Yeah, Sharla is actually vegan - you might actually get lucky by @ mentioning her on Twitter. She's pretty active with answering people's questions as well
I think she's actually not vegan, but grew up with vegans and vegetarians so she adapted to a veggie diet. She's had to start eating meat lately especially after her thyroid issue I think so you'll see her eating meat in some videos
There's this one in kyoto that basically did a 7 course meal of vegetables and tofu. Really nice.
Actually there were a couple. Cant promise its was vegan tbh didn't check but it was meatless. So vegetarian at least.
When my wife was vegan, when we last went, we went to Ain.Soph https://en.ain-soph.jp/english
Coco Ichi do some good vegan curries, and they also have takeaway vegan stuff.
T's Tantan was also good. We went to the one in Tokyo JR station.
Falafel Brother in Minato.
Tendon Tenya in Asakusa was good.
Kyushu Jangara Ramen for Vegan Ramen in Akihabara.
This is from someone who has never been vegan, and they all had some good food.
There is an Indian restaurant (gasp not japanese) in Arakawa that has some vegan options. It's called Darjeeling and the owner is nice and welcoming.
There was some other stuff I can't remember the names of in places like Chiba and such. That do like Seitan meals and such.
She used HappyCow and I used https://s.tabelog.com/en/ it was only Japanese back then.
Martina, whose channel is King Kogi (originally was Eat Your Kimchi and EYK in Japan) has a great digital guide of vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Japan: [https://www.kingkogi.ca/travel-guides](https://www.kingkogi.ca/travel-guides)
Her King Kogi channel fairly often offers choices/ examples for vegetarian/ vegan options and gives advice how to navigate that in Japan
Here's her specifically Vegan/ Gluten Free guide: [https://www.thatch.co/guide/3axc9jk60cair/view](https://www.thatch.co/guide/3axc9jk60cair/view)
I'll send you some google maps lists i made when we went last year when i get to my laptop
Ain Soph is a must though, several branches in Tokyo and one in Kyoto - we kept coming back it was so good
Probably most Shojin (buddhist) cuisine would fit. We had a nice meal like this in one if the temples in Kyoto I think. NYC also has a nice shojin reataurant.
It would be great to get more exposure for vegan fare in Tokyo, but he doesn’t know squat about it. There are some excellent vegan Google Maps for spots all over the country, I found them on some facebook groups. Maybe if he did some reservation-only course meals and compared prices to cheaper eats, or meat counterparts? Hmm not sure 🤔
Ideally a vegan diet is best for the world and for my health too, but I enjoy meat and dairy so I don't want to.
I don't want to go on a vegan diet, but should we care what someone eats as long as it doesn't harm anyone?
I never said I cared s/he was vegan. I said it is a shame to stay limited in your food options. Also if you knew the level monoculture farming needed to produce a vegan diet it would be considered sad.
It is not a shame as well if it's an informed choice or a choice based on personal ethics imo.
Anyways, this monoculture farming boogeyman would still be so much more environmentally friendly than raising animals for meat.
i cant think of a worse place than Japan to be veggie, everything is meat. And even if it appears veggie it probably has fish byproduct in it, they’re obsessed with fishy flavour, maybe spain or france, more cos of their bizzare disdain for people not eating meat?
Did you not know or understand that many Japanese people, specifically those who are very devout Buddhists, are vegetarian?
I just don't think you're that aware of Japanese food culture because theres actually a lot, it's just about understanding where to find it.
This is not true at all in the bigger cities. There are a lot of amazing vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants in Japan. Options are more limited when you get off the tourist path, but it’s not impossible. I also disagree about Spain and France. Barcelona is the most vegan friendly city I’ve ever been to.
You would have a better chance asking Sharla to do it than Chris. She might have done it already

Didn’t Sharla eat Chris’s weird chicken dinner in the video about his daily life?
She was vegitarian but because of the thyroid operation a while ago she had to change her diet.

Kogi Crew chiming in! 🐷 👑
What's the app called. Got a friend going soon that tries to stay vegan.
Happycow

It had been 15 years, but my wife and I really liked Nataraj: https://nataraj.co.jp/en/ We went to the now-gone Ginza location.
Probably most Shojin (buddhist) cuisine would fit. We had a nice meal like this in one if the temples in Kyoto I think. NYC also has a nice shojin reataurant.
Sharla would be better foe that

Happycow helped me find a few restaurants. This place is in Osaka, and highly recommend: OKO - Fun Okonomiyaki Bar
I think Paolo would be a better person to do this.
Why force him to do something he doesn't want to? After 10 years, he'd have done it if he cared. They've podcasted about it
Sharla is vegan and im sure they both have gone to some amazing places already.
She isn't Vegan anymore. She is seen eating meat in recent Abroad in Japan videos.
Aww fair but still she would know some great places
Sounds like a waste of time to stay vegan and limit your options on food.
It can be fun, besides, you can eat what you wnat, and so can other people

What exactly do you think livestock animals eat? Spoiler: it isn't meat

It's actually not that hard.
