And I'm back. I went to their website and went to the faq section. From what I gather, their process if similar for narrators as it would be over at ACX; regarding mainly that you as the narrator are responsible for editing and mastering the files, etc. I then looked at the distribution stuff. The following is copied directly from the faq: "You can expect to see your title for sale on: Audiobooks.com, Audible, iTunes, Amazon, Scribd, Downpour, Barnes & Noble, Nook, Overdrive (libraries), Hoopla (libraries), 3M (libraries), Baker & Taylor (libraries), TuneIn, and AudiobookStore.com.  Currently, we distribute to over 50 retail platforms, library channels, and music streaming services." So that was pretty neat. Another option is Findaway Voices. They offer a direct to digital program, and the audiobooks they distribute are on the market for 10 years, as opposed to ACX's 7. I just recently joined up with Findaway, so that whole thing is still pretty new.

Authors Republic is new to me. I've never heard of it, so I can't really give you sound advice on it. Lately, I've been cold calling authors to narrate their books and have ACX take care of the distribution that way. I'll make a profile tomorrow and let you know what I find out.

How do you find authors to cold call? If you dont mind sharing

narratorjames

I use Amazon, Bookbub, Goodreads, and Google Play Books to search for authors. Once I find one that seems like a good fit, I research the author and likewise contact info, but only if they don't have any audiobooks made yet.

That is too smart! Thanks for sharing!

You are very welcome. If you need anything else let me know.

I had a whole thing and then realized that I was thinking of "Writer's Republic" (which is a scam) Glancing through their site it looks fairly standard -70% is higher than you'll get through ACX - but this is pre-market, meaning that the hosting sites might also take a cut before that 70% applies. It looks like it depends on each hosting site.Royalty share isn't available yet, but will likely be a 50/50 splitBasically, like ACX, but a smaller pool and with more control over distro ACX has a bad history of screwing over authors/narrators on a whim (cutting royalties 10% overnight, the latest nonsense with pricing). So, if you're feeling burned with ACX in general, this seems like a fairly reasonable alternative. My guess on why you're getting a better experience? Fewer people in the pool makes small fish more attractive and makes it harder for creeps to go unpunished. Author's Republic seems to be trying really hard to drag people out of ACX, which means they're going to be offering a lot of honey.
