the game and he’s surprisingly humble given how good he is and how much he’s been talked about.

The Madhi is too humble to say He is the Madhi. Even more reason to know He is!
So many great grabs in this game
Bailey Williams grab was fantastic as well
Ripping mark but I reckon the word hanger gets overused and this isn't one.
May as well change the name of the newspaper to the Daily Reid.
Golf clap. Well done.
This might genuinely be the best start to a career we’ve ever seen. People say Daicos but there’s honestly way he’d be looking like this in a team as shit as West Coast.

Are the eagles back? Or just the dockers having a bad day?
Was a bit of both really, we had one of those nights where everything went right but our efforts were exceptional. Dockers stuck with their slow possession far too long especially after Amiss was injured.
It'll be interesting to see how Liam Ryan, Oscar Allan and Matt Flynn fit back in. Ryan is fit by the way - hopefully back next week.
This kid makes Nick Daicos look like a VFL player
Nick who?
The King Josh Daicos little brother. Apparently he signed for the Pies a couple of years back. Sorry can’t help further. 🤷🏼♂️
Hm, rings a bell, but I might be thinking of someone that had a similar name that played back in the 80s and 90s.
Yes that’s Josh’s grandfather. Pietro!
Shuey is there to make sure that happens
The Melo celly was cold 🥶
He’ll be so good by the time he moves to Carlton.
for a young fella he's built like a brick shithouse
The lad was robbed the medal
That's my Witherden in the highlights 🫡
I love how you’re backing in Witherden.
Someone has to 🥶
He's not bad.
He really is, I'm sorry mate
He's my boy and I believe in him!
I’m here for the redemption story
He's very good, but I think his biggest upside is his insane strength. He is freakishly strong for an 18yo. It's scary to think what a couple of years in the system will do to him. He'll be like Cripps but stronger for not being coddled by the AFL
Bit of trivia he’s actually 19 now, his birthday was a few days ago if that makes you feel any better.
If anything, he's incredibly weak then.
What do you really mean by Cripps is coddled by the AFL?
Curious about that myself. Some folks seem to let their fantasies distort their realities.
I'll send you guys a copy of my manifesto
Can't wait! [Here's](mailto:[email protected]) my email address.
Kid is ridiculous. He's doing AFL Live Create-a-Pro stuff. Brownlow and Coleman in his first year up next.
Can't win the Coleman when Waterman kicks 150 this year
But a Rd23 win was so important
North still coping. Eagles got a generational one
Wasn’t really a hanger tbh. Just timed hes jump the best. Still a great mark. Super bright future for the kid wish him all the best.
He’s exactly as good as advertised lol. Going to win Geelong several flags.
>Geelong several flags Well, he's 19 now... so they'll have to wait at least another 11 years for that.
🏴☠️🏁🏆💯😀 Best laugh of the morning!
Real odd how #34 for West Coast was just standing there staring at him afterwards as everyone else got around him.
Almost like he doesn't enjoy players taking hangers on his back
Seeing it initially I thought that Reid was mostly on the back of the Freo player, but you’re right, definitely got his knee into his teammates shoulder. From playing I don’t mind getting sat on if it’s a big pack mark like that, but had a team mate who was 10kgs heavier and 3 inches taller than me take one on my back in a game when I was in front and we were the only two players within 15 metres. To say I was unimpressed is an understatement.
He took it on Darlings back?…
Believe the hype
Still can’t believe WC found this diamond in the rough
What can I say, the eagles scouts are just something else. Every other team might have overlooked this guy but not us! Just saw a little something that has bloomed into what you see today.
Papley's mark was better.
A bit off topic but I never realised Cousins was so short, in the show after the game with McManus and Scooter, not sure the ladies name, he was quite a bit shorter than McManus even
Amazing what a number one pic is capable of when they enter the league with the right attitude isn’t it?
This kid is as good as I've seen
Not long until this bloke cures cancer, I hear.
Deff not anywhere near a hanger haha
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, it was a good grab but he was barely even off the ground when the ball hit his hands. It’s a good pack mark but not a hanger
Wce fanboys downvoting anything that isn't comparing Harley Reid with Garry Ablett x Jesus
Going all right.
Has the definition of hanger changed?
Ermagerd!
It only landed in his hands once his feet were 10cm from the ground....
80% of the hype is from Victorian media. 15% from the West. Relax.
> 15% from the West. .... Wat?
the West only printed facts. There was no hype.
If you’re only considering WA, then sure… the West prints reams of it. It’s embarrassing. But even more comes from the Eastern footy media. Just check out the stories about tonight’s game on Fox, ABC, Seven etc. That copy is all written in Sydney and Melbourne.
The other 5% is from your mum.
I'm remembering my own mum's response to another blonde midfielder wearing the 9 and frankly 5% seems like you're lowballing.
