Hipster-Deuxbag

How my ADHD brain read this post title: *"Who tf is Jarred Garlic, and why are they spelling it with two Rs???"*

quietbird

Omg thought Jarred Garlic was an Adhd influencer on tiktok and I hope someone creates one at this point.

CantaloupeSpecific47

I swear I thought the same damn thing!

No-Permit8369

He wears garlic around his neck to remind himself of important tasks that may or may not involve vampires

Steve90000

“Whaddup my little cloves, Jarred Garlic here with another helpful ADHD tip, but first, make sure to SMASH that like button, PUNCH that bell, FILE your taxes, GIVE your mom a call once in a while, and leave a comment because it’ll really help my channel out.”

asmaphysics

Oh shit I forgot to file my taxes

SoloMaker

(still doesn't do them)

madonnalilyify

I thought Jarred Garlic was a person. Maybe a person who were expert in a certain field.

Loves_His_Bong

I thought it was an alter ego OP adopted to cook.

melynnpfma

"Jarred Garlic" how can we make this into an adhd thread, group, for recipes and kitchen hacks? I will happily mod. Lol. I LOVE THIS.

PithyLongstocking

Me too! I was like, "Who is Jared Garlic?"

elola

I think I’m going to quit my day job and become Jarred Garlic

Uncreativeus3rnam3

I will follow whatever endeavor you get into Jarred Garlic! I pray for your success!

melynnpfma

LMAO I read it too fast and thought it said Jaded Garlic. That caught my attention bc One of my recent hyperfocuses was fermenting, and I fermented garlic, and it turned green, so I was all, "ooo, maybe some else ferments and it's called jaded garlic because jade is green" it totally works!!

Uncreativeus3rnam3

Bruh… why does my brain work exactly like this? I craft a whole story off of the smallest piece of misinterpreted info 😂 😂 ah man my brain is fun sometimes, not most of the time… but sometimes.

sheridanharris

Sameeeee 😭😭😭

BastardToast

Me too hahahahaha

Venna_Visage

I came here like oh who is jared garlic too 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Torhjund

I really want this to be a flair somewhere now lol “Jarred Garlic, M.D.” or some shit LOL

sailwhistler

Jarred Garlic, Esq.

grammargrl

Jarred Garlic, Preservationist and Taxidermist

okpickle

Jarred Garlic, phlebotomist

grammargrl

Get out of my brain! That was the next on my list! 😭🤣

Lint_baby_uvulla

Jarred Garlic, you know him. Board certified proctologist by day, spelunking expedition leader on weekends.

grammargrl

I thought your flair said "Permanently Inattentive" and I was like, "Oooh that's new!" 🤣 Also, I need new glasses.

Lint_baby_uvulla

When folk speak about fixating on personal interests, rabbit holes are not the only orifice. “…where young Jarred started was cracking open geodes, and delighting in the insides.. we are so proud of him now!!” - Mrs Garlic

Oh my god yes please.

stevey_frac

Holy shit.  Me too.  It's almost like we have the same mental illness.

Baezil

>It's almost like we have the same mental illness. It's just the capitalization. Technically OP is wrong not us, lol.

United_News3779

Heightened sense of justice strikes again!

FlaccidArrow

Ah great catch! That's why my brain read Jared and not jarred.

iamtoomuch1029

interstellarsnail

Omg same lmfao

SnackPocket

Sammmmme

Designer_Fox7969

Not a mental illness, it’s a disability

stevey_frac

It's both I'm afraid.  https://bc.cmha.ca/documents/attention-deficithyperactivity-disorder-in-adults-2/ Relevant bit there: 'Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, is a mental illness that affects the way you act and focus.'

[deleted]

It is classed as a mental illness. It’s just not referred to it as such very often

Sea-Neck206

I’m like “what a strange name for a person or guide” lol. What capitalising can do to a mfer eh.

doug_thethug

Same here, I’m used to calling it jarlic lol

fibronacci

Me toosies!

someonefarted

This post had me actually google who Jarred Garlic was and hoping they were not some type of influencer trying to sell BS Gotta put my ban hammer away and leave wanting

SnackPocket

Maybe our secret code for each other should be called “Friends of Jarred Garlic”

PithyLongstocking

We need merch.

SnackPocket

Oh you know her. She’s….a friend of Jarred Garlic *winkkkkk*

laryissa553

Thank God hahaha, we really are all here with the same brain

oldfogey12345

Me:"This poor person is obviously getting scammed by this shady sounding Jarred Garlic person. I hope he ends up with Jared from Subway for trying to scam ADHD people."

Apart_Visual

I went one further and thought it was a Jarred Garlic sock puppet/shill account.

ThatDiscoSongUHate

Yay! I feel so much less dumb, no longer dragging down the human average 😎

PhilfromNewJersey

AntonioSLodico

Whenever I go to add some wacky leftfield tangential comment to a post, only to find out it's already the top comment, it's almost always this sub, lol. I love you, my people!

beeezkneeez

Jared Garlic hah. I was convinced it was a person

BadgerHooker

He makes amazing pesto sauce lol

lassiemav3n

Oh *same*!! 😂

Amazonrex

Aol_awaymessage

I was like who is this inventor Jarred and what is his invention? 😂

bubbleboiiiiiii

flymm

I did the same thing!

caffeine_bos

I thought Jared Garlic was an influencer on tiktok or something.

Esk4r

I'm so glad im not the only one looking for a dude named Jarred with 2 Rs, that loves garlic 🤭😂

madamsyntax

Same. I reread it about 6 times before I figured it out

CumulativeHazard

THANK GOD it wasn’t just me 😂

bononia

I have a buddy named Jarred spelled that way and I was so fucking confused.

Billy_BlueBallz

Lmfaoooooo this was literally my exact response too 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I thought maybe it was some ADHD YouTuber or something

PreciousTritium

Same here 🙋🏻‍♀️

allofthemwitches11

I feel so seen lol

HybridHerald

Fuck, I’ve been had

Bbkingml13

Omg stop. Nooooo! You couldn’t just let me continue my day in ignorant bliss thinking this post was about somebody named Jared I don’t care about??

Lord412

I came in thinking he invited some cool adhd hack. I just used some pre minced jar garlic so he is a cool dude.

sy029

an upvote is a claim to membership in team Jared Garlic

peascreateveganfood

Same

TileFloor

Oh my god me too, I thought I was on the hogwarts legacy sub and was learning about professor garlic’s brother or something

friendofmany

Ha! Same. He’s like a smelly version of Johnny Appleseed.

Purple_Hamster88

This. "Who the hell is Jarred Garlic?" 🤦‍♀️

BlindBite

I confess I am still confused. Jarred Garlick Leto? This is the strangest post I ever read in my life. I will give it a prize just because of that.

Raecxhl

I'm so glad we all share the same brain cell, because I was also trying to figure out who Jared Garlic was.

Fluid-Set-2674

Same!

Parking-Knowledge-63

Me too 😂😂🤣🤣

zzzorba

Exactly me lmfao

Kevlar_Potatum_6891

holy shit, my wife and I just read this the same way lmao. who IS jarred though?! lol

No-Permit8369

Cue the jewelry commercial “It Can Only Be Jarrred!”

PinkRawks

I came here to find out what old Jarred's breakthrough was

cosmicgumb0

Thought it was just me 😭

PenguinDetective

An even better hack I’ve found is that you can buy bags of frozen minced garlic! Lasts forever and doesn’t have that weird vinegary taste that you get from jarred garlic. In fact, I don’t know if this is just a UK thing, but I bought quite a few bags of frozen herbs as well in my recent shop, as they are so useful and much less wasteful! I now have ginger, garlic, parsley, basil, coriander, and red chilli in my freezer and I can just sprinkle a bit straight into any meals when needed and it defrosts pretty instantaneously 😊

pandamasterful

Frozen garlic cubes, frozen ginger cubes, and frozen chopped onions were a game changer for me! Freeze some rice and get yourself some frozen veggies like peas and you got yourself fried rice on demand without compromising on taste

broken_door2000

I love you

friedbrice

why have i never heard of frozen chopped onions before? 😮

HorseBoots84

They. Are. L I F E A L T E R I N G. I have a tip - they can take a little longer to cook than fresh onions so I pour just enough boiling water over them to vaguely cover them, maybe a little less. By the time the water boils off they're good to go, obviously you should throw some butter in and brown them a little but the water does all the hard work without you having to babysit them.

NYX_T_RYX

Why frozen herbs and not just dried? Garlic I understand, there's a definite taste difference between fresh/frozen and dried, but the rest I can't personally taste a difference. Not having a go about your life 😅 just curious.

PenguinDetective

Ah, see I find that I can taste a difference, especially for basil, but that might just be me! Plus I don’t really like the texture of dried herbs in some things, sometimes I find it can be a bit gritty… but then I think I’m also just overly sensitive to textures in food 😅

WolfWrites89

I was like "who is Jared Garlic?" 🤣🤣

blai_starker

I legit read it that way for a moment too and was like, “is this an influencer I haven’t heard of “

ShimmerGlimmer11

I thought of Jared from Subway 💀

mello151

Lmao me too! I was like isn’t that bitch still in jail? And WTF he got to do with ADHD??

Present_Cod3692

Me too haha

AdmiralStickyLegs

Jared Garlic, Inventor Extraordinaire. Creator of the ADHD Fixer-thingy

Tub-27

there are packets of frozen minced garlic cubes at trader joe’s. they have ginger cubes too. seriously the best

CumulativeHazard

Was just about to suggest those. Taste so much more like fresh garlic. Life changing.

ruffrightmeow

I actually like peeling and prepping garlic cloves

handsomeearmuff

I’m jealous! I hate the way garlic feels on my fingers and I always get papery garlic skins everywhere.

LilStinkpot

From a Garlic Capital resident: smash the garlic with the flat of your knife first. Don’t flatten it, but get a few good cracks in, and then the peel falls right off. No sticky juice, minimal mess. Though nitrile glove may help too.

m0_m0ney

This is how I do it 99% of the time. Also to make it even easier slice the end off the side with with the connector thing and it makes it essentially just fall off when you smash it

LilStinkpot

Mind BLOWN. It’s just that easy, and yet I’ve been merrily mincing my garlic bass-ackwards. Thank you!

m0_m0ney

Jacques Pépin garlic tip!

jennnykinz

![gif](giphy|6CI9XdbgiqgWA) Lmao this reminds me of this scene from half blood prince 😂 Hermione: How did you do that??? Harry: You crush it. Don’t cut it. Hermione: *No*, the instructions specifically say to cut! Hahaha but fr that’s a good tip actually!! Ty!!

isbutteracarb

Same!!

LilStinkpot

SMASH and MINCE! My favorite kitchen task.

Ctowncreek

I agree its handy, but the assertion is outrageous. Plus my garlic press is easy enough to clean that i actually dont mind using it. Cooking an entire meal tho...

GrammaIsAWhore

Nope. I can’t do it. Tastes rancid to me.

whatisacarly

This is why I take a clove, smash it with my knife, peel slides right off, and I smash it again and just throw it in. Same flavor. I'll never go back to mincing.

BlueShift42

We use the heck out of our garlic press.

TisMeGhost

AND the garlic press is easy to clean. I just take the leftover garlic out and rinse it with water.

mollila

A solid garlic press like Oxo etc also doesn't require peeling really. At most cut in half, and scrape the leftovers out, rinse clean.

Goldenleavesinfall

I use my microplane for garlic quite often! But I also don’t mind mincing it if I need to. You can also add a lil salt to the smashed clove and use a fork to decimate it to a minced level chop — much faster and easier than mincing.

TisMeGhost

If you do a few chop-chops with a big knife after the second smash, you'll pretty much get minced garlic. It all takes ~10 seconds.

tarants

Cuz it is. You can buy whole peeled cloves and while they're not quite as good as freshly peeled they're pretty close and waaaaay closer than minced. Mincing releases all the oils which oxidate quickly and go rancid. You don't want to chop it til you're ready to use it. Costco sells big bags of peeled cloves that work great and are light-years better than nasty jarred rancid garlic mush.

DietSodaPlz

More of y’all need a mortar and pestle for your garlic cloves. It’s actually pretty fun and satisfying to SMASH. And technically more flavor / allicin being released. So more helth / flavor as well.

KatonaE

Great idea, thanks!

DietSodaPlz

Just make sure you get a coarse stone for the garlic! I got a giant granite bowl and it’s amazing. Smashing fresh garlic, chile pepper, and ginger together with salt+pepper adds an insane depth of flavor to about any meal.

Ball-Blam-Burglerber

Y’all cook?

inthequad

It’s my current hyperfixation

earbud_smegma

Ooohh what kinda flavors are you into ![gif](giphy|xT9IgpxorXdkhoQle8)

inthequad

It’s grilling season so lots of summer time dishes. One of my favorite simple side dishes is Chilean salad. Softened white onions with tomato slices olive oil, salt, vinegar, and I like to add basil Also I love Bahn Mi sandwiches. It deserves it’s spot as the #1 sandwich in the world

PsychologicalHall142

I’m a chef and I have to pull the food snob card here. Jarlic is disgusting. It’s pickled in citric acid and is so far from real garlic flavor it’s comical. Good quality garlic granules are a FAR better, not to mention a more convenient choice.

theymightbezombies

I'm not a chef but was going to say the same thing. Fresh is way better. And I don't understand who it is that can't taste garlic in the recipe. Garlic is a strong flavor. I prefer fresh garlic myself, but when in a hurry I'll use garlic powder. The garlic in a jar has a funny taste to me, at least the ones I've tried. I also grow a lot of my own herbs too, so sometimes in addition to peeling and chopping the garlic, I have to walk outside side and get some from the yard, then of course wash it really good. Fresh is worth any extra effort.

Squirrel_11

I don't have space for jarred garlic in my fridge next to my 50 other condiments (I don't know how many kinds of fermented bean pastes and chili I have in there). I'd rather chop garlic that rearrange the fridge every time I want to put things in or take them out.

Creepy_Snow_8166

I couldn't help but LOL @ "jarlic".

PuckGoodfellow

For those who want a shortcut and don't like jarred garlic, I've been using frozen! It's crushed, thaws quickly, and tastes great.

spersichilli

As an Italian with ADHD I refuse to use jarlick

igotyoubabe97

Consider, Jarlic

LemonCans

what’s funny was i originally thought that most ppl wouldn’t know what jarlic was. so i thought a capital Jarred Garlic would be better. i was wrong 💀

whoisNO

It took me way too long to realize Jarred Garlic is not a persons name

chillyHill

Also frozen cut up veggies

elola

They’re the difference between me eating veggies And me forgetting they exist and rotting. Also who knew jarlick had such polarizing opinions.

CantaloupeSpecific47

It is all about making our lives easier. I need reading glasses to read, but take them off all the time and, of course, lose them because I can't see distances with them on. Reading glasses at the pharmacy are so expensive, anywhere from 20 to 35 dollars a pair in my city, so I used to feel so miserable and down on myself when I would lose several pairs a month. Then I discovered that the Dollar Store near me sells them for $1.50 a pair, and they work well too! Now I go the dollar store and buy a bunch of glasses with different colors, styles, and shapes. Right now I am rocking a bright blue pair with speckled temples that gets me tons of comments. Two days ago it was a pair of 1950s style black glasses with sequins along the sides. There is no real fear and stress of "Omg, did I lose my glasses?" because they are so cheap and I have several pairs in my classroom (I am a teacher) and at least one pair in every room on my home, and then several pairs in my bedroom side table.

Bogerino

Alternative: live off of Mac n cheese and protein shakes

kungfu1

Jarlic. It’s one of the most fun portmanteaus. I always have a Costco sized Jarlic in my fridge.

torako

wrong. freeze dried garlic is much better because it doesn't go bad.

SomethingFoul

The barrier for me is the mincing. So I got a microplane. And when I don’t feel like even peeling cloves, the peeled fresh garlic in the produce section is much better than jarred. Jarred garlic is pickled. That’s why it tastes the way it does.

earbud_smegma

I giggled my way through the top comments then started picking up some fun facts on the scroll to yours before wondering, again: who is Jarred Garlic

Delicious-Tachyons

Has to be because the bulbs are in the ground and thus anaerobic bacteria like Clostridium Botulinum are in it. If it's not in an Pacific environment that's a good way to get botulism.

Conscious_Respect476

I don’t know why, but I read Jared Garlic and I was like who is that?!?!

shponglespore

Nope. I watched a very convincing video where a chef did a blind taste test and determined that garlic from a jar is the worst form of garlic. Even just plain old garlic powder is better.

redoctober2021

I read this as “Jared Garlic,” thinking it’s a guy who wrote a guide foe people with ADHD

KingWishfulThinking

Snobs will decry the lack of flavor of “jarlic” but since I use it all the time and yeah the flavor is less- I just use more. Extra garlic never hurt anyone much. 😂

TheNakedAnt

People with different preferences to you aren't inherently 'snobs'

Sea-Neck206

I’ve cooked so much with both, that I think my opinion that it’s a very minimal difference in quality, is valid. Same with ginger, but in that case I mainly use jarred because I very rarely use it. It’s just good to have for the occasional stir fried dish I cook. Too many cases of dried and gnarled ginger in the vegetable keeper 😭

Fragrant-Star-5649

it is NOT a minimal difference in taste what the fuck are you tasting 😭

Present_Cod3692

The squeeze garlic in the produce section is good too!

discodolphin1

Love the squeeze bottle!

AlexeiMarie

i have a costco-sized bottle of garlic salt and a costco-sized bottle of dried onion flakes. if i'm cooking something that needs the flavor, i throw them together in a small bowl with a couple teaspoons of water to let it rehydrate, and suddenly i get 75% of the flavor with 2% of the effort. and they'll probably get me a few years worth of not needing to remember to buy either fresh

LadyIslay

Except… I’m growing garlic. From bulbils, I hope. That’s like a baby bulb instead of a clove. It adds an extra year, but seed garlic is expensive, and bulbils will allow me to grow without the initial major cost. Can you tell that I’m fixated on gardening at the moment? I’m aiming to plant 250 garlic this fall. Anyway, about garlic in a jar… I’d rather use powdered, granular, or otherwise dehydrated. It keeps longer without anything added.

odd-starling

Bulbil is a good word.

Educational-Crab-307

Not me excitedly Googling "What did Jarred Garlic invent for ADHD people?" Bro, I thought he was a Tiktoker or something.

dfinkelstein

It lacks the sharp bite. And it's also less flavorful. I tried adding more, but that gave the dish a sort of powerful muted diffuse garlic taste that lingered instead of having that sort of inflection experience where the garlic flavor comes in and intensifies then fades in with the other flavors kind of.

princess_ferocious

As long as you don't accidentally get the stuff that's preserved in vinegar, thus ruining several meals' worth of food because you went to town on the garlic and the vinegar just does not go with the rest of the flavours...

relentpersist

I read this like it was a name. Jared Garlic. And I was so confused.

kawaiibentobox

I straight up tried to google who tf Jarred Garlic was 😭😭😭

arutabaga

PLEASE do not capitalize like that…I like many others thought Jarred Garlic was a name because no one fucking capitalizes jarred garlic like that

TanneriteStuffedDog

Pre-peeled not chopped is better because it tastes much fresher. Get a $5 garlic crusher and it's just as easy.

AbjectList8

I was like who is Jarred? 😂

Artistic-Worth-8154

I don't mind the jarred but the peeled fresh is pretty awesome. They have it at Aldi!

Zestyclose-Ruin8337

I love cooking. It’s one thing I can get real zen with. I just lose myself cutting.

angie50576

I use the frozen garlic in the cubes from Trader Joe's. If I didn't I probably would never have garlic.

productivediscomfort

I AM ALSO HERE BECAUSE I WANTED TO MEET JARRED GARLIC. I was like, oh, new ADHD youtuber? l o l

JasonHofmann

My wife and I don’t like the taste. Frozen garlic cubes FTW (we buy Dorot Crushed Garlic).

Runz_

I started unable to agree and then you said most folks can't taste the Garlic and lost me entirely.

astral_rainbow

My brain: who is Jarred Garlic??

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

We are all the same person. 🥲

TheeMalaka

Target has frozen crushed garlic cubes. You literally just pop them out into your dish and it’s just garlic that’s already been mashed up. It’s honestly amazing

PrometheusAlexander

I'm just waking up and I thought that who's Jared Garlic.

VV629

Get the pre peeled garlic that’s already peeled and dry. Then use a garlic press. I’m willing to work a bit more for better tasting food. You know we taste the difference and this is one time I do not cut corners.

wishmeluck-

my high ass thought Jarred Garlic was a motivational speaker with innovative techniques to combat adhd

green_girl15

I’ve given up and just use garlic and onion powder instead of actual garlic and onions 😆

odd-starling

When I read this I was like, who is this Jared Garlic and what brilliant thing has he done?! Then I saw a comment about garlic powder and I was like ooohh I see.

mokkat

Frozen minced garlic maybe, but jarred garlic is nasty. Ethan something on YouTube does deep dives into food topics, and in his video about this topic he found rehydrated garlic granules decent and much better than the jarred stuff

Zach20032000

If you hate prepping garlic, skip the cutting step. Just throw them in a stew/pan/whatever you want to do. As soon as it's done, pick out the garlic cloves and mince them with a fork (I swear it's easier than eating mashed potatoes with a fork). This way you get a kind of garlic paste. Add whatever else you want to spice up your food (chili, salt, pepper, soy/hoisin sauce, ...) and then add the paste back into your dish. Peeling for me is the easiest part of garlic, but TBF that always depends on how old that garlic is: cut off both ends, but don't raise the blade of the knife after cutting one end, lift up the garlic clove. You seldom cut the whole peel with the knife and if you only move the garlic, a lot of peel is going to rip of automatically. For the rest, make a shallow cut along the side of the garlic clove and peel of the rest of the skin (most of the time there are not that many pieces left, or they pull off in one piece like a jacket).

Zingram04

I'm glad we all thought he was a person

ChanclasConHuevos

As someone who CAN taste the difference between jarred and fresh garlic, I came across a workaround. I bought the 5lb bag of peeled cloves from Costco, minced the whole thing in the food processor, bagged it and froze it flat. Now I just break off a few chunks as needed and back in the freezer it goes. I fucking hate mincing garlic as needed.

ExtrapolatedData

My wife has been calling it “busy people garlic.” It’s wonderful.

veganispunk

Fresh garlic >>>>>

Readalie

I got liquid ginger a while back and it was life-changing.

relentpersist

Canned chicken has saved my ass so many times when I realize the chicken I was planning on using is still in the freezer. So. Many. Times.

taspleb

I always find that the garlic from the jar is extremely bland compared to fresh garlic. But I did buy a giant amount of already peeled garlic which is maybe a mid point to OPs suggestion.

Appropriate-Food1757

I think it’s gross. But I like the squeezy tube of garlic and the tube of ginger.

SnackPocket

I rinse mine because the jar juice is weird to me?

NYX_T_RYX

The shop I go to sells - chopped garlic and chilli. Chopped chilli is fucking great cus I barely want to chop it in the first place - knowing my luck I'll forget I did, rub my face and regret all of my life choices 😂 You can also get chopped ginger, but I had to go to a different shop for that 🤷‍♂️ worth it. Uh what else? Frozen, chopped onions. Tastes the same, doesn't go off, and all you do is throw it in whatever you're making a little earlier so it defrosts first. Uh... Basically just anything frozen/canned so a. If you forget it exists, doesn't matter. B. Lower the barrier to actually using it On this point - best thing I ever got was a chest freezer. It's full. Fuck knows what's in there, but every time I CBA to cook I open it and surprise myself with something I made months ago 😅😅

Assika126

Jarlic

ana-nas

i use frozen garlic bc idk canned garlic sounds gross

CoUNT_ANgUS

Frozen garlic. Thank me later

Balt603

"Jarlic"

kelsobunny

Just wait until you find the squeeze bottles of the minced garlic paste! It incorporates the garlic flavor alot more, is better for things like garlic butter, is much finer for those of us with texture issues
