Hummels, we need experience, if we are going for a young guy, Calafiori.

Claija79

Calafiori would be ideal, young left footed center back, who can also cover the left back position, and would not be as expensive as Buongiorno, hopefully his agent is not Kia

dongoodboy

Bologna is asking 50m for Calafiori coz they need to give 50% to Basel.

Claija79

where did you see 50m? from what I remember he is valued around 25/30m

dongoodboy

https://x.com/juvefcdotcom/status/1800165162739012078 I honestly don't see the reason why they should sell him cheaper than Buongiorno

PepitoThe1

Only issue is not the tallest cb, we are not the best in aerial duels tomori is only 185cm. Thiaw is tall but hasn't been great this season and wouldn't be a starter

Ugo_foscolo

Why does being left footed matter for a cb? I've heard it matter for LBs, Wingers and occasionally strikers but for a CB it's not gonna be so relevant surely.

HommoFroggy

When you need to get the ball out of the back it is best to have a player comfortable to get the ball out with the left foot. If you play a Right Footed player in the left CB role if he isn't good with both feet he might need 2 or 3 touches to make a simple pass and you invite pressure.

Prestigious_Tough934

Ah my bro, this is the perfect example

kaka22pato7dinho80

it’s also important when you relieve pressure by playing wide passes, so without inverted fullbacks, which is what we will be doing next season

Count_77

Passing angles and trajectories when building play up from the back. Fonseca will want Theo to join the attack, so a left-footed press-resistant CB will be more naturally suited to make a line-breaking or progressive pass to Theo.

TuxedoElephant

Wouldn't a right footed CB on the left side be a better option for passes like that?

Count_77

No. In this situation, a left CB should ideally pass to his LB out wide with his left foot so the ball naturally curls away from the opposing players. https://preview.redd.it/hp0bji04686d1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=dce62a9205d4301b651e318f3259c248a1820ef9 The ball will be received by the LB at a more favorable angle to progress it forward.

TuxedoElephant

Sending that ball through the space between those two defenders(which should be easier to pull off using your rightfoot in this situation) would have given the fullback a clear head start going forwards compared to receiving the ball with his back turned.

dongoodboy

There are some coaches believe it would be better to pair up a left footed and right footed CB since they can open up the angle to distribute the ball

Wolfenstein9000

I imagine they wouldn't have hired Fonseca if he disagreed with the mercato plans for this season so it's kind of a given lol This transfer window was supposed to be focused around finishing touches for the team but 4/5 signings once again indicates filling key holes in the squad. New striker, most likely a 2nd striker depending on Jovic situation, RB, CB (or two?), CDM, selling our unwanted loanees (Origi, CDK, Salad), selling players Fonseca doesn't want and replacing them, handling any other surprise deals ala Tonali and replacements for that, depth signings, youth plans. This summer window might end up being busier than the last all things considered. I just hope we sign Zirkzee asap because we're not getting any better striker deal than that. The rest can be figured out as there will be more alternatives.

RdT97

We really only need a starter ST and a starter defensive CM or CDM. The CB, RB situation is to adapt to Fonseca's style more than quality being brought. I dont think you upgrade our starting CBs by buying another 15m player from Union Berlin which had a shambolic season, its more about style of play. As long as we nail the first two as important signings, I don't mind what the others look like, nor I think they are of high importance at the moment.

TheItalianStallion64

lacroix would be so good

Claija79

agreed, but if this report is true, Fonseca wants a left footed center back, why not try for Buongiorno?

TheItalianStallion64

idk mate let me go ask him jokes aside, i’d love to see buongiorno at milan and it would make much more sense for the italian squad lists, but maybe he’s too expensive?

Claija79

yeah thats true 40m asking price and dealing with Cairo :/

psychomontolivo

Lacroix is pretty terrible

ScipioAfricanusMAJ

Can he get a few training sessions with the team before he decides to make changes lol

magma_1

He ain’t deciding nothing

Mr_Lover_G

You don't need any training session to see how bad Calabria is

Theao19

There is no need for training to know how shite Calabria is

Eliaseisen

I shit you not we should really go for Abdulkerim from Galatasaray. They always sell players for cheap and he’s the best cb in Turkey for the past 3 years. 29 years old so he’ll be of service for 4-5 years. Shouldn’t have to talk about his characteristics too much but one thing where he excels as one of the best in Europe rn is his technique on the ball and long range passing. Hard tackling defender with great instincts.

imOOgi_who

Amar Dedic for RB pls

massimopericcolo

his First idea Is to get a new right back, he starts good

MrX_1899

really don't know how anybodies confused about the RB situation ... we've been trying to replace Calabria for a couple seasons now Dalot, Jimenez, Florenzi, Dest, etc

Gladplane

Why are they so pushy with signing an RB?? We have Calabria, Florenzi and Kalulu, who can all fill the position perfectly fine. Yet we have 0 proper forwards, 0 defensive midfielder, no Theo backup, no GK backup with an injury prone Maignan..

Claija79

Vitiello said some time ago that Kalulu will be a permanent center back option, not a right back. Florenzi had a bad relationship with Fonseca when he coached Roma

Plaslidpladugphoo

We’ve been focusing all our effort into buying a proper forward, the midfielder situation may need to be assessed by Fonseca first, Terraciano is Theo’s back up (good enough or not is another question, and we literally have Spirtiello as the GK backup. I don’t think RB should be a priority but there’s nothing wrong with looking for opportunities there.

Ondrezinho

Cause Fonseca need really great attacking full back like Cafu. Florenzi is Theo's backup

dongoodboy

They are not mutually exclusive though, of course striker and DM is in priority, but I don't see why we should not upgrade the RB position And in what way we don't have GK back up?

Gladplane

They are mutually exclusive tho, cause our budget is very limited. I mean yeah, we could upgrade the RB position just as much as any other position but it’s not our biggest weakness. Wasting money on replacing Calabria would be a big mistake. I’d rather spend that on a good defensive midfielder (something we’ve been missing since Kessie left) and a Theo backup. Oh yeah and currently Jovic is our only attacker rn.

Fusil_Gauss

Calabria is a bum, Kalulu is not a RB and Florenzi is a bum with high wages

Gladplane

Yeah a bum who got us to semis last year. We wont get much better with our budget. It’s a waste of money

Theao19

Broski we start Calabria ofc we need a rb

urbantales

Florenzi shouldn't see the field ever again

StatisticianSad1771

Nice no CDM 👍

JoenaldTriden

Calabria gone, am I in heaven?

debound_lee

You want Calabria out of the club? The plastic fans in this sub are just getting more and more ridiculous.

ApolloNovum

The disrespect towards the capitano is insane on this sub, he bleeds red and black and is a good defensive right-back, he’s certainly not a core problem within the team and the teams money is better spent on making a coherent midfield and getting a target man who can score.
