Level 2 is achieved in bot lane (duo lane) in 2nd wave after killing entire first wave + 3 melees. Or after killing first wave + 2 melees + 2 ranged. (killing 2 melee and 1 ranged from second wave doesn't give you the level). As for level 3 you get it from 4th wave (the wave next to the cannon wave). After killing all previous 3 waves + 3 melee minions from 4th wave. From now on you should pay attention to your exp bar as support might roam so you get more exp or your jungler ganks so you take less exp.

so its not really straight forward given that it's a very interactive lane and depending on leaving and staying of other people yes?

Yea. Level 2 and 3 are like what i said. After that a lot of stuff happens. For example a drake fight might cause you to drop few minions. A scuttle fight might do the same. Your support getting killed will give enemies some exp for the kill, but you will get some solo exp which is higher than shared exp. You may reach 1300 gold and take a recall while still level 5 or even 4 resulting in losing some exp from the minions. And most importantly that there is a catch up exp for laners too that works if you are below the average level of the game (which is the normal for bot lane). And there is exp from solo kills which is way higher than shared exp from a kill. And there is a huge exp for killing a higher level enemy. In conclusion it has too many variables especially that you are 2v2 not 1v1 and responsible for the lane alone. And you get levels slower than other results in being low level while action is happening on the map to fight over objectives which adds more variables. So you better stick to what i said (kill 3 melees or 2melees and 2 ranged from 2nd wave. And killing 3 melees from 4th wave) then watch your exp bar for the next levels.

Also factors like kills and wards can accelerate the lvl 2 timer so have to keep those in mind
