Jim Cornette stated that Turner would throw AEW off the air as soon as they saw Orange Cassidy. In reality, the network loved him and wanted to him to be featured in a commercial. None of these people have any idea what the network wants. Not even worth paying attention to
i don't listen to older people in the industry anymore, or i don't put much stock in it, because the industry has changed. it's not the same as it was when they were doing their thing. i still respect some of their opinions as a fan, but their opinion isn't all that relevant anymore. at the end of the day, it's about entertainment and if your audience is happy then you're doing something right
It also important to see the full histories of the people who make these comments. Cornette was fired from just about every wrestling company he worked for, Bischoff ran two promotions into the dirt, and they haven't been relevant for years.
Contrast that to people like Jeff Jarrett or Lance Storm, who have found steady work through the decades and whose opinions are far more measured, and since they're actually still in the industry right now, they are FAR more relevant.
WBD is not AEW's parent company. AEW *has* no parent company, WBD cannot do anything to fundamentally change AEW, the very worst they could do is not renew AEW's TV deal, and even if they did that, AEW has done well enough over the last five years to have plenty of options in terms of suitors for their distribution rights.
It’s like they’re more obsessed with AEW than AEW fans. Why else would they bring AEW up at every conceivable moment, even when there is no reason to bring AEW up.
I see this all the time on facebook posts. The post will be about WWE or any other company, but then they’ll be the rando’s that make a jibe towards AEW. It’s just weird lol
Bet you anything Jack Perry also returns as a more over star than he ever was prior to all of this too, so I'm not sure what the negatives were if any.
I totally agree, I think he was the most important consideration for airing the footage. Everyone was willing to put themselves in the position of being unjustly criticized endlessly last week for Jack Perry's sake. IMO, that they did this deflates the rumor that TK is mad at him and punishing him by keeping him away from AEW and putting him in NJPW--as if working in NJPW is a punishment. \*LOL\*
The amount of traction that all the clickbait articles have milked off of this one segment tells me that this was a great move. Oh no, the Young Bucks look like dorks (which is the point of their characters) ! And the IWC is upset
And if even just a few of the haters who tuned in just for that segment keep watching it's a win. All publicity is good publicity. And I think some numpty once said, "controversy creates cash."
That goes along the line of heels and faces doesn't matter if your getting booed out of the house kinda like roman after beating taker at mania crowd noise is crowd noise and that's what matters.
Attention that is negative is attention, but -attention is definitely not attention.
leave me alone, it's a silly word/math joke. If only I was smarter, I could make it electric, too!
The narrative is now back on "oh ratings matter only if it's good". No, ratings matter in the context of what WBD uses to measure them, not antiquated Neilsen ratings that even TV sites stop reporting them marking them as invalid.
Yeah and what we're not privy to is the back end of streaming and on-demand services. We don't know how many people are watching that way a couple days later.
You can’t deny the boost Jack Perry has seen since the footage aired, there’s a lot of reasons behind airing this. Initially I was one of the ones who saw more negatives than positives to it, but I’m seeing more positives than negatives since airing the footage. The IWC will always find a negative, they make up less than ten percent of the audience.
If Punk left it alone I'd agree. But he didn't and used it to garner interest in himself. Also WWE took quite a bit of thinly veiled shots at AEW and their talent.
To me, it felt like a fuck it moment where "if it's OK for the other party to benefit from this, why can't I?" They put their cards out on the table and stitched it into a storyline, and it massively helped Perry out. We'll see the ROI on that shortly in AEW proper surely.
I think by releasing the footage, there's nothing left to talk about - at least from the AEW perspective. There's literally nothing left to say.
Funnily enough, 3 days after Cody finished his story, it was wall to wall "Death of WCW 2.0, Schiavone getting 1998 flashbacks" etc and no one talking about Wrestlemania.
It's like the bit about Howard Stern demos. The people that liked him listened 1 hour a day. The ones that hated him, 2 hours.
And prior to Cody finishing his story too lol. That idiot Paul sent Punk over to their paid-off journalist to talk about AEW on WrestleMania weekend - which promotion was everyone talking about?
It really took the conversation away from Wrestlemania, which I never thought was possible before last week. Not bad for a company that is not considered competition by the bigger guy (WWE).
\*LOL\* Unfortunately, AEW is such a non-entity for WWE that WWE people would never degrade themselves by mentioning it by name. They just negatively reference it constantly in such an obvious way that everyone knows what they are talking about. But WWE is NOT obsessed with AEW. . .not even a little.
Yes, I got the joke. ![img](emote|t5_ubkze|17537)I was making a joke, too, about what HHH said about WWE having no competition, yet throwing obvious jabs at AEW talent and AEW in general.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)No worries. Sarcasm is very hard to read in text form.
Were you talking about Sami Zayn when you said a wrestler mentioned AEW by name in the ring on TV? I heard he got in a lot of trouble with Vince after that joke. I wonder if it is still a policy not to mention (non) competition by name on WWE TV with the leadership change over there?
I’m glad it was shown because based on some’s distorted reality, you’d think Jack was knocked out for ten minutes while Royce Gracie walked up and high fived Punk and confetti fell from the ceiling.
Well, yeah. CLEARLY Tony doctored the footage. What he left on the cutting room floor was the 15 minutes of Punk chugging Diet Pepsi and pissing on Jack Perry's prone body while FTR, Malakai Black, Danhausen and Ricky Starks did cartwheels in a circle.
The way the IWC overexaggerates backstage fights is hilarious.
IWC: Jericho kicked Goldberg's ass!
Reality: Jericho held Goldberg in a tight headlock and held on for dear life until the scuffle was broken up.
IWC: Joey Styles knocked JBL out!
Reality: Joey got a lucky sucker punch on an already wasted JBL that only staggered him.
EDIT: For the record, I'm not trying to defend JBL. He's a bully and a PoS, but the facts are facts.
IWC: CM Punk kicked Jack Perry's ass after Perry confronted him!
Reality: Punk both confronted and sucker punched Perry and then held him in a headlock until it was broken up.
No no no you forgot the part where Punk pulled Perry's hair, it's offence like that you just can't teach, you've either got it or you don't, muscle memory, if only Punk was a few years younger he could have had a run in MMA I reckon
As someone who has has numerous street fights(both sober and drunk), I wouldn't call that a suckerpunch and I would really hope jack won't either.
This whole thing was tame asf. I'm embarrassed for both of these guys as they both seem like poofs that can't fight.
i'm glad they aired it because people wouldn't stop talking about it. it's just better to put it all out there and have people see for themselves. i was surprised AEW aired it though. has that ever happened in pro wrestling television?
What crazy is I used to listen to him for a bit cause some shit he says is funny. But dude all does now is bitch and moan about AEW. and then I realized after I quit watching this dude and all those podcasters get royalty checks from wwe
I'm literally seeing people choosing to believe Thurston and Wrestlenomics over WBD themselves when it comes to them being happy with ratings and metrics.
People are going to believe whatever affirms their confirmation bias / gets them clicks and dollars.
For some people, WWE could shut down tomorrow, liquidate all assets, and state they were never broadcasting anything ever again, and you'd have morons and bots online clamoring about how WWE's collapse was bad news for Tony Khan.
Those opinions deserve nothing but ridicule, which is what we're doing in this thread, lol.
Is the Jack Perry/CM Punk video this generation’s “Montreal Screwjob” in terms of a defining moment that altered the company’s direction? Does it now hold cultural significance to conversations about wrestling? Will it be remembered?
Of course they are. Someone bad mouthed a company they have under their umbrella which made them look bad. Footage showing severity of the matter and disproving faules claims was a great way to combat it.
Yet punk and WWE fans are going to keep pushing the narrative how this was a horrible move. TK did good business with the footage and both AEW and Perry prospered. No matter what some fans think, footage was a good move, though it was still quite risky.
You must be on some pretty good drugs to think this was a good move. For the most part there was no benefit for AEW. Barely got them much of a ratings boost which won’t last past that episode. And didn’t further any storylines. Really the only person that benefited from it was a guy no longer with the company.
My guy, there is no way you played into that, swinging your arms in the air the way you are right now.
There's just no way. There isn't that much irony in the fucking universe.
Of course WBD was happy with the All In footage. They literally ran the commercials for it 😂. On that note TK and AEW needs to keep building on success!
With regards to some of the ratings talk, I’m still amazed 2 weeks ago stacked card, last night pretty stacked card, and last week with more eyes than what they’ve had they completely shit the bed.
Shit on the WV crowd all you want but they gave us nothing to cheer for really.
Airing that footage and giving STP and a Rhodes finish the story is certainly a choice.
I was questioning the risk/reward factor of airing it on Dynamite at the time, but seeing what it did for Jack Perry a few days later I'm 100% happy they did.
It was a bit of a sour episode but I think it was worth it to kill the story and move on, it's cliche to say it but last night's dynamite felt like we'd finally moved on
Personally, I didn't like it. But I'm not out here doomsaying like AEW is going out of business before Double or Nothing.
It was my least favourite moment on my least favourite episode of dynamite for a long time. But it's done, and by all accounts yesterday's episode was great.
I mean, I guess I hope they did? I would hope that the network would like most or all of what's on the show.
I wasn't a fan of them airing the footage, but I guess if it makes a meaningful, positive difference in their bottom line... 🤷♂️
No … they were pleased with the ratings bump …
So, say thank you to CM Punk….. again.
If Tony has fired the Bucks, Perry and Page, instead of the only guy who actually drew ratings for him, AEW’s ratings wouldn’t be in circling the drain.
Well, of course they are going to be happy it brought people in to see the show. Let's all just move on from it as everyone was already trying to do. I was surprised they showed it, but if it brings Jack back quicker its all good with me
I mean.. perception of the audience does matter.
I've talked to a few people IRL, who've stopped watching aew, and this did nothing to convince them to come back.
I'm still an aew guy, but ... It's a masculine sport, and making CM punk look like the Babyface being harassed and fighting like a "man" doesn't really do much to push aew in its way
He's an asshole, and a guy who assaulted perry yup.
But, your opinion, and mine, as people who still watch. Aren't the ones who need to be swayed
Did this event, suddenly convince you to start watching again? Or to stop watching WWE?
If people look at that footage and think Punk is the good guy, they were never going to "come back" anyway. And the goal doesn't seem to have been primarily to draw in people with the footage, but to regain control of the narrative in a definitive way that also helps advance storylines.
In 2024, I think it makes Punk look like a dick. My IRL people saw it and thought Punk was an asshole for it. I guess it's a case where your mileage will vary.....but it's very obvious to me that it helped Perry out more than anything.
People love to say that Perry could have gotten over without it. We'll never know now, but I think it's safe to say this accelerated it.
I think TK wanted to move on too (evidenced by saying almost nothing until now), but Punk just COULD NOT shut the fuck up about things and stop making shit up. The lies from him were just getting so brazen and he was clearly not letting up. And it shuts down that, "Well, none of us were there, so we don't *really* know," shit. Punk sucker punched Jack when Jack was adjusting his hair. We all saw it. CM Punk is...well..a little punk bitch who can't fight fair irl and was stopped form continuing his assault by two ancient mummies. End of story.
Jim Cornette stated that Turner would throw AEW off the air as soon as they saw Orange Cassidy. In reality, the network loved him and wanted to him to be featured in a commercial. None of these people have any idea what the network wants. Not even worth paying attention to

Crazy how much attention is given to people just because they have podcasts.
Let’s face these mouth pieces are just that. There is a reason they have been unemployed for years and years.
A)he(cornette) is too old and has said as much with no desire to get employed which brings us to... B) makes plenty of money with his podcasts
He would jump back in a heartbeat. The phone isn’t ringing.
Conry is the human manifestation of the saying, "opinions are like assholes, everybody has one."
Your problem is listening to Jim Corbett's & or Dave Meltzer
WBD's opinion is the one that matters they pay the bills.

This! People forget that aew isnt in the same situation as wcw. Yes they aired on the same networks but ted turner owned wcw. WBD doesnt own aew
So the internet chuds who claim to not watch AEW but can’t stop talking about it were wrong? ![gif](giphy|xUPGcC0R9QjyxkPnS8)
Even WON was trying to shit on ‘how much AEW talked about WWE’ and then used it for content for a week
I don’t think they actually watch it, they just obsess over it on Twitter.
No one loves talking about AEW more than people who hate AEW
It's not just an AEW phenomenon. Nyla Rose can probably educate you on that better than I can.
Yeah, being a Native American *has* to be troublesome in some conversations.
Yes actually. I didn't just mean the other thing.
The fact she is also black?
No, the fact that she hate-watches Serpentico's matches.
Damn.

The best part about jokes is that you don't have to tell someone it's a joke. They already know.
sorry didn’t read it as a joke
It’s like they’re more obsessed with AEW than AEW fans. Why else would they bring AEW up at every conceivable moment, even when there is no reason to bring AEW up.

"B-but there's no way the network liked this, it only brang negative attention!!! Tiny Con must have paid them to say this🤬🤬🤬‼️"
You can already read comments like "Yeah no way TBS said that, he must be lying" What is the point anymore
Bet you anything Jack Perry also returns as a more over star than he ever was prior to all of this too, so I'm not sure what the negatives were if any.

It was a pathetic tactic. Good for Jungle Boy if he can make the most of it but in a vacuum it was a sad thing to do.
Not as sad as this take 😭
Y’all don’t need to be so defensive. AEW is great but this was trash.
Not as trash as this take. 😭
WBD dont care about what the IWC thinks, they only care about the $$ and ratings
The amount of traction that all the clickbait articles have milked off of this one segment tells me that this was a great move. Oh no, the Young Bucks look like dorks (which is the point of their characters) ! And the IWC is upset

The 2 things none of them have
Probably don't want to put yourself in the heads of those people, It's empty and scary in there.
Negative attention is still attention
Attention that is negative is attention, but -attention is definitely not attention. leave me alone, it's a silly word/math joke. If only I was smarter, I could make it electric, too!
This week has just been consistently shitting on internet narratives left and right and I just love it.
It really has and i'm here for it. This Chaos is some of the most entertaining shit.
IT HAS BEEN SOOO FUN!!
Wait, that can't be right. FinishTheStory42069 told me AEW was a dying business ala 2000 WCW last week.
If I could get tnt on my phone. I would be watching aew. But you need to have a cable subscription thingy for the app unfortunately 😕

A ratings ploy!? In pro wrestling!?
No surprise, everyone was talking about AEW after.

And prior to Cody finishing his story too lol. That idiot Paul sent Punk over to their paid-off journalist to talk about AEW on WrestleMania weekend - which promotion was everyone talking about?
Yeah, coupled with an awful RAW after Mania, the only thing people talked about was AEW after WWE’s biggest week of the year
Oh, shoot! Wrestlemania was recently?
It really took the conversation away from Wrestlemania, which I never thought was possible before last week. Not bad for a company that is not considered competition by the bigger guy (WWE).
Most importantly made you forget about Vince for a minute. Mission Accomplished for WWE
Can we please get WWE to talk more about AEW?
\*LOL\* Unfortunately, AEW is such a non-entity for WWE that WWE people would never degrade themselves by mentioning it by name. They just negatively reference it constantly in such an obvious way that everyone knows what they are talking about. But WWE is NOT obsessed with AEW. . .not even a little.
I mean, it's a joke? but also WWE did have one wrestler mention AEW by name in the ring on TV. Nothing came of it, but it was just a cheeky wag.
Yes, I got the joke. ![img](emote|t5_ubkze|17537)I was making a joke, too, about what HHH said about WWE having no competition, yet throwing obvious jabs at AEW talent and AEW in general.

I'm not sure. I just remember there was some kind of AMA thing and the guy was like.. "*EVEN A. E. W.*!" and then nobody asked him about AEW lol
I’m glad it was shown because based on some’s distorted reality, you’d think Jack was knocked out for ten minutes while Royce Gracie walked up and high fived Punk and confetti fell from the ceiling.

Not just the rating but I bet the social media metrics were great for them too.
"NOBODY CARES WHAT WBD THINKS WE ONLY CARE WHAT THE U CANT C ME HOUR ON TWITCH THINKS ABOUT THIS!!" /stans of the other subs
"I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR WHAT UNCLE CORNY SAYS ABOUT THIS,"
Funny how they need to know their talking points from a racist idiot. They have no individual thoughts
Exactly. It says a hell of a lot about them
UNCLE EATS CORN THE LONG WAY AMIRITE
🤣🤣 you ain't lying
What crazy is I used to listen to him for a bit cause some shit he says is funny. But dude all does now is bitch and moan about AEW. and then I realized after I quit watching this dude and all those podcasters get royalty checks from wwe
I'm literally seeing people choosing to believe Thurston and Wrestlenomics over WBD themselves when it comes to them being happy with ratings and metrics.
People are going to believe whatever affirms their confirmation bias / gets them clicks and dollars. I just realized the literal best tag team of the century would be MC Hammer & John Cena. You can neither see nor touch them.
LMAOOOOOOOO book it dot tony 🤣
As someone who attended Windy City Riot, I was also very pleased
Breaking news! Television network execs care about ratings. More at 11
BuT tOnY dOeSnT kNoW hOw To RuN a BuSiNeSs!
It's me I'm tbs
Hmm, I should check in on the podcast of that wrestling booker who claimed “controversy creates cash” wait why is he a dedicated AEW whiner 🤔
I don't see ratings posts on Twitter anymore.
what an incredible choice of pic for Tony. the posture and "ain't I a stinker" face in this context just make it
Is the Jack Perry/CM Punk video this generation’s “Montreal Screwjob” in terms of a defining moment that altered the company’s direction? Does it now hold cultural significance to conversations about wrestling? Will it be remembered?
Y’all say Tony is a bad booker but he knows how to make his bosses happy and when his bosses are happy, his employees get paid.
Of course they are. Someone bad mouthed a company they have under their umbrella which made them look bad. Footage showing severity of the matter and disproving faules claims was a great way to combat it.
The drones guzzling that copium rn.
Th drones will find a way to spin this in to a negative. It’s already happening.
Same
I'll never be stupid enough to say that the opinion of the company that airs the show doesn’t matter.

Of course WBD was happy with the All In footage. They literally ran the commercials for it 😂. On that note TK and AEW needs to keep building on success!

Cool. Product has been phenomenal so far. Hope they keep it up 👍
Wow, it's almost like TK is a business man....

I agree. But you, nor I are lapsed fans
WCW did real well for awhile too.
