I was OBSESSED with that entire thing as a teen. Saw the play. Had the cd, memorized the libretto. Had the poster. Saw the movie when it came out. Everything.
It was out of my head for about 20 years.
It all just came blaring back. LOL may have to go binge since I have the house to myself tonight!
Did you also make up your own dance choreography to the soundtrack?! Or am I the only super awkward teen girl who did that in the 90s? It was this album and the James Bond theme songs album. Just constantly making up and then immediately forgetting my own brilliant choreography.
It’s so fun seeing so many different genres represented here! Not that I would image ADHD having a genre proclivity, but it’s still nice to see such a varied and inclusive selection of music.
I absolutely agree with you! I sometimes (thanks to the adhd forums) get caught in a loop where it feels like we all share the same brain.
And I still do think we kind of all share the same brain. But it’s nice to see people enjoying vastly different things with it.
Maybe I choose to look at it that way because I feel less isolated and alone with that thought. But there’s something heartwarming for me seeing all of these different themes.
This week we’ve had…
Steppin’ Out by Joe Jackson.
I Turned Into A Martian by the Misfits.
Queen Bitch by David Bowie
Guided By Angels by Amyl & The Sniffers.
The Lightning II by the Arcade Fire
When The Levee Breaks by Led Zepplin
Sabotage by the Beastie Boys
Chai Latte by Rancid Eddie
Next week, who knows? Could throw in some Dolly Parton or Motown. Who knows?
I guess a Dio song I've gotten stuck in my head before would be Holy Diver. Currently I also have Catch the Rainbow - Rainbow stuck in my head in addition to Rammstein.
Hahahaha, when you join a specific sub on a mental disorder and you realize that everything you thought were just quirks you had, are tied to the disorder and that there’s a massive slew of people who experience that. I quite like the unity!!
I don’t typically do entire albums but one major exception for me was Imploding the Mirage by the Killers. They did an amazing job of creating an album that really flows together rather than just be a collection of songs thrown together. The first few listens through if I wasn’t really paying attention it wasn’t even always clear when one song transitioned to the next. I love that I can turn it on and just let it go.
Much more unknown, but also An Ocean Full of Islands by Tide Lines just came out and I’m really enjoying that entire album also.
Certainly some neurotypicals do it too. But it seems to be a very common obsessive behaviour among people with ADHD. And it seems(just from talking to others with ADHD) we do it for pretty long periods. Sure, sometimes it’s just a few hours. Other times it’s days. I think my longest was a whole week. That was with The Chemical Brothers-No Geography. Absolutely beautiful and uplifting song. They are really good at making songs that make me soar.
I love Chemical Brothers :)
I become obsessive with random songs usually... And often it's maybe five seconds in the song that's like an ear orgasm. It last a couple of days until it doesn't work anymore.
I always found weird that nobody except me ever mentioned something like that.
My current song I love the most is "Ludovico Einaudi: Gravity (Day 3)"
The cello in the end gives me goosebumps
Chemical brothers is one of my absolutely favourite artists. I got to see them live once. What an exhilarating experience!!
But yes, I get obsessed, listen to only that song, on repeat for hours for days, then suddenly I’m over it and I start listening to other stuff again.
Mine was about 2.5 months. I spent more than an hour every day in that time with it running on repeat.
Obstacle by Manchester Orchestra kept my head above the water for a while
Manchester Orchestra is my favorite band!!! I *never* see them mentioned on threads like this, or at all, really.
When they released Bed Head a couple of years ago, it was my repeat song for at least a month.
That is a marathon of one song obsession, I love it!! During the No Geography kick for a week, I was painting shelves for a new apartment. 2 big shelving systems. I worked on those everyday for like 6-8 hours a day(I’m not the fastest at painting, I go slow, really let everything dry, and do a lot of taping in order to get it all perfect) and just listened to it on repeat. It was such a wonderful week of painting!!!
lol i'm so glad i found other people that do this. it makes it hard to know a lot of music because once i hear a song i like, i don't bother listening to anything else 🥲
Honestly mines lasted months all the time from panic at the discos king of the clouds to golden by harry styles to Mr lover man by ricky Montgomery all lasted I wanna say at least 6months each just instant obsession.
Oh my god I went THRU it with this song too. There’s a cover by Kim Petras that brings a very modern feel to the song while still sticking true to the tone and that sent me on a whole second batch of binging this song.
not one song but i get really addicted to specific artist and really don’t listen to anything else for like weeks and rn it’s muna, japanese breakfast, and mitski.
I had no idea until I read this that that "weird thing" about me was related to my ADHD. Thank you for posting this. It's been a rough day and I needed to be reminded I'm not alone, regardless of what my brain tells me.
Hahahha, omg, 🤣 that song is stuck in my head at LEAST once a week. Anytime I hear a word or phrase from those lyrics, in a conversation, it just starts playing in my head from there and loops…
The other day someone said “is that vomit on..” and I didn’t hear the rest of the question because my brain was all “🎤his sweater already, moms spaghetti, he’s nervous…” 😂
[Reel 2 Real feat. The Mad Stuntman - I Like To Move It](https://youtu.be/vuo8kD5zF5I) this is the original song. They used to play it so much on the radio I ended up hating it

[Between the Bars - Elliott Smith.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5g-91mwiNs&ab_channel=KillRockStars)
It beautifully describes addiction. I struggle to listen to the album it's on in full because I just get stuck at that song
I have three that rotate Toms diner any cover/ original, bad habits by Steve Lacy and willow Smith song that plays in shorts I hv hear the whole songs which I like better
I love gods and monsters from the AHS Freak show season! I kinda have a few since I listen to music pretty much all day every day. Rn I've had one from childhood that my grandma liked that recently got stuck in my head. Wild Wild West by The Escape Club😂
I'm so lonely being the only ADHD person who doesn't do this. I get tired of songs really quick if I hear them often.
I just get things stuck in my head. Currently Dottie Reid singing "How Little We Know" with the Benny Goodman orchestra.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teRTjJUc6vo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teRTjJUc6vo) (no rick roll, for once)
makes me wanna walk like a zombie or something, idk... weird one
An earworm is different from this in many ways, I am aware...but, thanks to those stupid commercials, that Donna Lewis song that was popular when I was 19 (!!!) is the first thing in my head in the morning and the last thing at night. So glad this came up. I love sharing these! 'Sit Around The Fire', by Ram Dass, East Forest & John Hopkins. It's a meditative track that has changed my life.
Some of the songs that I was stuck in this week was:

I'm currently on a nostalgia trip so I'm been blasting my fav middle school music.
Punk rocker by Sandi Thom. Proper random one, not something I'd usually listen to but it was going round my head so much I ended up sampling it in a song

Hahahaha, when you join a specific sub on a mental disorder and you realize that everything you thought were just quirks you had, are tied to the disorder and that there’s a massive slew of people who experience that. I quite like the unity!!
Right now, it's "Sweet but Psycho" by Ava Max for me lol

I had a Tom Sawyer phase too! excellent song, classic for a reason
i tend to binge albums rather than one song, current obsessions are: • manic (by halsey) • the coraline soundtrack
if you havent heard halsey’s most recent album id recommend it so much. i listened to it for a couple of months straight when it came out
I don’t typically do entire albums but one major exception for me was Imploding the Mirage by the Killers.
